Aurora A plays a role in cell cycle regulation during anaphase and/ortelophase in relation to the function of the centrosome/spindle poleregion during chromosome segregation. Aurora A plays a key role duringtumor development and progression and is overexpressed in manyhuman cancers including breast, ovarian and colorectal. Aurora A isviewed as a potential target for anticancer drug treatment.

Survivin is an inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP), expressed in the G2/M cell cycle phase. At theonset of mitosis, survivin associates with microtubules of the mitotic spindle in a specific andsaturable reaction that is regulated by microtubule dynamics. Disruption of survivin-microtubule interactions results in loss of survivin's anti-apoptotic function and increasedcaspase 3 activity. Survivin is over expressed in a range of tumors including lung, pancreas,breast, prostate and squamous cell carcinoma.
