We have been challenged, throughout this year, to bring a special offering, over and above our usual monetary gifts, as a way to prepare our hearts for Communion. This November 1st, as you prepare your hearts for the Lord’s Supper, consider bringing some non-perishable food items that we can, in turn, offer to the Fredericksburg Community. The students of the University of Mary Washington will be receiving these items that you bring, and will be distributing them to the community in need. Thank you!

Every Christmas, the Special Friends Bible Study Class has a birthday for Jesus. At the party, we like to give each Special Friend a small Christmas gift.

This year, like years past, we are asking Bible Study classes or individuals to purchase $25 gift cards from Wal-Mart to be given as gifts. Please give gift cards to Terri Caldwell, Marian Wiltshire, or Gail Hylton by November 29th. If you have questions, please call Terri at 372-4115.

The Sanctuary Choir is beginning preparations for this year’s Christmas program. Our own Kevin Thomson has composed the music for this musical worship experience. Please consider joining the Sanctuary Choir in this presentation. Rehearsals are Wednesday nights beginning at 7:15pm. From now until Christmas, we will be rehearsing the Christmas music first in our rehearsal, so that those who wish to join us can participate, but will not have to stay for the entire rehearsal. We hope to see you on Wednesday!

Biblical Study -- In the six weeks leading up to Christmas, we will study selected psalms on Wednesday nights. The Book of Psalms presents many, if not all of the themes of the Old Testament. It was quoted by Jesus and used by the early church to enhance worship. In the New Testament we find many direct quotes, plus images and ideas, contained in the psalms. One of our goals will be to see what the early church saw in these passages, rather than just our own interpretations. We will study psalms that verify, illustrate, and enhance the meaning of the gospels. What better way to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of the Christ Child? Please bring your Bible and plan to be led in study by Jane Sthreshley in the classroom in Ferrell Hall! Social Justice – When Helping Hurts

Social justice in our modern world can seem so untouchable, but would you believe that many answers exist within the construct of broken relationships? Through reconciliation of relationship with God, self, others and the rest of creation we can address injustice, alleviate poverty and make it possible for ALL people to experience the fullness of life that God intended. Come explore a new framework for living out God’s call to care for the least, lost, lonely and left out, as Meghann Cotter leads us in discussion based on the book “When Helping Hurts,” by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert. This group will meet in C-209. Raising Healthy Children - Parent Discussion Group

All parents are welcome to join us for learning and discussion based on what it might look like to raise healthy children. We will discuss body image, spiritual formation, making and maintaining healthy relationships, as well as other topics that will broaden our ideas about what healthy looks like. Our hope is that this group will challenge and encourage all parents to think about their role as a parent while connecting with other adults who are also striving to raise healthy children. We encourage parents with children of all ages to participate so there is diverse conversation and learning from one another. This group will meet for six weeks in the college room (C203) and will be lead by Heather Murphy. Creating a Nativity Advent Banner for Families with Children – For the first three weeks of Session 2, you may choose to create a felt wall hanging onto which felt angels, camels, sheep, shepherds, the holy family members and many more items may be added daily! Even if you do not have small children living in your home, if you like to craft, I am sure there are families with children who would love to be the recipient of your creation! This group will meet in C-210 and be led by Marla Tignor.

Creating a Shadow Box Nativity – Cutting out images of individuals found at the nativity of our Lord, and placing them in a floating frame is a wonderful way to spend the first two Wednesday evenings of December! As you create this framed art, you are invited to consider the birth of Jesus! You may create this for your own home, or it would make a lovely gift so share. This group will meet in C-210 and be led by Marla Tignor. The Daniel Plan – Getting healthy is a choice, and following The Daniel Plan will move you toward living the kind of lifestyle God intends for you to live. Being healthy will impact every area of your life, including your walk with God. The Bible teaches that the starting point for change is dedicating your body to God. Come join a small group discussion on Faith, Food, Fitness, Focus, and Friends. The Daniel Plan is a lifestyle change that will leave you feeling better and more energetic than you have felt in years. Each session’s focus will be directly related to scripture, and you will gain support from the group as we discuss each week. Each session includes a video along with discussion and areas to apply what you have learned during the upcoming week. This is not a diet or exercise plan, but a plan to live life the way God intended you to! This group will meet in C-212 and will be led by Pam Hicks.
