A15 MOTORWAY MAASVLAKTE - VAANPLEIN - BOTLEK BRIDGE Facts Project Description This concession project comprises design, construction, financing and operation of 37 km of the A15 highway between the Rotterdam harbour (Maasvlakte) and interchange Vaan- plein. The outstanding example of structural engineering within this project is the new Botlek Bridge (steel bridge, lifting bridge) across the Oude Maas. The project is carried out by the A-Lanes A15 consortium formed by Strabag, Ballast Nedam, Strukton and John Laing. The expansion to double parallel lanes along both sides of the carriageway and the replacement of the old Botlek bridge by the new lifting bridge considerably improves the circulation in the whole area between the growing port and the industrial complex of Rotterdam. Additionally, the 25-years-DBFM-contract includes the management and maintenance of the A15 as well as all technical systems, bridges, viaducts and road tunnels. The new Botlek-Bridge being one of the largest moveable bridges in the world features two superstructures of 90 m width each and 14 m clearance height closed above water and will be lifted to a maximum height of 45 m. The pier height measures 65 m, the weight to be lifted is 4,850 tonnes on each side. The bridge carries four traffic lanes and two hard shoulders as well as a double-track railway line. Not only the weight to be moved is impressive, but also the frequency of the openings: the bridge is opened once every hour, or 9,000 times per year. The lifting height is 31 m and only 120 seconds are required for the entire opening or closing procedure. CONSTRUCTION WORKS: - Design and build of Botlek Bridge - 17,000m³ underwater concrete at each foundation - 200 ton reinforcement - 2,000m² underwater steel formwork - 7 pouring days 24/7 - Rehabilitation of Botlek Tunnel and Thomassen Tunnel and of 36 further structures - New construction of 12 further intersection structures of A15 - Installation of traffic guidance system for 37 km (SAT Vienna) - Maintenance of motorway until 2035 REHABILITATION AND EXTENSION OF MOTORWAY EQUIPMENT LIKE: Noise protection wall / Traffic control system / Safety fence / Traffic signposting / M&E etc. BRIDGE CONSTRUCTIONS: - 2 steel decks of 3,750 ton each, final weight 5,000 ton each - 69 bridges respectively overpasses: approx. 507,000 m² - construction: approx. 216,000 m² - rehabilitation: approx. 291,000 m² - length of abutment: approx. 7,200 m City/Country Nieuwegein / Netherlands Client A-LANES A15 Mobility VOF, Nieuwegein Architect A-LANES A15 Mobility VOF Contract Value € 330,53 Mio.
