Providing Christian vacations for 138 years

and to retreat from the stresses of work and everyday life, the Home, and tranquil Cape May, are not exempt from all unpleasantness. This summer, during Manager’s Week, which takes place the week before the Home opens to guests, family members were awakened in the night to observe a group of young men stealing the sign from the front of the building. This sign, the centerpiece of many family photos through the years, was now gone.

Managers and their family members searched the area around the Home for any sign of the namesake, hoping a prankster might have abandoned it nearby. Instead, they found other businesses that were also missing signs! It was clear that someone or some group was collecting signs from local businesses.

Managers quickly built a new sign with the help of family. Back row, from left to right, managers Ruth Curtin and Hester Boyer. Front row, left to right, Pete Curtin, Kelly Curtin, and Hannah Iannotti.

The story of the theft was covered by the Cape May Star and Wave.

Not to be discouraged, managers and sisters, Ruth Curtin and Hester Boyer, with the help of family members, quickly created a new sign for the Home. Made of wood and now proclaiming Seaside Home as the Christian retreat it has been for 138 years and showing the various names of the Lord, the new sign hangs proudly on front of Seaside Home.

“We saw people stopping to read the names of the Lord and we are thrilled that maybe they were blessed without even knowing why,” says Hester Boyer. “We also saw some of them taking pictures with their phones as they walked by. Prayerfully it will be a blessing to many.”

It is not known if the culprits were ever caught, but their thievery and bad behavior are clearly no match for the love and faith upon which Seaside Home stands.

Dear Guests,Summer may be a few months away yet, but the Seaside

Home Board of Managers has been working year round to ensure that your stay with us is a great one. And it gives me great pleasure to be serving as the board president once again this year.

Our 2016 season was an exciting one with the stealing of our sign, and it was a bit of a reality check for us, to be reminded that wherever we go to vacation, trouble can be present. That is why we work so hard to make Seaside Home a haven for our guests, a beacon in the night. That is why we have rules, and curfews, and why we require modesty in dress and kindness to all who dwell with us; that’s why we search for the right chaplains to lead our devotions, and require our guests to attend them. We want to provide you with a Christian retreat, a respite from the daily trials and tribulations. Within the walls of our Home, we hope to protect all of us from the challenges that can be found outside. And, if even for a week, provide a place where we can come together, family-style, as a Christian family, to share, worship and enjoy.

I’m looking forward to seeing all of you this summer.

In Christian Love,

Barbara Boyer, President
