The First Lighting Revolution…

… began in 1995 with the

introduction of LED

passenger signs.

They were tiny, rather

pale and expensive –

but extremely reliable.

The introduction of advanced technology is not an easy

task in aerospace industry.

With every flight, the aircraft (and the cabin) is exposed to

variation of temperature, pressure and humidity.

Fire in the cabin is one of the most

serious events in flight.

Airbus has set high standards, which

have been acknowledged by the

major airworthiness authorities.

FST-Compliance of all materials is a must for use onboard

Polymers, down to component level,

have to demonstrate compliance with

the severe limits for Fire propagation,

Smoke emission and Toxic gas

generation.

Colour Tolerances of LED

High colour fidelity and a maximum gamut

are contradictory requirements

They limit the gamut, and as

such reduce the customisation

possibilities.

Production, temperature and

ageing related tolerances

require correction mechanisms

to avoid local colour distortion.
