ABB Flexible Automation

The line of robotic machining centers produced by ABB Flexible Automation have been developed specifically to solve virtually any task within deflashing, deburring and grinding applications. They are truly modular in design and can be used with all standard ABB robots. The robot can either pick up the workpiece or it can hold the tool. Two basic solutions are available. One is a very economical modular robot machining center with robots IRB 1400 & IRB 2400 designed for drop shipment at the customer and the second is a universal solution for all robot sizes to suit all customer needs.All the tools have been specifically designed for use with robots, taking into account workpiece and flash tolerances.The universal robotic machining systems are a modular concept combining base-modules, special robot-tools and logistic modules to create a truly powerful and universal concept. It can be used equally well for tasks where the robot picks up the workpiece and guides it along the edges to be deburred or where the robot carries the tools and guides them along the edges on the work-piece. The systems can be combined with most logistic modules or driven workpiece carriers used as an additional robot axis.The systems can be equally well adapted for heavy deflashing tasks on aluminium sand-castings and low-pressure diecastings using band saws for de-gating and high powered spindles and chipping hammers for the flashes, as well as for very delicate deburring and rounding tasks on aircraft parts or the grinding of knife handles and surgical parts.The systems consist principally of a base frame with the robot and the special tools, fixed on tool stands mounted on the base frame. The workpieces are fed into the working range of the robot by a roller conveyor or an indexing table. The base frame, robot and tools form a transportable unit and minimize assembly and programming time at the customers.

RoboClean- Customized deflashing/deburring systems

A typical set of tools for such an application is a high powered electrical spindle with surround flexibility for the heavy flashes, a smaller air powered spindle as well with surround flexibility for more delicate edges, a flexible chisel tool and some dedicated milling or filing tools if required.
