    January 16-17, 2021

    “2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time”

Opening Hymn: “Here I Am Lord”

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard My people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin, My hand will save. I, Who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear My light to them? Whom shall I send?

(refrain) Here I am, Lord, Is it I, Lord? I have heard You calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if You lead me. I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne My people’s pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak My Word to them. Whom shall I send?

Text: Based on Isaiah 6; Schutte, b.1947 Music: Dan Schutte, b.1947 © 1981, OCP Publications Gloria (Spoken)

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.

Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right

hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen

Responsorial Hymn Response: “Here Am I Lord, I Come to do Your Will”

    Gospel Acclamation: “Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia”

    Homily

    Creed (Spoken)

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the

Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

    Offertory (Instrumental) Communion (Cantor Solo)

Closing hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King”

All creatures of our God and King, Lift up your voice and let us sing, Alleluia! Alleluia! Bright burning sun with golden beam, Pale silver moon with softer gleam, O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Great rushing winds that are so strong, White clouds above that sail along, O praise Him! Alleluia! Fair rising morn, in praise rejoice, O stars of evening, find a voice, O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Text: St. Francis of Assisi, 1182-1226; Laudato sia Deo mio signore; tr. By William H. Draper, 1855-1933, alt. Tune: LASST UNS ERFREUEN, LM WITH Alleluias; Geistliche Kirchengesange, Cologne, 1623

  • READINGS & REFLECTIONS REFLECTION: SPEAK, LORD, WE ARE LISTENING In today’s first reading God keeps calling out in the night to a sleeping boy. Neither the boy, Samuel, nor his teacher, Eli, under-stands who is calling. But God’s persistence convinces them. Samuel is then ready—not ready yet to do anything, but ready to lis-ten. “Speak, for your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10). In the Gospel Jesus is out teaching. Various people notice him and begin to gather around. They soon become disciples and, like the young Samuel, are ready—not ready yet to do anything, but ready to listen. “Speak,” they say, “we are listening.”

God’s voice is always with us, awake or asleep. It swirls around us like fog on a waterfront, enveloping us, gently urging us to wake up, to listen. Awareness of the voice comes first; then willingness to listen; then, in time, the decision to act, to live according to God’s word. Let’s ask today for the ability to keep our ears open so we don’t miss God’s voice. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

PARISH MISSION CONTINUES ON FACEBOOK! “The Triumph: A Parish Mission,” which had been sched-uled for Nov. 15-18 at St. Bruno’s Parish, Greensburg, had to be cancelled due to concerns associated with the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, the program that was to be presented by Father David Gunter is available on the Facebook page of Immaculate Conception Church, Lonsdale, MN. Gunter is a member of the Congregation of the Marians for the Immaculate Conception from Stockbridge, MA.

2021 VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON MEN’S CONFERENCES The Diocese of Greensburg men’s conference, THE WELL, has been expanded to two events in 2021. March 20, a virtual seminar, scheduled for 9-11:30AM is free to anyone who wishes to attend and will be available on the Diocese of Greensburg website and Face-book page. The theme of the event is “Jesus is Knocking, Open the Door! “ Registration can be found at www.dioceseofgreensburg.org/THEWELL.

Then an in-person Men’s Conference IS on Sept. 25. Men who regis-tered for the 2020 conference and want to remain registered for the in-person 2021 conference do not need to take any action; they are automatically registered for both the virtual seminar and the in-person conference. New registrants are encouraged to email www.dioceseofgreensburg.org/THEWELL for more information.

With these two events we can help take care of the spiritual health of men, which is also of the utmost importance.”

SICK PARISHIONERS As we try to shorten Masses, names of our ill parishioners have been omitted from the Intercessions while referring to them in general. Since we should know who we are praying for this list was compiled: Antoinette Myers, Alex Gonga, Betty Delynko, Bonnie Wilhelm, Patricia Tantlinger, Ralph Tantlinger, Glenn Johnson III, Barb Antoniak, Teresa Bringe, Richard Ruman, Beverly Ficco, Paul Neiderhiser, Nancy Dlusky, Robert Craig, Carol Hihath, Rose Fragapane, Theresa Hanley, Mary Lou Zepek.

These are the folks we are praying for as we respond to the General Intercessions, praying for our sick. The list is never all inclusive. If you, or a loved one wants their name added to the list, please call the office and speak to Jim.

VIRTUAL COUNSELING AT CATHOLIC CHARITIES Social distancing can take a toll. So can waiting in line to get into a grocery or hardware store. It’s not unusual to feel angry, or frustrated, or confused. For some people, the pandemic restrictions can magnify feelings of anxiety, depression, interpersonal con-flict, grief and a wide variety of other issues. Catholic Charities provides virtual counseling to help address those issues and more. Taking care of your own emotional well-being is very important to you and the people you love. You don’t need to face these feelings alone. Call Catholic Charities at 724-837-1840 or email [email protected].

PARISH UPDATE January 2021… We’re all starting to look out our windows and wonder when this will all be over and when it will be safe to return to Mass and meetings at the Church. Only you can say when you’re ready but, know that we are doing our best to keep a safe clean environment. Bob sanitizes church and the office com-plex at least once each day, depending on how it has been used the previous day. Masks and hand sanitizer are available as you come through the door. Parishioners, Priests, and Staff have been very good about wearing masks and social distancing in the pews.

Something else you may not have noticed is that the Sacrament of Reconciliation is now offered on Tuesdays at 1:00PM in the Sullivan Room. Both face to face and screened opportunities are available. Father will be available from 1PM until the penitents dwindle out. So in most cases he is gone by 2PM.

Meetings have not restarted yet. Home visits to the sick and homebound have not resumed. Baptisms are all done after weekend Masses. Funerals are limited ac-cording to current Local Covid Guidelines. You may want to call in about that when it is needed. The Mass schedule is as follows:

    Saturday 4:30PM; Sunday 9:00AM, Monday-Wednesday-Friday 8:00AM.

For weekend Masses overflow seating is available in the Parish Hall where mass is live streamed to the Hall, allowing more people to attend here.

We’re ready when you’re ready. When you come please follow the rule of 3 W’s… Wear a Mask… Wash (sanitize) your hands... Watch your distance… 6 feet between families. In the meantime, your prayerful and financial support are appreciated. It takes both to keep the church go-ing. Thank you for all that you do from home or at Saint Paul.

PRO-LIFE PRAYER & MASS WITH DCCW JANUARY 29 The Greensburg Diocesan Council of Catholic Women invite all who are unable to attend the March for Life in Washington D.C. to pray with them Jan. 29 at Christ Our Shepherd Center, Greensburg, The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the Rosary for priests. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop-elect Larry J. Kulick at noon. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is scheduled at the conclusion of Mass until closing prayer and Benediction at 4 p.m. No reservations are needed and you may attend at any time during the day. For more information, call Millie at 724-537-2064. Editor’s note: Sadly, this year Knights of Columbus will not be spon-soring a bus to attend the March for Life on January 29, 2021. The logistics of finances & Covid 19 made it impossible to assure passen-ger safety. Then being in the March where social distancing and masks could not be guaranteed only made the risk greater. While sad that we cannot travel together the March for Life is still sched-uled and anyone wanting to make the trip could do so. At this time the pre-March events are scheduled and you can learn about them at national-march-for-life online. In addition to in-person the events & March they will be virtual as well. Google “national March for Life” and all the details are there. Meantime, the diocesan event above is also a substitute for attending the March in person. We have choices this year, make the one that is best for your circum-stances.

DOUGHNUT SALE AT VISITATION PARISH Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Mt. Pleas-ant, will have a take-out doughnut sale from 2-4 p.m. on Feb. 1 and 8 in the community center. Doughnuts will be made on those days. Pre-orders must be placed by Jan. 26 for either prune, apricot or raspberry-filled doughnuts. The doughnuts will be pre-packaged for quick pick up in the community center. Cost of the doughnuts is $1.50 each. All CDC guidelines in regard to COVID-19 will be followed, including the safe prepara-tion of the doughnuts.
