A Letter from the President Summer is in full swing only six more months to go and we have had quite an ambitious agen-

da. Under the leadership of Candy Saucier, the nominating committee which also includes

Jeff Ryan, and Pat Lacour – is reaching out to several members to gauge their interest in fill-

ing our open positions for the 2015 Board of Directors and Committee Chairs. They have had

such a positive response which is encouraging to see such an increase in engagement! Elec-

tions will be held at the August meeting which is right around the corner!

We also have some exciting news on the membership front. It appears that we are approach-

ing the 100 member mark faster than ever. Under Joe Sharp’s leadership, and the help of all

our great members, we currently have 95 members. This is exciting for HR, Central Louisiana

and our chapter as a whole. The more members, the more connections we are able to make

with each other.

We are thankful to our meeting sponsors. APS Payroll, Gilsbar Health and Benefits Manage-

ment, Spherion Staffing, and Louisiana PHO. We still have some great sponsorship opportuni-

ties left for 2014; September and November meetings. Meeting sponsorships are only $250

per meeting.

The annual seminar is approaching soon. Make sure you save the date, Wednesday, October

15th. Traci O’Brien is putting together a great program. Our keynote speaker will be Todd

Hunt, speaking on “Communication Bleeps and Blunders in Business” – funny, true examples

of how we miscommunicate with customers, candidates and coworkers, and how we can im-

prove. We are hoping you will invite managers, supervisors and other employees from your

companies as this year’s seminar will appeal to HR and non-HR alike.

We need your help to contact vendors and potential sponsors. Contact anyone you do business with regularly and let them know they

have an opportunity to reach 30 different organizations and almost a 100 HR professionals in the Central Louisiana area. All spon-

sors will receive complementary admission to the seminar for two, meals included. Only one Platinum Sponsorship is available at

$1,500 and will include two table sized booth, top logo billing, two advertising slots for our monthly newsletter, and a speaking spot

during the conference opening, and much, much more! Two Gold Sponsorships will be available at $1,000 each and will include one

table sized booth, 2nd level logo billing, and two advertising slots for our monthly newsletter. Two Silver Sponsorships will be availa-

ble at $500 each and will include one table sized booth and 3rd level logo billing.

Our July meeting will be sponsored by Spherion Staffing, held at the Pineville Country Inn and Suites. Lynn Billing will be speaking on

“Emerging Strategies for the Evolving Workforce”. August meeting will be sponsored by Louisiana PHO, and held at the Rapides

Foundation, where our very own Wesley Watkins will be discussing “Implementation of Practices to Help Reduce Costs of Medical

Benefits”.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our next meeting.

Julie Ann Huffman Bonial

About Julie:

From Deville, LA but has been living in Pineville since

1994.

Married to Chris Bonial (no, not the former professional

football player) for 23 years!

2 wonderful sons—Tyler (20), Sophomore at LSU and

Hunter (18), will be a senior next year at Pineville High

School

1 dog—Jessie (black lab), 4 cats—Skeeter, Basil, Lilly and

Bear, 1 horse—Dixie (my stress reliever)

Education:

Graduate of Buckeye High School—1987

B.A. from Louisiana Tech in Child, Life and Family Studies—1991

Things About Me:

I’m very task oriented and efficient when it comes to work. I enjoy working on projects and interacting with my

fellow co-workers.

My hobbies are horseback riding (extreme trail riding), reading, doing yard work, tailgating and going to LSU foot-

ball games with my boys.

When I get to watch TV, I love Grimm and True Blood (I know, I’m a little weird)

If I could vacation anywhere in the world it would be Ireland. I want to go horseback riding in Ireland someday.

My favorite subject in school was Ag Shop (I’m a country girl).

The thing I miss most about being a kid is the innocence of everything and not having a care in the world.

My favorite restaurant is PeiWei (no, we don’t have one here). I like all kinds of food, especially BBQ.

“Live, Learn, Love and Laugh” would be the name of the autobiography about my life. My family faced many hard-

ships when I was growing up. My childhood was not easy, but it taught me many lessons. As difficult as it was, I

would not change a thing...it made me the person I am today. I owe a lot to my husband, who has been by my side

since 1986.

My most prized possession is Dixie (she is a Tennessee Walker) - I rescued her 4 years ago. She and 5 other

horses had been abandoned and left to starve. She is a beautiful black and white paint with blue eyes. She brings

me great joy!

Employment:

AFCO Industries, Inc.—Director of Human Resources (3/2013 – Present) I’ve been here for one year and I’m new

to the manufacturing environment. I’m learning as I go and enjoying every moment! AFCO is 100% employee

owned and has a family-like atmosphere. From day one, everyone has made me feel welcome and right at home.

CHRISTUS Provider Network—Human Resources Manager (2/1999—2/2013)

“I believe that our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become”.

Board Member Spotlight

Jeffrey James Ryan

About Jeff:

Born in Lake Charles, but has lived in Alexan-

dria since I was in the 4th Grade.

My wife, Dory, and I have been married for 16

wonderful years!

3 Kids-Hunter (15), Baily (14), and Jackson

(11).

Education:

Graduate of Bolton High School—1989

B.S. in Business Administration from

Mississippi College—1993

Things About Me:

According to my family, the only skill I have is

cooking. They won’t give me credit for

anything else.

I enjoy working out. I regularly go to the gym at 5:30 in the morning. No better way to start your

day!

I love to coach my kids in sports. I have also been a referee for high school football since 1999.

My favorite subjects in school were History and Math.

The thing I miss most about being a kid is summer vacation. I get really irritated when I leave for

work in the mornings and everyone else is still asleep!

I LOVE Mexican food!

I have often joked at work that I am going to write a book about all the stories I’ve been told by

employees over the years. I haven’t thought of a good title for it yet but I have enough material

to fill up several hundred pages.

Employment History:

I am the Manager of Employee Relations & Employment at Cleco. I’ve been here since Septem-

ber, 1998. I started in a temporary position in our Generation group and moved to HR in June,

1999. In 2005, I became a HR Rep and got into the employee relations part of our group. I was

promoted to Manager in 2012.

Before Cleco, I was a Nursing Home Administrator for 5 years.
