A Message from the Ohio PTA President

    Founders

    Day is February 17 2016

    Dear PTA Leader:

Ohio PTA and National PTA would like you to join in the celebration of PTA FoundersDay on February 17,2015, as we honor our PTA founders and PTA leaders.

The FoundersDay celebration was created in 1910 by Mrs. David O. Mears, a charter member of the NationalCongress of Mothers founded by Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst in Washington, DC,February 17, 1897. This day was created to honor our National PTA founders, Alice McClellan Birney andPhoebe Apperson Hearst, and also honors Selena Sloan Butler, who, in 1926, founded the National Congress ofColored Parents and Teachers. The Founders Day observance has continued through the change of theorganizationsname in 1925 to the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, and the uniting in 1970 with theNational Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers.

FoundersDay is a reminder of the substantial role that PTA has played locally, regionally, and nationally in

supporting parent involvement and working on behalf of all children and families. It is a time to reflect and takepride in our many accomplishments, and to renew our commitment to be:

A powerful voice for all children,

A relevant resource for families and communities, and A strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child.

Our PTA's founders had a simple ideato improve the lives and futures of all of our children. As much as otherconditions in America may have changed, that idea has not. PTAs keep it alive. A booklet to help you plan ison the Ohio PTA website under PTA Resources.

Financial support from friends like you enables the Ohio PTA to develop and deliver much needed newresources and training to parents as they grow to be advocates for all children and influence policy andlegislation affecting children and families. Contributions are used to strengthen and extend the work of the PTAthrough field service, conferences and materials. Your tax deductible gift whether $25, $50, $100 or more will help fund the programs and services that ultimately result in giving children a better chance to succeed.

Please consider a gift of financial support. Help us show families across Ohio that PTA is a vital resource forparents, building family-school partnerships. Thank you in advance for your contribution. You may send acheck or go towww.ohiopta.organd use the donate button.

    Sincerely,

    Sheila RaglandPresident 2015-2017
