IRACOREHIBBING, MINNESOTA

Iracore International LLC designs and manufactures elastomeric lined pipe and fittings for the oil sands mines in Fort McMurray, Alberta. Iracore has worked with oil sands companies since the mid 1990s and started testing its current generation of products in 2000. Since then, the company has grown its market share to about 50 per cent of the installed base of slurry pipelines at the mines. Today, the oil sands mining market represents a significant percentage of Irancore’s total sales – and it’s a growing market. With 150 employees, Iracore and its related companies are one of the largest employers in the Hibbing, Minnesota area. Iracore’s supply chain extends to the eastern and southern United States. The company also has created jobs in Canada by hiring local sales and service people to support the team.

IMI CCIHOUSTON, TEXAS

IMI CCI was founded upon core engineering problem-solving principles. Their unique combination

of engineering expertise and global resources has one goal: to prevent or cure customer valve and

silencer flow control problems. IMI CCI employs over 400 people in North America. Oil sands represent

nearly 10 per cent of its Americas business, and it is expected to grow to 18 per cent by 2020. Based on

the past three years of business activity, the company is assessing whether to open a facility in Edmonton

to support future growth.

DETECT INCPANAMA CITY, FLORIDA

DeTect, Inc., based in Panama City, FL, manufactures radar systems for detection and tracking of aircraft, ships and birds, and for wind measurement. The company provides bird radar systems for aircraft-bird strike prevention at airports and for bird protection at sites including wind farms, solar plants, power plants, mines, and oil and natural gas facilities. Since 2008, the company has been supplying its MERLIN Bird Control Radar Systems to several Canadian oil sands facilities. The technology has been successful in humanely preventing birds from landing on the oil sands tailings ponds. DeTect currently delivers $5-6 million in Florida-manufactured equipment to Canada annually (20 per cent of its total business) and the company maintains a Canadian office in Montreal. In addition to providing products and services to Canadian customers, DeTect also sources components from various Canadian companies.

MISTRAS GROUP INC.PRINCETON JUNCTION, NEW JERSEY

MISTRAS Group Inc., established in 1978, has over 250 employees located in New Jersey, engaged in R&D and manufacturing, and at their Headquarters in Princeton Junction. MISTRAS is a global provider of technology-enabled asset protection solutions used to evaluate the structural integrity of critical energy, industrial and public infrastructure. MISTRAS has been involved with Canada’s oil sands industry since 2000, supplying solutions for oil pipelines and processing facilities. The company currently has three offices/ laboratories in Alberta, including a facility in Fort McMurray. Further growth in the oil sands industry and the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline – if approved – will result in more R&D and manufacturing jobs in New Jersey, plus more jobs in other parts of U.S. during construction of the pipeline.

KOIKE ARONSONARCADE, NEW YORK

Koike Aronson, in Arcade, New York, is an autonomous subsidiary of Koike Sanso Kogyo, based in Japan. Employing over 150 people, Koike Aronson manufactures and supplies welding equipment including advanced cutting machines, welding positioning equipment, portable cutting and portable welding machines. While Koike Aronson has increased its worldwide sales, it took a deliberate and strategic path to expand sales to Canada. Its efforts have contributed to exponential sales growth of Koike products with Canadian accounts receivable increasing to $4 million in 2014 from $1.25 million in 2004. The company sells to several companies that supply equipment to the Alberta oil sands including Liebherr, Syncrude, Cameron and others. Canada is critical to Koike’s growth plans.
