The Director’s Forum: Tips for Trips— July 2021 It was great seeing many old friends and making some new ones at the BSC picnic on June 26th. This was our first in-person function in a long time and the first opportunity members could sign up for a BSC trip(s). All of the trips did extremely well with robust participation. With all the pent up demand to get back on the slopes I would not wait long to
make your decision and get your deposit in. Please contact the Trip leader for more information and availability. Hope to see you our BSC Happy Hours this Summer, Dave Karczmarek, BSC Trips Director

Annual BSC Picnic in Oregon Ridge Park BSC members enjoyed mostly clear skies at Oregon Ridge Park on Saturday, June 26. There was plenty of food and drink under the park pavilion as BSC chefs Mike Jones, Earl Deisroth, Jeff Elligson, and Norma Rojas grilled hot dogs and hamburgers. Many thanks to them for volunteering their culinary skills.
The picnic was attended by approximately one hundred members, who also had the first opportunity to sign up for the 2022 ski trips. It was also possible to send in sign-up requests via another friend in the Club. Trip Leaders set up tables under the pavillion as they accepted deposits and sign-up sheets. At the end of the picnic, most ski trips still had spaces available, so Trip Leaders can be contacted throughout the summer to confirm availability.
Members chat, eat, drink and enjoy the summer weather at the Arts and Science Pavilion
Members Bob Little (l) and Jeff Elligson (r) discuss the best way to cut a watermelon.

Corn Hole was a popular activity, but mostly the picnic was a chance to connect with friends and make plans for next year. Many “Thanks” to all of the members, their spouses and relatives who volunteered to help make the picnic a success. “Special Thanks” to chair Christopher Pukalski and Mark Jones for planning and coordinating another great event.

BSC Trips Cancellation Policy
1.The Club does not intend to unduly penalize a trip participant who cancels from a BSC trip. However, other trip participants should not have to incur additional costs due to your cancellation.
2.Deposits and payments made toward the trip reservations being cancelled will be held until such time as a deter-mination can be made that the Club or trip participants will not incur additional expense due to non-recoverable costs.
3.Non-recoverable costs are defined as those that are associated with the trip that due to contractual obligations cannot be recovered when the individual cancels his/her trip. Non-recoverable also include those costs associ-ated with replacing a person or persons on a trip (i.e., name change charges on airline tickets, etc.) Refunds, if any, will be made based on the non-recoverable involved plus a cancellation fee. Cancellation costs will not exceed the cost of the trip. Club cancellation fee will be dropped if non-recoverable costs exceed 50% of the trip cost.
4.Replacement of a trip participant by a trip participant is strictly prohibited. Only the Trip Leader or Assistant Trip Leader can replace a trip participant who is unable to go on the trip. The canceling trip participant may suggest a replacement candidate to the trip leader or assistant trip leader, however the canceling trip participant is re-sponsible for the cancellation fee (if applicable) and any non-recoverable costs.
5.Be sure to know the cancellation dates in relation to the trip you select so that you can avoid monetary losses. The following cancellation policy in is effect in relation to BSC trips.
Multi-Day Bus, Carpool or Flight trips: NR=Non-recoverable costs
•More than 125 days before departure $0 + NR
•More than 110 days before departure $10 or NR (whichever is greater)
•More than 80 days before departure $25 or NR (whichever is greater)
•80 days or less before departure $35 or NR (whichever is greater)
Unexpected Winner
Perhaps the most preposterous, spellbinding moment in the 2018 Winter Olympics was when the Czech Republic’s world champion snowboarder Ester Ledecka won an event in a completely different sport: skiing! And she took the first-place gold medal even though she had the unenviable position of skiing 26th—a feat believed to be basically impossible. Amazingly, Ledecka qualified to race the women’s super-G—an event that combines downhill skiing with a slalom course. To make the feat even more surprising to reporters, she was rumored to be allegedly racing on skis borrowed from Mikaela Shiffrin (both racers were sponsored by Atomic).
After she won by .01 of a second, she was just as shocked as the media and other contestants who had assumed the winner would be one of the top skiers. Ledecka became the first ever female athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in two different disciplines during the same Winter Olympics. Our Daily Bread April 8, 2019

The Baltimore Ski Club offers our deepest sympathy to

Sandra Kay Harris 65 of Sparrows Point and Dundalk passed from this life to be with the Lord on 4/25/21, from Covid. Beloved daughter of Frank B Harris and the late Barbara R Harris. Dearly loved sister of Hope Lynn Harris, Nancy L Harris & Frank D Harris (Fatima). Predeceased by dear step mother Jacquelyn Harris.
She graduated from Dundalk Sr High class of 1974, AA Degree at CCBC Dundalk 1988, and BS Degree in Acctg. from University of Baltimore 1991. She was employed as an Accountant II, Balto City Fire & Police Em-ployees' Retirement Sys. She will be sorely missed by her many relatives & friends. There is a huge hole in all our hearts. May God Bless Her Soul & Keep Her in His Care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her favorite charities: Operation Smile, Wounded Warriors, Alzheimer's Assoc, Alley Cat Allies, Day's End Farm Horse Rescue.
