About Salina Public Library & CLASS
The mission of Salina Public Library’s Community
Learning And Skill Sharing program (CLASS) is to create
courses and workshops that promote personal growth and
build community. This community-based program is the
perfect choice if you are curious about a subject, open to
trying new things or have a need for information on specific
topics.
Course Size
All of our courses are self-supported and require a minimum
number of participants. This number varies depending on
type of course, instructor and course site. In the case of
insufficient enrollment, participants will be contacted and
issued a refund.
Liability Release
CLASS has implemented a liability release for all of our
courses. We ask that you agree to the release during the
registration process, either online or in-person. The form is
available for your review on the CLASS webpage. We
encourage you to read through it and let us know if you have
any questions or concerns.

Thanks for joining Salina Public Library in
continuing lifelong learning during the
summer. I am excited to continually find
unique learning opportunities, presented by
members of our local community. I hope you
will find something new and fun to spend
some time with during this season.

How to Register
Online
www.salinapubliclibrary.org - Fast, easy, secure!
Register yourself (or surprise a friend!) with your credit/debit
card (Visa or MasterCard) to secure your spot. You will
receive an automatic email confirmation.
In Person
Bring your payment to the Community Learning Center
Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. In person, you may pay with cash,
check or credit card to secure your spot.
Drop box
You may leave your registration in the secure drop box at the
front of the Community Learning Center after hours.
Registrations will be processed each morning.

Credits & Refunds
A 100% refund will be issued if you cancel your enrollment in
a course at least one week before the class begins or if the
class is cancelled by the library, unless otherwise stated.
Refunds will not be issued for non-attendance or after a
course has started. Refunds may require up to 10 days to
process. CLASS credit may also be given on your account for
a future class. If a course is cancelled due to inclement
weather, every effort will be made to reschedule.

Evening Yoga Balance and center yourself
with an evening yoga asana
class. Build a strong foun-
dation in body awareness
and alignment by allowing
yourself to explore your own
personal experience of yoga
through inner focus and
surrender. Creative hatha
and vinyasa make this class
great for beginning to inter-
mediate levels. Poses can be
modified to make your yoga
practice rewarding. Wear
comfortable clothing and
bring a yoga mat.

Know What You Grow
Home gardeners and fresh food enthusiasts are often
confused about seeds varieties. Learn the differences
between hybrid, heirloom, GMO and GEO in the
garden. Is a hybrid plant the same as a genetically
modified plant or a genetically engineered plant?
Are there any downsides to growing an open-
pollinated heirloom variety? We will discuss these
questions and more during this one-time class.

Instructor Jason Graves studied horticulture at Kansas
State University, and his degree is in Landscape and
Turf Management. He worked in the plant health field
for several years before taking his current position as
Horticulture Extension Agent for the Central Kansas

Historic Walking Tour
Businessmen, brothels and
bones - oh my! Learn about
these and more as you ex-
plore historic downtown Sa-
lina. Learn about the people
who built our city and the
shenanigans they got into,
including the first stockade,
the “great Christmas fire,”
and the accident that took
the life of our first paid fire
chief. Enjoy the stories and
history you discover during
this five- to six-block
walking tour.

Instructor John Burchill is an associate professor of criminal justice at Kansas Wesleyan University, a member of the Kansas Humanities Council Speak-ers Bureau, historian and popular presenter at Smoky Hill Museum and other area locations. He is also the au-thor of Bullets, Badges & Bri-dles, a book about horse thieves and the societies that chased them.

basic understanding of the
language of the Deaf in the
United States and Canada.
Basic sentence structure,
friendly conversation and a
little history on the language
will round out our studies.

more than 20 years. She
primarily does stamping as
a hobby, but enjoys hosting
classes and workshops to
share her love of the craft
with others. She has been
demonstrating card making
and crafts since 2005.
Central European
Cuisine
Cooking styles in Central
European countries, like
Austria, Hungary, Slovakia
and Czech Republic, are
very similar. This course
will take you on a delicious
tour of Kamila’s favorite
Central European comfort
food. You will learn how to
make Vienna schnitzel from
scratch, which is tradition-
ally served with potato salad
or baked potatoes. Simple
cucumber salad is a must.
To finish, discover how easy
it is to make an apple
strudel, one of the most
popular and oldest Central
European desserts.

France, Italy and the United
States. Dry rosé in its best
form combines the
freshness and drinkability of
a white wine with the fruit

growing demographic in the
wine world and taste one of
the wine world’s best kept
secrets … rosé! Participants
must be at least 21 years of

An Ale of a Good Time Taste and evaluate various
styles from around the
