On April 22nd at Tri-

County HC, in Groton,

will be hosting an appreciation doubles tournament for

Dave “Eric” Conrad. Eric is a long time member of Tri-

County and this tournament is to honor him for what he con-

tributes to the game of horseshoes. Details are on page 6.

Please remember that when you send in your membership

application, if you want to use your nickname instead of

your birth name you must let Frank know it is a change. Just

highlight it or place a short note inside.

A Pitch from the Editor

As incoming president my thoughts are

about why this games membership numbers keep falling and why as one sin-

gle person can help change this trend by promoting the sanctioned singles

game to your non-sanctioned pitching friend. If you play in a bar league or

attend local doubles tournaments this is where you will find the best pro-

spects for new members. It is not easy trying to convince a doubles player to

try singles but some of the better players in that group would be good pro-

spects, seek them out and inform them about sanctioned singles and encour-

age them to try it. If each one of us could just sign up 1 new member each

year we could reverse the decline quickly.

Update on Elmira courts is that city crews tore up and removed the old tennis

court surface and work on the new 20 courts will begin in the spring. We are

still in the process of raising money for this facility, if anyone would like to

donate they can go online to community foundation of ChemungCo.com., go

to McKinnon Park horseshoe pitching facility and make that donation.

bership…...see page 8 for the

load ringer percentages you can also update names be

sure you have the current updated version of the HS Master

Program as there has been some improvements to the pro-

gram. This makes the job a lot easier for our secretary to

get tournaments uploaded more quickly. If tournament di-

rectors have any questions please contact me and I can

help you through the process.

I say this in just about every Mud in February. If you do not

send in your membership dues for the year “YOU WILL

NOT RECEIVE A MAY MUD.” I receive calls all the time

stating you didn’t get my Mud, the Mud is sent when you

RENEW your membership each year. So don’t procrasti-

Tri-County Horseshoe Club are now on Facebook. Dave Scott from Endicott set up

the page. Facebook is a great form of social media to see what is going on around

us. I feel any leagues or clubs should start a Facebook page and update it as often

as you can.

By sharing the page or comments gets the word out to the friends of friends who

might like to play horseshoes. Leagues are where it starts then maybe a doubles

tournament and in Tri County’s case a quarter tournament. If you have not participated in a quarter

tournament, you are in for a treat. You never know what tournament director Chuck Reigles is going to

bring to the table. But I will tell you this we have a great time.

These are baby steps to maybe recruiting and turning more players into pitchers. So please go and

request friendships with these horseshoe sites there are many of them here in NY there is New York

Horseshoes, Floyd, South New Berlin, NHPA, Horseshoe Pro Tour just to name a few. On Facebook you

can search the word horseshoes to see such clubs.
