WELCOME to our new and improved course guide.

In this issue you will find course information from all our colleges in one handy guide, giving you more choice about what, when and where you study.

A few highlights over the last few months, and some previews of what’s coming up...

Traineeships are a popular way of obtaining a qualification whilst working and in the last 6 months we have assisted over 120 trainees, with over 30% already completing their qualifications. With various new incentive streams available to both trainees and employers, a traineeship is a very attractive option for staff training – ask your nearest college for details.

Our new training rooms in Lismore opened in May. These are in addition to our existing training rooms and are equipped with the latest in training equipment. They, like all our training rooms, are also available for hire.

Sustainability is still high on our agenda, and to complement our existing suite of courses, we will be running some FREE workshops later in the year focused on food waste avoidance. These promise to be practical and informative lessons, so keep an eye on our website and see page 28 for more details.

Our college in Burleigh Heads is proving popular with the Gold Coast community, with an excellent range of short business courses as well as full qualifications available.

Our Aboriginal Driver Training Program has been delivering driver training to Aboriginal people for the last 6 years in Lismore, Ballina, Casino and Kyogle. We are pleased that we can now expand this program to include Byron Bay and Woodenbong.

Our course offering in Casino is also expanding with a more comprehensive suite of business courses. Most courses will be taking place at the new Cultural Centre in Walker Street, giving the local community more choice.

Enrolling with ACE is easy. Simply go to our website, visit one of our colleges, call us or post/fax the enrolment form included in this course guide to us.

FACE-TO-FACE Probably the most popular form of training. We provide face to face training anywhere we have enough students wanting to learn in the same place at the same time. That may be at your workplace, a suitable venue close by, or within easy reach of where you live.

FLEXIBLE DELIvERY Some of our courses incorporate a range of delivery modes. Dependent on the course, classroom delivery may be supported by online forum, while distance learning may be supported by weekly or monthly workshops and email contact with the trainer. You may also have the option of doing your course entirely by distance rather than by classroom attendance. Contact your local college for details of course options.

ONLINE If you have access to the internet, you have access to our online programs. They’re easy to use, innovative and most of all a lot of fun. Online options allow you to study at your own pace with access to your own personal trainer/assessor to support you through your study program.

RECOGNITION OF pRIOR LEARNING (RpL) “I already have qualifications and/or experience in this field…”Before commencing your course with ACE Community Colleges you may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or a Credit Transfer from another institution. The RPL process allows you to apply for credit for previous study, work and/or life experience that match the learning outcomes of specific units within your course. This could save you from having to study what you already know.To gain recognition however you will have to provide evidence demonstrating that your prior learning is valid, sufficient, authentic and current under the Australian Qualifications Framework.

TRAINEEShIpS A traineeship is nationally accredited training that is usually delivered in the workplace. The training is specifically tailored to suit the workplace and the trainee and allows the trainee to earn while they learn. A traineeship can be full-time, part-time or school-based* enabling the student to enter the workforce and train towards gaining a nationally recognised qualification whilst working or completing their secondary school studies.

LOvE FOOD hATE WASTE FREE! ‘hOW TO’ WORkShOpS NEW!

Amazingly, every household in NSW wastes an average of $1,000 worth of still edible food each year! Funded by the NSW Government, this workshop is run by well known ‘Farm to Fork’ chef, recipe writer and sustainability food consultant Alison Drover and aims to encourage householders to cut down on food waste. Alison is passionate about cooking delicious meals using leftover ingredients. “Food is wasted because we buy too much, cook too much, don’t store food correctly and don’t use leftovers” says Alison. She provides simple, practical advice on how to reduce your weekly shop and will have you cooking up delicious meals from ingredients lingering in the fridge or cupboard. She will give hands on cooking demonstrations and there will be plenty of delicious food to sample. All participants will be encouraged to participate in an online blog dedicated to sharing recipes for using leftovers, swapping food and other ideas for saving on food wastage.

Completing my Certificate IV in Financial Services and Bookkeeping helped me progress in my career. I gained practical skills and knowledge from highly experienced trainers who really cared. I enjoyed learning in a friendly, relaxed, adult environment. I would recommend doing a flexible learning course through ACE to expand your skills in the workplace, it was so easy.

Danielle Sheaffe

I did the Certificate III in Community Services with ACE and my trainer was the best. She explained everything in a way that everyone understood - everyone felt included. This course changed my life - I am now working full time as a youth worker and mentor and am their first full time aboriginal employee. It was the first time I actually enjoyed education and it was great to be able to move on to bigger and better things.
