Tidbits From the PHS Time Capsule

Note from Bob Mohl to: Martin, (Marty Lehman)Good to hear from you. I'd thought to wait un-til after the gathering to message you back but there's already lots I can comment on! Here are some numbers: There are about 500 enrolled in the new PHS, with slightly over 2000 students in the city. Tho Portsmouth is the largest system in Scioto County, most of the school popu-larions are only a bit smaller: seven of the county districts have between 1000 and 1750 students. The other three, Clay, Green and New Boston, av-erage about 500 each.

Note from Blaine I was in Portsmouth visiting my mother at the Hill View Retirement Center on 28th Street and learned that Jerry Gillen's (Ormond Beach, FL) mother, Mrs. Roberta E. Gillen died at the age of 86 on June 15, 2006, at Hill View. Also, while I was there I had a nice conversation with Tom Stone's mother, Mrs. Erma Stone. She is getting along well and sends her best regards to the members of the PHS Class of 1955.She says that she enjoys getting the Class of 1955 newsletter and reading about the class.

Housing stock is way down in the downtowndistricts -- you may recall hearing that 107 hous-es were razed to make way for the new PHS. In small ways we're doing what we can: the Habitat house my group fi nished last month is a block from Stanton Avenue Elementary in New Boston, and Wednesday a friend Mark and I will site prep and lay out the footprint for a 1200-sq-ft cottage a block from Glenwood High. Old PHS stands surrounded by contractors' fence. It will probably be in the process of de-struction while you are reading this. (ed)
