I hope every one of my ABATE brothers and sisters are enjoying the summer rid-
ing season. This article is coming to you in what is probably the most dead time of the year for legislative, so here are some quick hits on our issues.
Wet planting season raises questions about ethanol - flooding throughout Illi-
nois lowered projections of corn being planted. Fortunately our farmers were able to recover in time to plant normal acreage. When projections were looking low for
Illinois Farmers there was a question about the viability of ethanol. Why were we diverting grain from our food supply into our fuel supply? This raises the prices of food overall when corn is scarce. I think this may be a viable issue to discuss with
elected officials this year.
ABATE to tackle the issue of autonomous vehicles head-on - the numerous issues caused by the lack of guidance on autonomous vehicles statewide and Na-
tionwide has led to a regulatory no man's land where anything goes. Despite posi-tive conversations that we have had with industry leaders in this field, there are
signs of reckless behavior which could potentially endanger motorcyclists. We will be working on legislation this season to ensure that motorcyclist will remain
safe with robots attempting to drive on our roads.
A trailer bill to fix trailer fees? There have been numerous members that have reached out to me regarding the increase in trailer fees from $18 to $118 on
small trailers which are typically used to haul motorcycles. Another aspect of this that had been overlooked was the trailers that you pull behind a motorcycle have also increased in this amount. I am currently working on finding a solution that
may result in these fees being reduced. Unfortunately a good deal of legislative leaders are on vacation during the summer. This makes finding a quick solution
hard to do.
More funding for off-road trail grants. Our very own Hunter John sits on the board that reviews off-road trail grants for the state of Illinois. The Illinois Depart-
ment of Natural Resources originally reported a shortage in the grant fund of near-ly $500,000 when compared to the records that we had. Hunter John protested,
Illinois Department of Natural Resources eventually found that they had made an error in their calculations. This resulted in an additional $500,000 being issued out in grants to provide off-road recreational opportunities in Illinois this year. Many
thanks to Hunter John for keeping an eye on the off-road issues for us.
Profiling issues continue throughout the nation and in Illinois. There has been a rise in incidents where police officers have pulled over individual simply
for wearing vests on their backs. In Illinois we have seen where cities have tried to ban the act of wearing a vest, or ban motorcycles entirely from public streets. I
will continue to review potential laws that may address these issues.
The three legged blind wombat As-
sociation of America. I made men-tion of the three-legged blind wombat
Association of America at the June board of directors meeting. If you're
interested in potentially joining this absurd association and furthering the spirit of levity in our great ABATE
organization while raising money to fight for our rights, shoot me an email
LEGISLATIVE REPORT
Hello to everyone:
I make the challenge for attendance to
the MOTM being held in Blooming-
ton, Minnesota.
It is September 19-21,2019.
Be there or be square. It is always
great to get together with folks from
around the states and see what is go-
ing on and comparing notes. You
never know what you might learn.
Helping each other out and being
about motorcycling is what it is about
and not who does it better.
Different language in another state
might help juices for another state to
get something accomplished to keep
and maintain motorcycle freedom.
Please make sure to renew your mem-
bership to the MRF. If you have any
questions, please contact me.
Looking forward to hearing and see-
ing you all soon.

SEPTEMBER 2019 ABATE OF ILLINOIS, INC. NEWS 5
Well the days are getting
shorter and the summer is starting to
wane. Vacations are behind us and the
colors of fall will soon be upon us.
So, there are many topics I could be
writing about Profiling, E-15, New
Taxes, Electric motorcycles. The right
to choose, Protective gear, Autonomous
vehicles. I could be reflecting up the
State Party and the new faces and good
times, the other events we have had and
the ones yet to come.
But instead I have decided to look at
membership. I’m not going to waste
your time by stating the obvious or go-
ing on and on about how membership is
everybody’s responsibility. I’m not
going to say things like your chapter
needs to get out there and do more
events. These are all things you have
heard in the past. So, I’m not going to
bore you with repeating the same old
things.
Instead I would like to focus on the
future. What is the future of Motorcy-
clists and bikers in general is going to
look like in the future with out ABATE
and the other SMRO’s. Yes, I said
WITHOUT because currently SMRO’s
in general are becoming less relevant
and over all membership is waning like
the seasons. Out of our own organiza-
tion of the thousands of members that
are ABATE of Illinois. There are may-
be 100 dedicated individuals who are
helping steer the ship and keeping their
fingers in the damn so to speak.
Involvement, it takes more than your
yearly membership fee to keep our or-
ganization afloat. It takes involvement
if nothing else to show the people who
are dedicated that they are appreciated
and not wasting their time. Just think
about this, if 10% of our membership
would show up to an event. We would
have the most successful events in
years.
Fun, I have heard that the problem is
lack of Fun. Well folks here are the
harsh truths Legislation is not Fun or
Sexy of Cool. So, I get it, go on the Fun
Runs support your local events and
have fun. But let me ask you this. Sup-
porting whatever run/ride you choose is
that going to keep E-15 out of your
tank? Is that going to keep the freedom
to choose what you wear or ride? Is that
going to give the privileges to ride
where you want and go where you
want.?
Apathy is our worst enemy. I have
heard it all before there is only so much
time in the year and so many weekends
and let’s face it, only so much disposa-
ble income. But by not being involved
and not helping support or worse sup-
porting something else more than
ABATE is going be the cause of the
slow agonizing death of ABATE and
the loss of your rights and freedoms.
There are constant wake up calls wait-
ing in the weeds to be brought forward.
The saying is you never know what you
had till its gone.
You are in control of your freedoms if
you choose to take them for granted,
they will be taken away from you. Once
they are gone they will be lost forever.
So, let this all sink in for a bit, Be in-
volved, Show up, Be in the moment.
Keep the sun at your back and the wind
in your hair.
Dennis “BisKit” Byron
State Coordinator ABATE of Illinois
President South Suburban Chapter of
ABATE of Illinois
Hey again
A.B.A.T.E riders and members. As I’m
sure you have noticed, you can’t ride
anywhere right now without hitting
construction, or poor road conditions.
Right now, it’s a fact of life. Please just
slow down and work with the delays.
Too many people are getting in a hurry
to get through these areas and accidents
are at an all-time high in Ill. due to dis-
tracted and impatient driving. Ok off
the soap box for now. I was able to at-
tend the Heart of Ill. A.B.A.T.E Chig-
gerfest event that has been held for 25
years and was one of the late Spam’s
favorite events. Fun was had by all. It’s
sad that we are losing more and more of
these small A.B.A.T.E events due to
lack of participation. For many years
these events were looked forward to as
a way to get with friend from all over
our state now it’s face time or other
social media means and it’s just not the
same. I have found through my own
chapter that just getting together for an
afternoon ride starts members and
friends talking and exchanging ideas.
An active chapter is a happy chapter
and when you are out as a group people
like to come and ask questions, about
your group. For example our chapter
just did a ride to help The East Peoria
Honor Flite, and because of that when
we rode to the Country Saloon in East
Peoria for a dinner ride channel 25
filmed the chapter pulling in and inter-
viewed some of the chapter board mem-
bers and Debra Schott the chapter mem-
ber who was responsible for the event.
It’s events like these and I could go on
and on about events another chapter has
held and are still holding that helps to
keep A.B.A.T.E, and what we do in the
public’s eye, and we need that now
more than ever. As I have rode around
the State this year, I’m always surprised
at how many bike riders don’t know
anything about A.B.A.T.E. So, when
you are out there riding as a group or
just out for an afternoon ride, and stop
for lunch or a cold one talk to other
riders and put the word out about
A.B.A.T.E. In closing as always please,
please ride safe, and thank all of you for
being a part of A.B.A.T.E
Bob “Mouse” Ellinger
You do not
have to look too far for the basic reasons
that people just don’t want to come out on
a snowy evening, or rainy day, or a blaz-
ingly hot afternoon. As a matter of fact,
people in general nowadays need of lot of
encouragement — or feel a strong need
— to leave their home, perhaps miss din-
ner, and attend a meeting. You might say
that, in days past, meetings were much
easier to populate. In those days, there
was no internet, and people did not need
much of a reason to get out. But that can’t
the the full answer because there are
meetings going on in present times where
the seats are filled.
So what is your chapter doing wrong? If
the question comes up at a meeting, eve-
ryone in the meeting is instantly consid-
ered an expert. Sometimes, one or two
realistic answers come along, and the
group all nods. Then it promptly forgets
to follow the new plan because no one
wants to take the time to carry it out.
If any of this sounds familiar, think a bit
about why your meetings are meet-less.
It’s not fun sitting around a table, staring
at the same six or seven faces, meeting
after meeting, month after month. The
only thing that changes is the date — and
the weather.
So, what is it? What makes some organi-
zations wildly popular and others dismal-
ly boring? Why would someone pick to
go to one meeting and pass up another?
The answer is importance. Importance is a
crucial element in gathering up people for
a meeting. Each one of the has to believe
that they are attending for something very
important to them or to people they know
and love. A parent, for example, will at-
tend a meeting if he or she believes that it
will help the child. If it’s some sort of self
-improvement, the attendee will show up
only if her or she thinks that genuine ben-
efits will accrue. No one attends meetings
(or at least few do) just to bolster the at-
tendance figures. There has to be some-
thing in that meeting that is unique, inter-
esting, and, that golden word, important.
So how does a person come to believe
that a meeting is important? That’s not
hard. The answer is that someone has to
tell the potential attendee why it is im-
portant to attend. What is the benefit?
What is going to be learned? Will the
experience be deadly or a lot of fun, or, at
least, will the meeting help me in some
way? Nothing sexy about a religious or
political organization, but you must con-
tinue to look for ways to entice people to
your events.
One way to convince people that a meet-
ing is important is to explain to the poten-
tial audience why it is important. The
leader of a voluntary group would be
smart to use whatever communication
tools there are (postal mail, email, flyers,
newsletter, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook,
personal or chain calls, anything) to in-
form the potential attendees why it’s im-
portant that they be there that day or
evening. The best way to do this is to pro-
vide absolutely candid discussions to the
“masses” about what needs to be dis-
cussed, what information will be gleaned,
how much fun it will be — and why.
Bring your membership into the discus-
sion. Make the average person in it aware
of the problems as well as the benefits of
any meeting.
Don’t discuss how patriotic it would be to
attend meeting, or how much it would
help the organization. Instead, discuss
some of the programs to be offered, some
of the unique products or services that
will be on display and how they fit into
the current scheme of things. Bring them
in! Let them know all about the benefits
and put it in terms of what problems there
are to overcome.
With this attitude, the general member-
ship will feel that the next meeting or
whatever is important. No one wants to
attend a fully orchestrated meeting —
unless it’s a full orchestra! The average
member is the person that the organiza-
tion exists to serve, but the only way to do
that is to involve the average person. If
you look at your last chapter meeting and
then look at the organization, you should
be able to see whether the membership is
being drawn into the Big Discussions, is
relied on to provide the fresh timber to
create future board members and officers,
or is in position to move the organization
to the next step, whatever that may be. If
you remember that no organization can
exist very long if it is no longer serving
the needs of its members, you will be
impressed with the importance of keeping
all the members involved in a meaningful
way.
If there is a problem with getting new
members to join, discuss this with the
current membership. If money is low,
throw out the topic for general input. Ask
any significant, except why people don’t
come to meetings. Most people don’t un-
derstand why others don’t come to meet-
ings, but they know why they don’t at-
tend.
Email lists and Facebook pages offer an
excellent method to keep everyone in-
volved. It’s a tough road for a volunteer
rights organizations to continually im-
prove their attendance and possibly keep-
ing the organization alive and flourishing.
PR continued on page 7…..
SHOW ME THE MONEY
When money is leaves the bank, the IRS wants to know all about it.
ABATE is a 501c4 with a primary pur-pose as a Motorcycle Rights Organization (MRO).
Chapters are always allowed to raise money for themselves and MROs.
MROs include: the chapter; other ABATE chapters; A.B.A.T.E of Illinois, Inc; ABATE PAC; FedPAC; Motorcycle Rights Foundation (MRF) and MRFPAC. Chapters are encouraged to donate $100 annually to be a Sustaining Member of MRF.
50/50 raffles are one-time events. The net income\donation(s) should be reported on the 990 as Activities Income. If the 50/50 raffle is held at a tavern with video gam-ing, the chapter should get a County Raf-fle License. County reporting require-ments may include total sales and total expenses with the winner's name and amount. Legal County reporting require-ments are not part of the chapter's finan-cial report for the 990.
An annual general fundraiser for nonspe-cific member(s) of the chapter is OK. For example: annual Downed Rider Benefit (DRB) where the beneficiaries are un-known at the time of event. Surplus DRB funds may be used for the general chapter operations or savings. The IRS doesn't care about the amount in a savings ac-
count. The IRS tends to concern itself when funds are raised or spent. IRS 990 takes notes when more than $5,000 do-nated to a person or another organization. They also take note when more than $600 is paid for services\goods to one per-son\organization. (That’s a different top-ic.)
One-time non-MRO fundraising events may be deposited to an ABATE checking account with net proceeds to the individu-al, cause or group. One-time fundraising for a chapter member may be deposited to the ABATE checking account with net proceeds to the ABATE member.
Fundraising and/or direct donations to non-MRO are legal but must be reviewed in context of the chapter's bylaws, the
receiving organization's purpose, the amount involved and frequency of pay-ments. Supporting another organization is fine.
If the receiving organization has a check-ing account, that’s your first sign that it might not be proper. Non-MRO money in an ABATE account is bad karma.
A problem begins when one-time non-MRO events become annual events. For even more detailed discussion, attend the Treasurer’s Training at ABATE STEEL, January 18, 2020.
Always a Pleasure,
Paul Truax

TEN THINGS TO THINK ABOUT IF YOU'RE ARRESTED
What do you do when the men and wom-en in blue show up? What are your rights and what should happen? We get many inquiries from parents, neighbors, and concerned friends about their rights and what to expect. The following tips should help:
1. When am I arrested? You are arrested (or considered under arrest) when officers deprive you of your freedom of move-ment in order to have you answer for an alleged crime.
2. They want to question me - what are my rights? Just like in those TV shows, you have the right to remain silent. If you don't keep silent, anything you say can be used in court against you. If you start an-swering questions, you can stop at any time. You have the right to speak with your lawyer and have them with you dur-ing questioning.
3. The cops won't let me go, but they haven't arrested me. Can they do that? An officer can temporarily detain you in or-der to ask for identification and to get an explanation of your presence at a particu-lar time. You can be subject to a limited pat-down search to ensure that you have no weapons if the officer believes you are armed. You have the right not to answer the questions, but if you refuse to give any identification, the officer may have grounds to arrest you. Once this tempo-rary detention is over, the officer must either arrest you or let you proceed on your way.
4. They want to arrest me, but don't have a warrant. Officers can make an arrest without a warrant if they witness the of-fense being committed. They can also make an arrest if they receive information from a credible person that the suspect committed a felony and is about to es-cape.
5. I got hurt when I was arrested. How much force can they use? An officer is entitled to use reasonable and necessary force to overcome resistance. These terms are relative, so the amount of force they can use depends on the situation.
6. They want to search my house. Do I have to let them? An officer may conduct a limited search of the surroundings with-out a warrant. If you are in your home, they may seize contraband, stolen proper-ty, or evidence of a crime in plain sight. They may also check the residence for accomplices. If you are in your car, they can search for weapons that could be used against them. They may not conduct a broader search without a warrant, unless they reasonably believe that the vehicle has evidence of crime or contraband.
7. I've been arrested. Now what? You are going to be taken to the detention facility, where you will be able to talk to an attor-ney. They should also tell you the charge being alleged. You can be required to participate in a lineup, give a handwriting sample, give a blood or urine sample, or perform certain other tasks.
8. I want out! Bail may or may not be set for your case, depending on the serious-ness of the charge. If the charge is rela-tively minor, you may be released on your own recognizance. You can also petition the court to reduce the amount of bail set.
9. Where can I get a lawyer? If you don't already know one, you can call your state or county bar association or us for a refer-
ral to criminal lawyers. If you can't afford to hire an attorney, you should tell the judge, who will ask you questions to determine if you qualify for a public defender.
10. My kid just called from jail. What rights do they have? Children have the same substantive rights as
adults. In addition, they have the right to have a parent with them when being ques-tioned. Also, the procedures in juvenile court are generally closed to the public.
RIDER SAFETY TRAINING EX-PERIENCE - AN EYE-WITNESS ACCOUNT
A reader reports: I participated in the ABATE course in Indianapolis. I was hesitant to try something so new and ex-treme, but found it to be an amazing expe-rience. I would like to share what I gained from this experience that you, so gener-ously, support. Before taking this class, I had no experience riding motorcycles, but sought to become a safe rider. With ener-gy, enthusiasm, and some anxious nerves, I opened myself up for a long and excit-ing weekend. From the very start, I knew my instructors would make this the best experience I could ask for. They were thorough, patient, and enthusiastic about everything they taught me and my fellow students. With every step we took and skill we practiced, the instructors were by our sides guiding us, but also letting us learn how to do things ourselves. I not only enhanced my skills and knowledge about safe riding, but my confidence grew, too. The instructors saw that grow-ing confidence, and had me lead the group in activities to support it. I had such a wonderful weekend with my ABATE friends. I learned how to be a safe, effi-cient rider, but developed relationships and met friends, too. I cannot thank you enough for supporting such an amazing cause. Please continue to do whatever you can to keep the ABATE courses running so well. I would hate to see what would happen if the only means of learning safe riding was no longer in existence. Again, I thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely, an ABATE student
ABATE LEGAL is proud to be a sponsor of the ABATE Motorcycle Safety Train-ing course and plan to be involved for many years to come.
WEIRD WIND - BANE OF MO-TORCYCLISTS
Many bikers go off the road violently and do not make it. Many assume they just lost it. I have another theory – weird wind. I have a friend who is a member of ABATE, and a biker’s biker – a motorcy-clist perfected. He also happens to be a pilot – not just a pilot, but an airline transport commercial pilot. When it comes to wind, he knows all you need to know. Except a while back,
Mother Nature threw him a new one – "weird wind." It was a really hot, gusty day, on the flats of Illinois, just perfect for dust devils, wind shear – all the weird winds. Running with good speed down the state highway, he noticed the violent wind from the left and the front end climb up first, then the rear wheel oscillation, and finally, a violent high side to the right. He may have been shoved to the right and just lost it. Who knows?
Looks like he may be back to walking, riding and flying in a few, if he is lucky. What happened, and how do we learn from his experience? Some blame the incident on a microburst that nailed
him. Whatever it was – it was invisible. Bikers and pilots suffer the same expo-sure. Years ago, I was flying with a buddy in a Cessna 140. He too is a hard core biker. I asked him about his greatest fear with flying. He said "weird wind." What can you do to avoid it? Be aware of
weather that causes wind shear and mi-crobursts, but other than that, it is like getting hit by lightning. To avoid that, you have to stay home, but that is not like us, is it?
ANATOMY OF A SLIP AND FALL CASE
Cary Scott stayed at a hotel recently, La Quinta Inn. He is a good customer and will be returning in a couple of weeks. His job as a project engineer takes him all over the U.S., an ABATE member, and regularly reads this column. He is a stand tall, pays his bills, supports his family, votes, never been sued or ever sued any-one kind of guy, and a pretty good pool player. And he needed some help from ABATE LEGAL.
Here is the problem. In early December, he was leaving the Inn, minding his own business, watching where he was going and slipped on the wet tile at the exit door all the while wearing Wolverine boots with one of the best non slip soles God ever made. Partially catching himself in the fall, Scott injured himself and tore a leather coat. The staff at the hotel quickly placed a weather mat at the hotel entry to take care of the slippery nature of the tile. ADMISSION NUMBER ONE. There is also a video camera at this entrance area. ADMISSION NUMBER TWO. After the treating doc examined him, a prescription for pain pills was given and he went about his way. Hopefully he just got shot at and missed and would be ok in a few. All of this was communicated to the folks at the hotel and they promised that they would get with him regarding his medical bills and damaged coat – over a month ago. ADMISSION NUMBER THREE.
After getting no response from La Quinta, Scott called ABATE LEGAL as he sus-pected they were ignoring him. In today’s world many companies pass their respon-sibilities to companies with nefarious names like “risk pool managers, risk as-sessment evaluators, risk adjustment bu-reaus” etc. You get the idea. Just like in a John Wayne movie – they went that away. My experience is that delay, avoid-ance and the like are part of the strategy – “if we don’t call them back maybe THEY will go away and we don’t have to pay THEM.” “Let’s make it too hard to deal with us.” Hopefully that will not be the case with La Quinta – but we shall see.
Scott is a straight shooter and only wants to be reimbursed for his losses. He has read my previous article on signing re-leases and so he knows that nothing should be signed that would waive any right to claims he may have for permanent injuries. He needs to continue with his medical treatment to make sure that his problems are not permanent and that he will not need surgery in the future. Noth-ing worse than having signed a full and complete release for a few hundred bucks, only find out a couple of months later that you need shoulder surgery and may not be able to do your job – or worse.
In the meantime Scott will copy me on all correspondence to La Quinta and their “risk pool manager.” Hopefully that will help; and hopefully his injuries are tem-porary; and hopefully the hotel will do the right thing and that I will not be needed. But if I am needed, we are prepared to help him to the next step because it is the right thing to do. And he wants his experi-ence published so that others can benefit from his efforts. We will keep you posted as his case develops. Remember that America is one of the safest countries in the world according to my theory. First, we don’t want to get hurt ourselves, Sec-ond, we don’t want to hurt others, and finally, if you have to pay for what you break you are that much more careful. It is that simple.
Postscript -- Scott had to sue to get the matter resolved.
CAN I CUT THE BITCH/BASTARD OUT OF MY WILL? (LET’S TRY THAT AGAIN) CAN I DISINHERIT MY SPOUSE?
Q: I have been marr ied for 22 years, but we are no longer getting along. She is my sole beneficiary under my Last Will and Testament – CAN I CUT HER OUT OF MY WILL?
A: Most states let you do what you want with your stuff [personal property and real estate] when you die. However, most states will not let you cut out your spouse completely unless they agree. In many states, including Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, a surviving spouse can renounce your Will if you have cut her out and elect to receive a percentage of your assets, regardless of what you provide for in your Will. And you thought you got rid of him/her!
WHERE THERE’S A WAY, THERE SHOULD BE A WILL
Q: I want to do my will, but I’m not sure what I should put in it or what I need to consider when I’m doing my will.
A: Anybody who’s ever heard me speak at one of the state seminars knows that I think everybody should have a will. They don’t have to be complex, and they don’t have to be expensive. We do wills for ABATE members for free!
When you are ready to make a will, there are several things you will need to think about and come to a decision on:
● Who should receive my property?
● Who should take care of my minor chil-dren?
● Do I need to create a trust for my spouse or minor/adult children?
● Do I want to make any charitable gifts?
● Should my life insurance go to a trustee or directly to the beneficiaries?
● Who do I want to administer my will?
● What about taxes?
If you already have a will, you should review it to make sure it is up to date and reflects changes in your marital status or changes in the beneficiaries you named.
And by the way, there are several require-ments that have to be met to ensure that the will is valid. In general, the will has to be made by some over 18 and of sound mind and memory. Also, it must be in writing, signed by the maker, and wit-nessed (with signatures) of two disinter-ested persons (not anyone who would benefit from or is named in the will). Up-on the death of the person who made the will, it is presented to the court, who will make sure it is valid and provide appro-priate orders to make sure the instructions are carried out.
If you don’t have a will, or want to make changes to your will, call ABATE LE-GAL SERVICES. We will do your will for you, free of charge!

Be honest and transparent when sending
out material to attract new members. Edu-
cate the younger riders by conveying to
them what you have accomplished locally
and nationally to ensure that motorcyclist
issues stay at the forefront of the discus-
sion. Show them that you are making a
difference. Let them know about your
whole organization, not just a narrow
scope of membership and money.
Welcome ALL riders into your meeting.
When you see someone new walk in, wel-
come them with open arms, make them
feel like they are part of your chapter and
have found a new family and friends. And
don’t criticize the way they look now,
what they ride, or their amount of riding.
We are all riders, be welcoming.
I know the more seasoned riders have life
experience and perhaps a different frame
of reference. But we should never think
that the younger generation is any differ-
ent. As a leader, you should always wel-
come new ideas from everyone, and the
younger riderss are full of ideas, just as
we were at that age. You should embrace
their energy and let them share their ideas
about improving your chapter you will be
pleasantly surprised with the innovative
ideas that they come up with. Be open to
these new ideas.
Keep your meetings short and to the
point. If you have younger riders at your
meetings, assign them a task during the
meeting and ask them to work with the
membership to complete it. Get them in-
volved in the administration of your chap-
ter and encourage their involvement. The
younger generation, especially the millen-
nials like to solve problems by working
and teaming with a group. This is a prime
opportunity for the chapter leadership to
mentor those younger riders. Be patient.
Most of your members live, work, and
shop in your community. Turn your chap-
ter into a place where riders can network
with the community. Invite local business
owners, company executives, your local
college representatives, or members of the
local Chamber of Commerce to speak at
your meetings. Make your chapter the
local point of contact for motorcyclist
issues.

WOW!!! Where did the summer go?
Here it’s September already and it
doesn’t seem possible. I hope that every-
one has able to get out and get some
miles under their belt and are continuing
to be out riding. Stay safe. It seems this
year we were constantly seeing motorcy-
cle accidents happening all over the me-
dia. The Freeport Chapter lost 2 more
members, Gene & Cynthia Carroll to a
motorcycle accident. Please keep their
family in your thoughts and prayers. We
are still riding, so please be safe.
As of this writing the Convergence Run

Recently, Blackhawk Chapter ABATE of Illinois was approached with an oppor-tunity at a local nursing home. The staff at Aperion Care in East Moline, IL asked if a few members would like to ride to the facility to do a little presentation for some of the residents there. We gladly obliged. The original plan was to do this for National Motorcycle Day which was July 12th. Unfortunately, not everyone could make that day work due to work schedules, etc. So, we opted for July 16th. On Tuesday July 16th, Tim Wassell, B
Wassell, Molly Condon, Jason Upton and myself arrived at the nursing home about 5:30 pm. The staff had us park our bikes outside the main door next to the side-walk. The idea was to bring out some residents who may want to see some mo-torcycles, and perhaps engage in a little conversation, and pass out some safety and ed information. It was very low key and informal. One by one, a resident would be wheeled out. Many of the residents that came out used to ride, once upon a time. Due to health reasons, they could no longer do so, and for some it had been many years since they had been on a motorcycle. I can’t begin to describe the level of emo-
tion that emulated from their faces as, one by one, they looked over each of our bikes. Those that could articulate asked questions and reminisced about their glo-ry biker days. For one gentleman, who could no longer articulate as he once could, and whose eyes lacked that certain bit of luster, something clicked. Some-thing deep down inside him clicked, and he got a twinkle back in his eye, and a bit of a grin on his face. Originally, it was thought this would be about a 30-minute presentation. We were there for 2 hours. 2 hours of visiting, an-swering questions, listening to the stories of old bikers, and watching the happiness come back to their faces, if even for a
short period of time. We passed out some safety and ed information, shook some hands, and exchanged a lot of respect back and forth. When it was time to leave, they wanted to hear the bikes all start up together. We gladly obliged, and rode off together, with bikers of old waving us on. It was a truly rewarding experience. If any chap-ters can have the opportunity to do some-thing like this, please consider it. I, for one, would gladly do it again. Having been the NW Region Coordinator
for 2016, 2017 and 2018 and 2019 and I
am running again to be your NW Region
Coordinator for 2020. I have been a mem-
ber of ABATE since 2010. I have attended
each chapters meeting that is in our region,
once if not twice. I have attended events
the chapters have had thru out the year that
I have been able to. I have always made
myself available to all of our chapters and
was called upon many times with issues or
questions. I have been the Treasurer for the
Freeport Chapter for the past 7 years and I
was our Chapters BOD rep for two years
prior to becoming the NW Region Coordi-
nator. I have attended the E Board meet-
ings as your NW Region Coordinator, un-
less an emergency came up and will con-
tinue to do so. My goal, once again, is to
attend all the chapter meetings in 2020 and
any events they have if I am available to
do so.
Respectfully,

Hi folks,
The year is moving along. Nominations were last
month. Did I get nominated? Did I accept?
Would you like to be nominated? Let someone
know, the nominations will be open again at the
October meeting.
Can you tell me what your chapter is doing to get
new members? What are they doing to keep mem-
bers? Send your ideas to me and I will make a list
to share with other chapters. Let’s work as a
team!
Attention: The next combined newsletter will be
the November/December issue. The deadline will
be October 12th. It will include the last round of
nominations for the 2020 E-board.
Deadline for October issue is September 14. The
deadline for the Nov-Dec issue is October 12.
There will be no deadline in November, take the
month off but come back in December for the
January 2020 issue. See what I did, I just moved
thru 5 months in one paragraph! I hope I made
you smile.

Hello to all South Suburban Members &
Friends;
Will the MONOLOGUE continue? Will
more voices be seen & heard at our
meetings? Will ABATE become the
grass roots of motorcycling champions
that WE have been in the past? Will the
MONOLOGUE take over so I am print-
ing empty words on a blank computer
screen to be understood by NO ONE?
No one but the board members that read
my words & show up at OUR meetings?
Or has the MONOLOGUE taken over
the ATTITUDE of “Who cares, Why
bother, How could 1 vote change ANY-
THING?” Has this ATTITUDE of mind;
of shoot yourself in the foot, who does
anything for ME, I DID ALL THAT
YEARS AGO & WHATS CHANGED?
Another 3rd Thursday comes & goes so
will the MONOLOGUE continue?
ABATE has always been about motor-
cycles, camaraderie and POLITICS…
OUR LIVES!!! WE have fought in the
past & HAVE WON! But WE did this
with political numbers: WE signed post-
cards to be delivered to the Illinois con-
gress or committee floor at the right
time. WE made phone calls to demand
our RIGHTS! As you can hopefully
SEE: from D.C. to Springfield Il. Poli-
tics have also become more of a MON-
OLOGUE?!? 2 parties involved in only
1 conversation because neither will even
LOOK at a member of another party, or
acknowledge, or shake a hand. This IS
the MINDSET of party politics, of
pointing fingers, blaming the last guy,
NEVER TAKING ANY RESPONSI-
BILTY “It MUST be their fault because
I AM bringing this up, I chose to talk
about what THEY DID!!!!! Is this the
future of the MONOLOGUE??? 1 per-
son who demands constant attention
from who so ever will listen & or read a
tweet (@ 2AM???) So that all whose job
it is to parrot the MONOLOGUE CAN
& WILL DO SO Sunday morning???
TRUTH and FACTS are delegated to the
“FAKE NEWS” of the other party.
So there we have it; when the voices are
not even HEARD at a monthly meeting,
when the votes are not cast in the most
IMPORTANT ELECTION of their fam-
ily’s life… The ‘THINK TANKS’ of the
richer segment of our nation are well on
their way to return to the demi-god/king
way of the MONOLOGUE…
America once broke free of that 1% so-
ciety that owned all & demanded ALL
working people pay homage because the
RICH were born & ordained to be ruling
the world. So here has been my Septem-
ber soap box; do you have a VOICE? Do
you want to join and VOTE? When a
king is in charge the working voices are
so busy trying to raise their family they
can get caught up in the dog & pony
show of partisan politics. The BOTTOM
LINE is the world has NO FREE
STATES LEFT politics has invaded
every culture & lifestyle and if the pow-
ers who control the MONOLOGUE feel
that YOU speak in a POSSIBLE
WRONG VOICE….YOU are pushed to
the side, ignored, profiled and/AND?
(WAUKEGAN, ILLINOIS) ARE YOU
ready??? For your hometown??? Sept
19th will be our meeting @ Glenn Mak-
ers Legion Post #1160, 10805 S Ridge-
land Ave. your board meets @ 7pm/

REGION COORDINATOR
REPORT
Hello Will County members. First, for those who have Book Run books, please plan to attend the Book Run / End of Season party on November 2nd, 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM at the Stone City Post in Joliet. Your ticket is in the back of your Book Run book. Please see our Facebook Events page for more de-tails. October and November are the two
months you, the membership, nominate people to hold positions on the board of the Will County Chapter. This year, it’s very important that we have participation at these meetings. Why? Most of your current board members will not be seek-ing reelection for 2020. I will not be an officer again next year. Neither will Pat, JoAnne, Kathy, Pete, Debbie, and Dawn. If you members want the chapter to sur-vive, others have to step up to take the places of those who aren’t going to con-
tinue. According to the bylaws of ABATE, a chapter has to have the following officers: President, Secretary, Treasurer, Safety and Education, and Legislative. The last time I asked any of our officers, Paul said he would stay as S&E as he enjoys the work. Mike (Legislative) is undecided as of this writing. The other three required positions will all be vacant on January 1st if no one steps up. What happens if at least the five required
positions aren’t filled? The chapter will have to dissolve. Members will have to choose other chapters to join, and ABATE loses an important voice in Will County for motorcyclists rights. Please, think about it. Let this chapter survive. Respectfully, John Faulhaber President, Will County Chapter
Hello NE Region! Sorry about missing last month. I just flaked and missed the deadline. Several events were held in July and
from what I’ve heard, a good time was had by all. I have only two more events in the NE Region listed for this year. The first is DuKane’s Annual Toy and Food run on October 13th. The other is Will County’s Book Run / End of Season party on No-
vember 2nd. If I don’t list any other events, it’s be-cause I don’t know about them. My con-tact info is in the front of this paper. Send any event info my way and I’ll make sure it’s on the calendar. One last subject: Neither Dawn, nor I,
will be accepting nominations for NE Region Coordinator for 2020. We will be looking to get someone else to represent the NE Region on the Executive Board next year. Contact either of us to know what the job entails. John
One day I rode down to … Chillicothe, north of Peoria. I had heard from one of the local biker groups of a nice restaurant there and wanted to check it out. The ride down and back, about 300 miles, was great with lots of empty high-ways, corn and bean fields, and even huge wind turbines dotting the landscape. On the return trip, even with a GPS, I managed to get lost but eventually did return home safely. I was, however, an hour and a half late on my promised re-turn time so I had to endure some looks and words upon arrival at home. You-know-who was not happy. Sorry, honey. After that ride, I put a new tire on the
front of the bike. The tire I replaced had 17,000 miles on it and I was getting wor-ried about it cruising along at 70mph. The back tire has 4000 miles on it and still looks pretty good. What is the aver-age life span of a tire? Anybody??? The SDA Chapter Fun Ride was, unfor-tunately, kabashed due to the excessive heat and promise of thunder storms. The weather people give you the predicted temperature highs for the day, throw in something called a ‘heat index’, and then show you a weather map painted in reds and oranges, so it is no wonder people are afraid to go outside. At the last mi-nute some of our braver members did ride the route and visit the DuKane bike wash but the majority of us stayed home in the AC. I felt guilty about hanging out at home, not working on a weekend, and
not riding the bike, but the wife-unit ap-proved of my decision so I got back some good karma there. Last month our Southern DuPage chapter of ABATE gained new members, Tracy and Ryan. Tracy had joined one of our weekend “pop- up” rides and must have enjoyed herself because she promptly became a member. Ryan read of our ac-tivities on Facebook and did a “walk on” to our last meeting and joined. So, a hearty Welcome! to the both of you. Our chapter has a motorcycle themed quilt, handmade by our member Diana. We will raffle off this beautiful quilt at our Holiday meeting in December. Tick-ets to the quilt raffle can be purchased anytime, just contact Diana at [email protected] or SDA President Roger
at [email protected] and we will get you entered.
I’m sure there have been plenty of times
in each of our lifetimes that we each looked
across the table at our brother or sister and won-
dered what mom and dad were talking about
and why they didn’t understand what we were
going through or that they just didn’t get
it. Mom and dad always thought they knew
everything, and how many times have we
thought the same about our children and those
relationships. We became our parents. The
motorcycling community and ABATE have
found ourselves in a similar situation. Why
don’t the younger riders or sport bikers under-
stand what we’ve done for them, why don’t
they want to join ABATE, or what don’t they
understand? The one thing I’m certain of is that
the younger generation and sport bikers do
understand politics and I believe they are trying
to prove themselves. Now, how to we bridge
the disconnect between the older riders and the
younger riders? Thanks to Judy and Wally we
have a very good friend named Mike Taylor
and he owns the Toy Shop in Arlington
Heights. Mike promotes ABATE as often as
possible and even provided the vinyl screen
prints on our DuKane Toy Trailer. In early
July, our Kneeze in the Breeze Ride launched
from the Toy Shop. We were hoping to have
some new riders joins us and we did. We re-
cruited 5 new members. I can’t say they were
sport bikers or much younger than 30, but it
was a win. The Toy Shop welcomes all makes
and models, but the clientele is the younger
rider. Mostly sport bike riders and we at
DuKane are trying to bridge the riding gap and
find out what the younger riders are looking for
and how we can have them become members
and contributors. Let’s face it, we are aging out
and we need the younger generation to step up,
and we need to help them charter the course in
regard to motorcycle laws and education.
We were hoping to get some sport bikers at the
Kneeze Ride. Last year Judy, Linda and I
checked out the Glow Ride that leaves out of
Schaumburg and welcomes all riders. We
committed to joining Mike Taylor, The Toy
Shop and Ride Chi at the 6th Annual Glow
Ride the end of this past July. We had a booth
and talked to many participants about ABATE
of Illinois. We made a dent, but need to do
more.
By the time this article is distributed we will
have made another attempt at getting to know
the younger riders by hosting an old fashioned
cook out at the Toy Shop at their weekly bike
night. Several board members will be grilling
hot dogs and talking to visitors about ABATE
and how we can help each other.
Do you have ideas on how to engage the
younger riders or do you want to help us save
ABATE? The membership numbers for
ABATE of Illinois are dropping and we need to
build the membership back up, but it’s not a
one biker job, we all need to help.
Let’s talk in September at the general meeting
about how to engage the younger riders. I’m
going to miss the August meeting because I’ll
be riding around the Great Lakes with a bunch
of bikers.
And a quick progress report on July ac-
tivities: The Kneeze in the Breeze was
well attended and the after party at Trio
Grill in Marengo was exceptional. A
great venue for hosting an event. We
received many kudos on the ride support
and want to thank our blockers for an
exceptional job. The Bikini Bike Wash
well attended and our sponsors did not
disappoint. I want to thank Law Tigers
for their continued support as well as
Knuckleheads Bar for allowing us to
wash the bikes on their property. Their
lunch special was a big hit. Everyone had
a great time. DuKane sponsors the
Sethtastic Motorcycle Run, which report-
ed an amazing turn out. We are now full
steam ahead on the 33rd Annual Toy and
Food Run on October 13th. We’d love to
see members from ABATE of Illinois
participate in one of the largest motorcy-
cle runs in the State of Illinois. The Toy
Shop is a registration site and drop off
point for toys and food this year. Help us
spread the word about this great ride.

State and Chapters. Do not be afraid to
ask what the positions each have to do.
I have held 2 different positions in 2
years and enjoy every minute of it. I
have made some awesome friends
through the whole process. Please go
to your chapter meetings and if you
can not hold a position at least give
your support by assisting those officers
who keep your chapter together. It
takes all of us to make it work..
Will be time for the school buses to

the little angels crossing the road.
Hope those that went to Sturgis had a
great time. Something I have never
done. Hope everyone stayed safe.

you all. You voted to have this region

RIDERS CHAPTER
We are still growing as a chap-
ter. New members are added
about every month. I know most chap-
ters have more members than we do.
ILLINI abate is only in its first year of
being an official chapter of abate of
Illinois.
We are currently in the process of put-
ting together rides for next year. We
are looking to have a ride to help sup-
port our local animal shelter with food
and supplies. The other ride is a ride to
bring a smile to the elderly.
You see rides to support children but
elderly people seem to be forgotten.
Members of our chapter work for some
nursing homes in the area. They told us
that some elderly never get visitors,
some of them struggling to have per-
sonal items to get by. We all need to
remember that they use to be young at
one time. Motorcycling is not a new
thing, many of them has probably
ridden in their lifetime. I have visited
nursing homes and seen the elderly
light up by just having someone talk to
them. They are old but still have life
left. They have life lessons that the
younger generation could learn from. I
am going to challenge other chapters to
remember our elderly and not forget
about them.

Hello everyone,
It sure has been a crazy busy summer for some of us. The weather has been very good for riding this season. Hope if you were able to that you have enjoyed your
wind therapy as much as possible. I can not begin to put into words how thankful and proud I am of everyone for coming together to make Chiggerfest happen this year. To the select few that put their time and bodies into setting up and tearing everything down I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To our crew who worked all weekend long, I appreciate all
that you have done. To all of our new younger members, thank you for step-ping up and doing what needed to be done. Thank you to the members of other chapters that came out to support us. To the man who lets us invade his land and doesn't even blink, Ray we couldn't do it without you.
We will be planning more events to come
so come to our next meeting and let's kick this chapter back into gear. Our monthly meetings are held the 1st Thurs-day of each month at the Eagles in Bloomington starting at 7pm.
Until next month, Melissa

Hello Liberty! The last month
has been a busy one for YOUR Chapter. Here are some events we have had-
Bagelfest July 19+20. We had a good turnout of members show up and help out. This is an important PR event for the Chapter. We sold a number of State bike raffle tickets and also showcased the raf-fle we are supporting for the Annual Camp New Hope fundraiser and run. Thanks to all who participated!
Speaking of Camp New Hope, we also saw good support for that event. Lots bikes on the run and good results from the raffles and auctions. Although the num-bers have not come in as of this writing, I am sure a large donation is forthcoming to support the good work Camp New Hope does. Shout out to liberty ABATE members Donnie Dow, Kevin and Debbie McKay, Karen Smith Glenn and Bonnie Brunson and Henry Magee for all there hard work.
Other events included a social ride to Witt's Smokehouse and Vahling Vine-
yards on August 3, where many Liberty members got to together for the ride to Effingham, enjoyed lunch together and socialized at the Vineyard.
On August 2 we held a PR event in Sulli-van, to get the name of ABATE out there to the public. In the few hours we were there we received several donations that went to our Christmas Fund. We received a renewal from Larry Gregory-thanks for your support of ABATE!. Bonnie Brunson sold some of the ABATE prod-ucts also. Overall a good event with good results.
Upcoming events include the State Board Meeting on August 17, all members are welcome to attend and see how things are run at the state level.

The Korean War Memorial in Washing-ton D.C. has carved in it the famous words Freedom Is Not Free. These words are very true for the freedom to ride our motorcycles are not gained without some sacrifice, whether it be our time, or our money and resources. Some are motivated to give much, some a little, but all contri-butions to the fight for our freedom to ride what and how we choose are im-portant! The strength of ABATE is in our members. All members count, and that is where ABATE needs help. State wide the number of our members has been in de-cline. Whether through apathy or simply too busy, or perhaps it is that ABATE is simply so successful in the work to pro-tect the riders of Illinois that many simply do not see the need to join or maintain your membership. Without members our great organization will fade away and slowly, like a leaking bucket, our free-doms will be taken away. Working in the legislative arena day by day, there are always bills that are introduced that try to chip away at the freedoms we enjoy. Re-cent examples are decibel limits on pipes (loud pipes) and restrictions on Kevlar
used in some protective gear such as jack-ets. These might seem small but like that leaking bucket it will eventually be emp-ty, without ABATE of Illinois there to keep its finger over that hole!
The point is keep a membership applica-tion with you, throw a few in your bags or the jacket pocket ask a fellow rider if he or she is a member. Sign up a friend or family member. Every member counts!

old age, I prefer the cool weather over
the hot when riding and hope I get to
enjoy a lot of it.
School has back in session for a couple
weeks. I look forward to getting back
into high schools drivers education clas-
ses and talk about sharing the road with
motorcycles. I can always use the com-
pany and help. I would like to show oth-
ers how I do the presentations… I may
not be around forever but the awareness
program should.

Feel free to contact them with your ideas
and to offer your help. I am sure they
would enjoy having you work with them
and possibly taking a position. One can
learn from the current officers and reps
and can also learn about the different
positions during the State Seminar in
January.
Our monthly meetings are held the sec-
ond Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. at
the Sit-n-Sip in Shelbyville. The July
meeting was led by our VP Ed Storm.
He did a great job standing in for Larry
(Hawkeye) who had just had surgery.
Larry was back in charge at our August
meeting. He is healing fantastically and
his leg looks better than it has in over a
year and a half. We are so glad to see
that!
Come out and help direct and grow the
chapter. We hope to see you on Septem-
ber 14th. The weather should be very
comfortable by then so let’s get a few
more bikes at the meeting and perhaps
take a little ride around the Lake or
countryside afterwards.
Some other things to consider doing: if
you get your paper by August 23rd or
24th neighbors to the west, Shoal Creek,
is having their Summer Bash at the
Montgomery County Fairgrounds at But-
ler. I hear they have the best parties.
Also on Saturday, August 24th, is a ride
of our neighbors to the east, Liberty.
You will need to contact then or look at
their Facebook page or website for de-
tails. All I know is it is called the 36
Saloon Ride and they ride on Route 36
to 36 Saloon for a day of enjoyment, a
fun ride and fun time.
On Saturday, August 31st there is the
“Willie Ride”. It is not an ABATE func-
tion but is in honor of an Old River
member, Willie McDonald. Sign up is at
10 a.m. at the Sit-n-Sip.
The Liberty Bash in on September 13,
14, & 15 at the Moultrie County 4H
grounds. It will be a good time. Friday
evening will probably be spent sitting
around a fire. On Saturday there will be
a DJ, a girls bikini bike wash, possibly a
brunch bike run and more.
The Meeting of the Minds will be held in
Minnesota this year on September 18th -
22nd.
And mark your calendar to help out on
Saturday, October 5th with the Old River
Cook-out at Wades. Please help promote
it too. Tell all your family and friends
and anybody you know that eats because
we want to sell a lot of delicious food to
help fund our Chapter and the various
programs we participate in.
And I must share old information that I
just received, long time member, Dave
Baumgarten, passed away on June 19th.
You may know him as the Stewardson
Police Officer… a heck of a nice guy.
He had a long, hard ride the past few
years. RIP Bummy.
Thank you for reading my blurb. Feel
free to let me know what to include in
future articles.
Get your knees in the breeze, and be
safe out there!

SEPTEMBER 2019 ABATE OF ILLINOIS, INC. NEWS 14
We had our Au-gust 8th meeting at TR's Place in Belle-ville with twenty members present. That's on the heels of our July meeting where only six of us showed up. We had to cancel it but that always happens in the summer months so we expect that once in a while. Thunder brought the meeting to order with the Pledge and a moment of silence for our lost brothers and sisters. Ed had a few opening state-ments about the upcoming chapter elec-tion and how we need some new blood to step forward. We took care of a lot of business with the Treasure Theresa. She wrote $76 check to the Freeburg Post office for another year renewal on PO
box 235, a check to ABATE of IL for $120 for liability insurance and a two checks to pay for the newsletter and stamps totaling $162.33 for the com-bined July/August chapter newsletter. We approved Michelle's Minutes from the June meeting and discussed sending amended minutes to the ABATE state newspaper every month so we have something in here. Andy's PR depart-ment has been out and about at various rides promoting our organization. Andy and myself attended the American Le-gion To Legion ride and picked up two new members. Andy continues to do the Fun Run the first Sunday of the month starting at TR's at noon. Renie says our numbers in the chapter are staying pret-ty stable so that is good. If you sign up
five members we pay for your ABATE renewal. So far Randy Huck and myself have hit it. I believe Michelle Hum-mert is going to get one also. Rich's S&E continues to get into the schools putting on the Share The Road class to the Drivers Ed students. He just got into Mater Dei Catholic High School in Breeze for the first time, that is very cool. Larry Pelker from Backroads chapter hits a lot of the schools in our area also. Them two guys do a great job with that and we all should thank them when you see them. I had nothing new for the legislative report so whatever is in the state paper is it. Wayne reported on the other chapters in his Southwest Region Report. Alex reported for Activ-ities that he will purchase a Henry Rifle
and a shotgun for the Gun Raffle. We will start selling the tickets at the Free-burg Chili Cook-off at our booth. We always have a very popular booth with our no-nonsense chili, our basket of booze raffle that day, gun tickets, and T-Shirts. The Chili Cook-off is on Sep-tember 28th. Michelle won our Half & Half drawing for the third time this year and Andy won the membership drawing with a $75 pot. We will start it again next month with a $20 and add five bucks to it at every meeting.
That's what's going on in a nutshell with our chapter. Keep the rubber side down and enjoy the rest of the summer.
Mike Gallagher
Hello Free-dom Fighters!
Here it is September already. I hope eve-ryone that went had a fun and safe trip to Sturgis and back. Officer Nominations are starting for 2020 officers, which gives all of ABATE members the opportunity to step up for their chapter to help with the never ending fight for motorcycle rights. If I can do it, anyone can. I was the guy who always sat in the corner, listening, and once in a while I would throw my opinion out there. Good, Bad, or indifferent, I am now the president
keeping our chapter informed. So, don't hang your head and think that you could never be an officer. Just communicate with your chapter members, listen to their concerns about profiling, and other issues that we all have. By volunteering, you can help make your chapter stronger.
Something I always preach about, is mo-torcycle safety and awareness. Too many of our friends have had accidents due to left turns, grass on the road, and many other simple things that could be avoided. Going into harvest season again, we are going to start seeing farm implements everywhere. So, Beware. You know, corn shucks blown on the road are just as dan-
gerous as the grass clippings on the pave-ment. To report debris on the roadway, start calling IDOT/State Police if on a state route. Call your County Sheriff for areas in the country. Call the City police department for inside city limits. You can get this problem taken care of and possi-bly save a life. The month of September ends Piasa Gateway's Shake ur Bones Run. The stops close on September 3rd, with a party to follow on September 21st. So, bring a side dish, your Shake ur Bones books, enjoy some music, friends, and food. September 14th will be the last opportunity to get your bonus points for making a Chapter meeting. That is the last meeting before the party, so come
out, get your book stamped, and see what we are all about.
The annual "Meeting of the Minds" will be held on September 19 at Bloomington Minnesota. It would be great if you could take the time to make this event, and bring the information back to your chap-ter.
Till next time, keep the shiny side up. Ride Safe Ride Smart
Gene Ely, President
Our schedule for the chapter meetings has changed. For the next four months we will be holding it in the same place. It still will be on a Thursday night at 7 p.m.. we will be holding our meetings at the lantern Pub in Ashley as follows. Sep-
tember 5th, October 3rd, November 7th and December 5th.
We would like to thank each and every-one who came out and supported our 4th Annual Members Memorial Ride. Even though it was hot we had a good turnout and everybody was enjoying themselves.
And a big shout-out to all the sponsors that made this ride possible we could not do it without you thank you very much.
Make sure you check her Facebook page for any and all information.
Not much going on right now.
School is back in session so please watch out for the buses and our little students.
