What is Performance Improvement Continuing Medical Education
(PI CME)?
• A ‘long-term’ three-stage (A,B,C) process:– Learn about specific performance measures and
assess practice behavior based on selected measures– Implement interventions to improve performance– Reassess practice using the same measures
• Involves active participation of physicians and other team members
• Option to complete one, two or three stages

Be sure that each PDSA cycle includes: •A minimum of 10 charts for each CME applicant •New and/or existing asthmatics seen over past 30 days•Data collection on 3 of measures listed in CME application•Chart reviews over 6-month timespan if more than 1 PDSA cycle
