A CENTRAL OF EXCELLENCE Quality teaching and learning in a well-resourced environment Yeoval Central School Term 3 Week 5 PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Our school has a number of events and activities happening over the next two weeks. Our next major event is the Choir Eisteddfod on Tuesday (16 th August). Students are expected to wear full school uniform (with tie). Parents are invited to attend the eisteddfod to watch the performance. The SRC have a Hot Dog Day on Wednesday and funds raised for this activity will go towards the Big Gig. The P&C had a treats day last Friday and the funds raised will support our students who are representing our school at the Schools’ Spectacular. Seventeen primary students will represent our school at the NARRAF / Gobondery District Athletics Carnival in Narromine. Miss Welch will manage the team. Students need to have their notes to the office so travel arrangements can be finalised. A copy of the carnival program is available at the office. Good luck all students. The Trial HSC for senior students has been com- pleted. Students now follow their timetable and access Video Conferences and lessons. Student reports will be available later this term. Early entries to university have been handed to interested students. Year 12 students have the opportunity to access teacher assistance after school to improve skills and concepts in specific learning areas that were recognised in the trial examinations. It is the responsibility of the students to communi- cate with their teachers and arrange extra help to achieve better HSC results. Mrs Blatch and I attended the Western NSW Primary Principals Association Conference. The conference highlighted Health and Wellbeing in schools as well as leadership in Western Schools. We listened to a number of keynote speakers in- 15 August 2011 cluding Kevin Sheedy (AFL), Janine Shepherd (Olympic cross country skier), Dr Sally Cockburn (medical practitioner) and Bill Chaffey (world champion wheelchair athlete). Year 10 subject selection choices are due this Friday (19 th August). A meeting of Western Access principals will determine senior student subjects for 2012. Parents / students will be informed this semester. Outstanding school accounts will be sent to parents this week. It is important that all accounts are paid this term. A number of accounts are the result of course fees not paid. Unfortunately the school is not in a position to absorb these costs. Unpaid school contributions result in resources for students not being purchased in 2012. It’s not OK to be away. If a child misses one day of school each week therefore they miss a term of learning each year. By the end of Year 6 they would have missed 1 1 / 2 years, and by Year 12 they would miss 2 3 / 4 years of learning. Our school is here for learning. Don’t forget to collect those Woolworths and Coles dockets and put them in the boxes at school so we can “Earn and Learn” and collect more sporting gear. STUDENT SAFETY For the safety of all students, we would appre- ciate it if all visitors to the school please report to the school office. School hats may still be worn at school this term Chewing gum is banned No aerosol cans No cans of drink at school YCS is a nut free school John Bernasconi, Principal

There are conditions that need to be met if students undertake a VET/TVET subject: VET/TVET will be limited to one (or two at most) per student.

Cost per placement is $150.00 paid prior to placement, except PI. This covers accommodation costs only and all food needs to be supplied by students.

35 hours/year/subject is mandatory of all VET subjects and usually takes place in Dubbo or the Trade Training Centres at Peak Hill or Trundle, with the other WAP schools.

Travel to and from placement is the responsibil-ity of the parent/caregiver. WAP teachers trans-port students after they arrive at the motel/hostel.

If there are planned activities (eg: specialist ap-pointment) that the student cannot miss and this happens to occur during placement, the coordina-tor and Mr Maher must be informed 2 weeks prior to placement.

Not all TVET subjects require mandatory place-ment (this is at the discretion of the teacher) and if necessary will take place in Year 12 only, due to the large numbers of students. The Year 11 block will be local.

Both PI blocks are to be completed locally in consultation with the teacher, although there is a rural skills training week in Dubbo for PI students in Year 11 @ $150.

Students must attend a mandatory work readi-ness session which the coordinator will conduct in the schools prior to placement.

PLEASE NOTE: UNIFORM/CLOTHING POOL SHOP

Until further notice, the uniform shop will be open by appointment only. Phone: Gaela: 6846 4560 Michele: 6846 4519 If the shop door is open, uniforms will be available for purchase.
