“We’re Not Your Grandma’s United Way,” the theme for the 2015-16 Campaign embraces all that we are and

all that we have become at Your United Way. Yes, we are built on a solid foundation…great principles, great

mission, and a great stable foundation on which we have built Your United Way. People say they know us - but we’ve changed over the years. Traditionally, we have been really great fundrais-

ers in the workplace and a really great allocator of those funds for the community.

We are built on a strong foundation…and the strong, insightful men and women

who worked long and arduously to set the structure that has brought us into

the future. All that you know and trust us to do - raising money and

supporting community programs – we still do!

But now, additionally - we are a community partner and community problem-

solver; getting deep into the situations faced by all in the Greater Hazleton

area. We are more focused and strategic and we fight for the health, education and

financial stability of every person in our community. We work hard at connecting people and solutions.

We know that good health is directly linked to a successful life.

We know that by improving education for all children, we’re setting them on the path to high school graduation

and college success. We know that those children will go on to hold skilled

jobs and be financially equipped to support their families. Programs like

Dolly Parton Imagination Library – that provides books – one new book each

month for the first five years of their lives, incites excitement for reading and

begins a path for a strong future.

We know financial stability results in stronger communities where everyone

has more opportunities to succeed.

Most importantly, we realize that when we improve education, financial

stability and health at a community level, we all benefit. This was the vision of those who worked so diligently

to create the Welfare Council in 1928…and this is how we redefine and build toward a strong community in the

future.

The year has been a challenge including the great office flood during the Community Christmas Dinner rush;

the complete shut down of our telephone system during allocations...we continue to prove our resilience and

fortitude.

We have been community connectors and problem solvers since your Grandma's time, and we're still here, with

innovative solutions to our community's problems - we think Grandma would be proud!
