We are the home that provides a normal family environment for abandoned, neglected, and orphaned children. Like any other children, they live with brothers and sisters in a house where they receive love and care from a mother and other members of the SOS family, until such a time that the children become fully independent.

Hermann Gmeiner founded the first SOS Children’s Village in Imst, Austria in 1949. He was a child welfare worker and he saw how children suffered and were left orphaned as a result of World War II.

After almost 70 years, we have become the number one, trusted, global NGO dedicated to providing a loving home for orphaned, abandoned, and neglected children. We are locat-ed in 135 countries and territories. Our 571 children’s villages are home to 84,500 children and young adults. We also provide support to 90,600 vulnerable families in the communities.

Where SOS Families live in the Philippines

On May 1967, the first SOS Children’s Village in the Philippines was founded in Lipa, Batangas. It started with just 3 family houses where 24 children lived.

After 50 years, there are now 8 children’s villages throughout the country with a total of 96 family houses which are home to 1,200 children and young adults.

In the communities, we give support to vulnerable families to prevent breakup that often leads to child neglect or abandonment. 6,000 children and young adults in the communi-ties participate in our programs.
