At this moment Wisconsin is enjoying some great success. The Milwaukee Brewers have made the baseball playoffs, the Wisconsin Badgers are undefeated and ranked as one of the best teams in the nation, and the Green Bay Packers are in first place in their division. It should be a fun fall watching and supporting all of these teams. Drew Chafer (son Cari/Craig Chafer), Jake Thome (son Ryan/Melissa Thome) & Chris Brockman (son Brian/Ann Brockman) are all playing important roles for the Bruce High School football team. The team currently only has one lost and is ranked in the top ten in 8-man football. Chafer is playing both ways on the line, Brockman is the starting quarterback and Thome is a tight end. Good job guys!! The legendary Ben Clements and partner Conner Kopras rallied on the last hole to upset Denny Kopras and Jim Gerber to claim the regular season league championship at Couderay Golf Course. The Kopras/Gerber team placed second. In the league tourney Joe Kinnear & Jamie Stone won the championship with a one-stroke victory over Denny Kopras and Jim Gerber. The annual Hayward Wrestling golf tournament held on Saturday, September 28 was dominated this year by Exeland teams. The team of Tyler Mussehl, Scott

Ring, Denny Kopras and Jim Gerber captured the championship and set a tourney record by shooting five under par. The team of Steve Schoepke, Conner

Kopras, Jamie Stone and Joe Kinnear placed second with a two under par. Congrats to both teams. Area hunting should be good this year. A lot of black bear and nice whitetail bucks in the area. Ernie Yunk recently guided a hunter to a 500 lb.+ black bear. Sorensen Outfitters (Mike Sorensen) has guided a couple of hunters to successful hunts this fall. Conner Kopras shot a dandy 10-point buck with his bow on Sunday, September 29. Al Gerber is really doing a lot of bragging about the 4 inch mouse he recently caught in a trap. Congrats to all of these hunters and trappers.

The purpose of the library is to promote & inspire reading and get stored books circulated into the public. The library is running short of books. If you have any books you would like to share you can leave them at the front door of the Association building. A big thank you to everyone out there who has participated in this great program!!

Our Hearts, Minds & Doors are always OPEN!

The community owes Richard Ghyselinck a big thank you for keeping the intersection at Hwy 40 and Hwy D east Exeland so neat. Richard mows the ditchlines and surrounding area on his own without pay. It makes for a neat looking entrance into Exeland and more importantly it’s a great safety measure for motorists. Thank you Richard!! It definitely has been a very wet summer this year. Seth Zesiger, working for the DNR, has been trapping and removing a lot of trouble bears from the area. Superior Choice Credit Union has announced they will be closing the bank in Exeland effective December 1. Not much of an effort on their part to keep it open. It turns out they weren’t a very good fit for our community. The Exeland Area Association will be forming a group to research and see if they can find a new bank to take over the void that is being left. The First United Methodist Church of Exeland would like to thank everyone who can out to support the Salad Luncheon during the Trout Fest! Thanks to all who attended, provided food and worked at the event!

NATURE TRAIL: The Club would like to invite the public to come out and enjoy walking the nature trail. It is in great shape and there is no charge to use the trail. Come out and enjoy the autumn colors as you take a beautiful and peaceful walk. LAKE SAND: The Club hauled more white sand to the Windfall Lake beach this summer. It’s a job they plan on continuing each summer. It sure makes for one of the best beaches in the area. TRAP SHOOTING: Club members have been shooting trap each Tuesday night. Bud Hover has been the top shooter so far. Chuck Lynk claims he is using illegal shells. HUNTERS BALL: The Club will be holding their annual Hunters Ball on Friday, November 8th. This is a member’s only event. It’s always a fun time and is a great reason why you might want to join the organization!! OMITTED: The Club would like to say thank you to Bev Shimko for her help in handing out Memorial Day poppies at the annual kid’s fishing expo. Her name was omitted in the previous newsletter. Please forgive a bunch of goofy old men for their mistake. OUTSIDE CLUB SIGN: A beautiful new Exeland Rod & Gun Club sign has been hung on the northside of the clubhouse. The sign was created by Cody Rurup of Birchwood. TROUT FEST: This past Labor Day weekend the Club sponsored the 27th Annual Trout Fest. President Al Gerber said, “This Fest was another huge success. It was well attended and is the fund raiser that keeps us in business. It brings great recognition to our community and a lot of money into the local businesses. We were fortunate to have perfect weather again this year and everyone who attended the event walked away with a smile on their face. It was fun. The parade this year was special. We’re happy to bring the entire event to the community each year. Thank you to everyone who participated and attended the Trout Fest. It is always appreciated.” The Trout Fest Queen and her Court have been representing the Exeland Rod & Gun Club by attending all of the local festivals in the area. A big thank you to club member Steve Roehlse for driving the girls to all of these events. Would you like to join the Rod & Gun Club? The annual membership fee is only $20. You can submit payment to: EXELAND ROD & GUN CLUB – PO BOX 92 – EXELAND, WI 54835 or attend the next meeting to be held at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, April 14. If you would like to rent out the Sports Center Pavilion for any type of event you can contact Rod & Gun Club member Robert Deach at 715-943-2087.
