Long Lasting. Energy Efficient. BeautifuI.

Both metal and asphalt roofing get the job done when it comes to sheltering a building, but they really part ways in respect to durability, energy efficiency, and long-term savings. On the surface, an asphalt shingle roof is the slim winner at $1,289 versus $1,292 for an ABM Panel metal roof (Includes tax, but does not include labor). But if you look at the bigger picture, metal is the obvious choice. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association states on their website, “If a residential roof is more than 20 years old, it is a prime candidate for reroofing.” Compare that to our ABM Panel that comes with a 40-year paint warranty.

There is no question that a metal roof can stand the test of time better than asphalt shingles in most situations, and contractors will tell you that there is very little keeping a properly maintained metal roof from lasting over 100 years (especially if it is a hidden fastener panel like our ABSeam Panel).

Metal lasts longer, is more energy efficient, is more beautiful, and can cost about the same as asphalt shingles.

The cost will be affected by the complexity of the roof. If it is a simple roof with few or no valleys, metal panels may be significantly cheaper and faster to install than asphalt shingles (including labor). But, if the roof is more complex with several valleys and peaks, asphalt shingles are going to install faster and cost less in labor than metal panels, though the material costs might still be about the same. That said, it is still hard to beat the long-term savings of a metal roof.

Asphalt Shingles?Isn’t a metal roof more expensive than

If you have ever been in an attic or crawl space in the middle of a summer day, you know what it feels like to be in an oven. The sun is beating down with all its force onto your asphalt shingle roof. Some of the heat is reflected, but the rest is absorbed through the roof into the air space and building below. The nature of the materials used, with even the lightest color asphalt shingles, results in only about 22% or less of the sun’s heat being reflected. That means 78% of the heat is being absorbed into the building below, and your HVAC system has to work extra hard to cool off the building and keep you comfortable. You can see how hard your system is working by looking at your energy

bill. Nobody likes to see their electric bill spike in the summer. Did you ever think about choosing a metal roof to save you money?

Meet the ABM Panel

The most popular metal panel from A.B. Martin Roofing Supply is by far the heavy-duty and long-lasting ABM Panel. This specially-coated panel reflects as much as 83% of the sun’s energy from the roof, resulting in a cooler building, more energy savings, and greater comfort.

The reflectivity level varies across all 25 of our Cool Roof colors, varying from Dark Blue (13% reflective) to Bright White (83% reflective), but averaging at 44% reflective which is twice as reflective as asphalt shingles. Metal roofs can be about 100 degrees cooler on the surface than traditional shingle roofs.

And since the ABM Panel comes with a 40-year warranty, you can enjoy your energy savings for a long time to come.

Our most popular metal panel is by far the heavy-duty and long-lasting ABM Panel. This specially coated panel reflects as much as 83% of the sun’s energy away from the roof, resulting in a cooler building in summer, more energy savings, and greater comfort. Available in 25 ENERGY STAR rated colors with 40-year paint warranties.

Metal coils are first heated (this significantly reduces microscopic paint cracking and crazing when the ribs are formed which helps to prevent red rust), and then the metal is cut with great precision on our flying sheer. Next the sheets enter a series of roll formers that shape the metal into our unique profile. The finished panels are then stacked and packaged for shipment.

Common Applications Agricultural, Residential, and Commercial Roofing & SidingKey Features

• Premium 28ga. Steel: Premium 28ga. steel measured before paint (also available in the heavier 26ga. steel)

• Heavy Zinc Coatings: More Zinc means more rust protection

• Excellent Paint Bond: Premium G-100 - Zinc Phosphate makes for a strong paint bond and better corrosion protection

• Paint Warranties: Premium G-100 comes with a 40-year Valspar paint warranty + 10-year edge-rust warranty

• Heat-Formed Panels: Practically eliminates the first point of failure by reducing the microscopic paint cracking that allows rust

• Large Minor Ribs: Strengthens panel and improves looks

• Energy Efficient: Metal panels reduce heat transfer resulting in less heat penetration in summer and less heat loss in winter

• Recyclable: Panels are 100% recyclable after a long and useful life

PBR Panel

The PBR panel performs superbly on roof pitches as low as 1:12 and on spans up to 4’ for 26ga. metal, and up to 5’ spans for 24ga. metal. For roof applications, our PBR panel provides extra support at the lap. Sealant tape and stitch screws are required for improved leak resistance. PBR panel is used mostly for steel frame buildings but can also be used on wood-framed buildings.

Common Applications Commercial Roofing & SidingKey Features

• Rib Size: 1.25” high, 1” wide at the top, and 3” wide at the base• Heavy Gauge: Made with 24ga. or 26ga. galvalume steel• Warranty: 40-year limited paint warranty• Energy Efficient: Metal panels reduce heat transfer resulting in less

heat penetration in summer and less heat loss in winter• Recyclable: Panels are 100% recyclable after a long and useful life

Our durable 24ga. ABSeam Panel is the ultimate choice for a beautiful, long-lasting roof for residential, commercial, agricultural, and equestrian buildings. No screws or punctures are visible or exposed to the elements (less opportunity for leaks) thanks to the ABSeam clip system or the optional nailing fin. This panel is a popular choice with new construction and restoration projects nationwide.

Common Applications Agricultural, Residential, and Commercial RoofingKey Features

• Rib Height: Comes standard with 1.5” ribs. It can be customized to a 1” high rib• Heavy Gauge: Made with 24ga. galvanized steel (also available in galvalume steel)• Warranty: The prepainted Kynar finish has a 40-year limited paint warranty• Energy Efficient: Metal panels reduce heat transfer resulting in less heat

1. Heat Forming: Painted metal is preheated to reduce paint crazing on the outside radius during the roll-forming process.2. All panels are imprinted on the underlap of the panel with Order Number, Material Grade, Part ID, and Panel Length for customer assurance and warranty information.3. Most warranties apply only to the paint finish and not to the underlying steel panel. Our G-100 and Standard metal panel both carry the same paint warranty because they have the same paint finish. This does not mean the overall performance will still be the same. The AZ50 Galvalume (aluminum/zinc alloy-coated) panels carry a 20-year limited substrate warranty.

A.B. Martin Roofing can trace its history back to a small beginning in 1947 when Amos B. Martin began selling metal roofing to his Lancaster, PA neighbors for their chicken

houses. Almost 70 years later (and more than 1.5 million feet of metal that is cladding farms, business, and homes), the 2nd and 3rd generations are supplying our customers

with the highest quality lumber, insulation, fasteners, building materials, and of course metal roofing and siding.

Serving Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the surrounding states.

Serving builders with quality post frame building materials, metal roofing & siding, and complete custom pole barn kits. Everything you need from lumber to posts, trusses, horse stall components, doors & windows, metal roofing, insulation, and snow guards.

Our large inventory combined with our professional sales team and versatile truck fleet have given us a reputation for excellent service and unprecedented order turnarounds.

In a recent private survey, a majority of our customers said that the quality was what they loved most about our products, followed by availability and price. That just cements our goal of stocking the highest quality building

supplies at competitive prices.
