FROM THE DIRECTOR

CELEBRATING 10 YEARS OF LIFELONG LEARN-It is difficult to believe that 2016 marks a decade for Bentonville Public Library at 405 South Main Street. It seems like

just yesterday we were celebrating our grand opening with children, teens, families and adults participating in a

“parade of books” from the Massey Hotel down Main Street. The event was our patrons’ first opportunity to see the

new library, and it was a joyous occasion! Kids filled wagons with their favorite books as we marched with music

down the street. That day is my most fond memory!

In 2016, we honored the Library’s history, celebrated its role in the community and began new traditions. We

unveiled a commemorative library card that was custom-created for BPL; we offered special events for our patrons,

such as a free pancake breakfast; and we announced Inaugural Library Service Award winners. Additionally, BPL

reached new milestones with record numbers for library visits, checkouts, program attendance, digital access to

library resources, meeting room use, summer reading participation and volunteerism!

I am especially proud of the library team! We firmly believe that libraries empower individuals, strengthen families

and build communities. We are honored to be a part of our patrons’ lives. I am privileged to work alongside an

awesome group of professionals who enjoy public service.

One of the library’s advocates and a charter board member of the Bentonville Library Foundation, Mary Baggett,

sums it up nicely: “Not enough can be said about the value of our library. Bentonville Public Library is the face of our

city; it is the life of our community. I am so proud of our beautiful facility, our fine staff and wonderful services the

library provides for everyone.”

It is through the generosity and support of our collective community: donors,

volunteers, stakeholders and patrons – past, present and future – that our

library thrives. Thank you for ten years, and beyond, of wonderful!
