RESEARCH
With the rise of fake news, what fact checking strategies are most appropriate for people when they consume news on social media?
5 Expert interviews
6 Observations of news behavior on social media
4 Task Analyses/Think Aloud of fact checking
INSIGHTS
Fact checking news on social media is hard and rarely done.
People lack the skills to critically engage with content they read on social media.
They are vulnerable to fake news’ emotional manipulation through bias confirmation.
They base their trust in news on emotional reactions.
IDEATION
We determined 3 design opportunity areas:
• Exposure to bias
• Slow down news consumption
• News literacy education
Qübe takes all three opportunity areas and combines them into one cohesive system.
