We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting learning and literacy throughout the Shenandoah Valley.

We serve adult learners ages 18 and older who are interested in improving their reading, writing, or English speaking skills. Individuals seeking to obtain citizenship in the United States and those who wish to improve their GED scores are also welcome!

Chapter 4: How can I get involved?

There are many opportunities to get involved at Skyline Literacy. Become an English Language Learner, Basic Literacy, Citizenship Preparation, or GED tutor. One can also volunteer in Skyline Literacy’s main office by managing the computer lab, providing administrative assistance, or sponsoring our organization financially!

Hours of Operation: Monday – Friday 9:00 AM- 4:30PM

Basic Literacy

Individuals with a first to fifth grade reading level are provided one on one tutoring to improve their reading skills.

English Language Learner (ELL)

Trained volunteers meet with ELL students in one on one sessions, small group settings, and large group instruction. These classes may be held in the Skyline Literacy office or sites in the Harrisonburg community.

Citizenship Preparation

Citizenship Preparation courses are offered to eligible ELL learners at Skyline Literacy. These classes consists of both small and large group instruction.

Independent Study Program

Language Learners are able to visit the Skyline Literacy computer lab and receive computer based instruction via Rosetta Stone.
