WORLD WAR I UNIT PLAN
Abstract
This unit plan deals with teaching a unit on World War I to a group of high school seniors from
small-town West Virginia. Many different forms of technology are utilized in this instruction including
Powerpoints, Blogger, Wikispaces, Youtube, Podcasts, Facebook, Robots, etc. Not only are they being
taught about the history of World War I, my students also must undergo the task of a group project in
which they create and present a robot and a poster with a World War I theme. This week-long
assignment requires research, communication skills, critical thinking, hands-on work, creativity, audio
and visual learning, and participation in class discussions and homework assignments. Ultimately, my
students will be able to recite key information about the history of World War I with a high degree of
accuracy and be able to successfully apply technologies utilized both in and out of the classroom.
