Notices

The church diary (including livestream & Zoom joining instructions)

Prayers and readings for Sunday morning services on the 15th, 22nd, 29th Aug & 5th Sept.

One of the nice things about summer is that we often get visitors attending church … and I encourage you to

try to attend church if you are going away. Our usual practice in the summer is to have a combined newsletter

and this is one thing that is the same this year! Whether you are staying at home or getting away, I wish you

every blessing in Christ, and thank all who will be supporting our services over the coming weeks.

Suffolk Churches Ride & Stride Takes place this year on Saturday 11th September between 9am -5pm. Sponsor forms are available from 8 St Catherine's Road. We also need volunteers at both Holy Trinity and St Catherine's on the day to sign people in. It would be even better if we had more people volunteer to cycle or walk – half the money raised goes to our churches. Please phone Carolyn 01787 370686 if you could help at either for an hour. Half of the money raised by anyone walking or cycling from Long Melford comes back to Holy Trinity and St Catherine's. We didn't provide snacks last year, but I am happy to provide cold drinks and disposable cups. Carolyn

Melford Music – Wed 18th & Wed 25th August …will feature Sam Plackett & Les Simons (Jazz & Guitars) on the 18th August and on the 25th join us at Holy Trinity for Mary Blanchard (flute), Gell Gerrard (oboe) and Therese Miller (piano).

There will be no refreshments available on site but please feel free to bring your own. There is no charge for this event but there will be a retiring collection.

Service DVD’s This is advance warning that due to holidays, unfortunately there will be no DVD’s for the Sundays of the

22nd and 29th August. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

The Church Survived! We had a really good session last Sunday afternoon with water rockets

(outside!) and loads of other water themed activities linking to the

many water-based stories in the Bible. Many thanks to the helpers

who changed arrangements at the last minute, and well done to all

who attended (25 in total which is excellent, all considered) who

participated so well.

The next Messy Church is planned for October 24th at 4.00pm.

Confirmation / Enquirers In autumn we will be holding a course for all wanting to learn more about the Christian Faith, or indeed any

who want to get baptised or confirmed. It will be on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm starting on the 6th

October. If you would like to find out more please contact the Rector Matthew Lawson on 01787 310 845 or

[email protected].

The Book Group This will be meeting at Mansel Hall, Little St Mary’s, at 6pm on:

Thursday 19th August to consider The Choice by Edith Eger,

Thursday 16th September to consider The End of the World is Flat by Simon Edge.

All are welcome; the meeting is a good opportunity to meet people, have a glass and enjoy the books. Get

in touch with Cheryl (07943 811030) or Sally (07808 338751) with any queries.

Laughter! When I popped into the vestry at Holy Trinity to sort out

something or other, I was struck by the sound of laughter as I

approached. Three members of the HT sacristan team were

working away at polishing, but clearly really enjoying

themselves. If you would like to get involved in something

please do speak to the Rector, Warden, or administrator as

there are plenty of opportunities for both laughter and work!

Launchpad - Camping Weekend 10th – 12th September Normally in summer there are a variety of Christian Festivals e.g. Spring Harvest, Greenbelt, New Wine, Soul

Survivor, and so on; these are particularly helpful for families due to the children’s groups, however all are

very welcome. Living, praying (and camping!) together deepens relationships between all involved.

Though not quite the same scale, Lightwave Suffolk, headed by Archdeacon Sally Gaze, will be hosting

‘Launchpad’ - a weekend away to encounter God afresh. This will take place at the Vauxhall Christian Trust,

CO7 6QQ (between Ipswich and Colchester). The weekend will include the commissioning (or

recommissioning) of our Lightwave leaders by Bishop Mike on Saturday evening.

You can come for one day (no camping); under 5’s are free.

Food is provided. Some basic chalets are also available.

There is a swimming pool.

Please visit: here to book and/or email queries

to [email protected].

We are hoping to take a group from the Chadbrook Benefice –

please contact Vicky if you are planning to attend so we can camp

together ([email protected]).

August to November 2021 Rota The provisional rota is now on the website, I would be grateful if you could please let me know if you are

on the rota for anything and would like it changing. Many Thanks, Vicky ([email protected]).

Please note that the service pattern for Alpheton and Shimpling is in light of the possible union with

Lawshall and will be reviewed regularly.

Dates for your Diary Fri 10th – Sun 12th Sept – Camping Weekend, Launchpad.

Sunday 26th Sep, 4.00pm – Informal Worship at Holy Trinity

Sun Oct 10th – Elders Commissioning, 10.30am, HT, with Bishop Mike

Sun Oct 24th, 4.00pm – Messy Church

Suggestions for Prayer We remember before God those who have recently died and those who mourn.

For those who have just received exam results as they plan the next season of their lives.

For all who are suffering from mental health problems.

For Lawshall Parish as we continue to reflect on the possible union.

For key workers to be able to get some refreshment after 18 months flat out during the pandemic.

For people to hear God’s voice when he is speaking to them.

15th August (Trinity 11)

Collect (prayer for the day) O God, you declare your almighty power most chiefly in showing mercy and pity:mercifully grant to us such a measure of your grace, that we, running the way of your commandments, may receive your gracious promises, and be made partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

22nd August (Trinity 12)

Collect Almighty and everlasting God, you are always more ready to hear than we to pray and to give more than

either we desire or deserve: pour down upon us the abundance of your mercy, forgiving us those things

of which our conscience is afraid and giving us those good things which we are not worthy to ask but

through the merits and mediation of Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in

the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen

29th August (Trinity 13) Collect Almighty God, who called your Church to bear witness that you were in Christ reconciling the world to

yourself: help us to proclaim the good news of your love, that all who hear it may be drawn to you;

through him who was lifted up on the cross, and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,

now and for ever. Amen

5th Sept (Trinity 14) Collect Merciful God, your Son came to save us and bore our sins on the cross: may we trust in your mercy and

know your love, rejoicing in the righteousness that is ours through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
