September Start Dates

• Our learning journals will be an on-line system that allows observations of children to be recorded digitally.

• Each child will have their own individual learning journal account which only their parents/carers will be able to access.

• As a parent/carer, you will have the option to make comments on the observations as well as being able to upload your own photographs/videos of your child outside of school.

• The observations will be of both child initiated and adult led activities. These observations on the learning journals will also be assessed against the statements from Development Matters.

Learning Journals

There are seven areas of learning and development that shape education in early years. They are all important and inter-connected and are split into:

Learning and Development

Three Prime Areas

Literacy Mathematics Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

Development in the three prime areas are the basis for successful learning in the four specific areas.

Four Specific Areas

• Regular communication with parents is key – talk to us, address with any issue early

• See what the children are up to on our Facebook and Twitter pages

• Two Parents’ Evenings are planned during the year to discuss your child’s progress

• Open Classrooms – a chance for your child to share their work with you

• A written mid-year report will be sent home which will report effort and progress

• A written end of year report will be sent home which will report effort, progress and attainment

Communication

Work hard, be kind.

Manners Curriculum Each week we have a manners focus, as part of our curriculum,

which develops a different social skill.

Behaviour Expectations

At the start of their school journey, it is extremely important that children are aware of the behaviours expected when in school.

Clear boundaries are set out in the EYFS so that children feel secure and safe and are able to develop a sense of justice and fairness.

Through clear rules and routines, children are supported to manage their feelings and behaviour, developing their self-confidence and self-awareness

Behaviour Expectations

• Displayed in the classroom.

• A visual and fluid system that encourages children to monitor and regulate their behaviour choices.

• Creating children who are confident and independent learners.

• Children start the day ‘Ready to Learn’ on the sunshine and move up to the rainbow for making positive behaviour choices.

• A child’s name is moved to the rain cloud for making negative behaviour choices.

• The children are able to enjoy a number of rewards for positive choices and consequences are made clear for poor choices.

Behaviour - Choices Chart

• Daily rewards for good behaviour and attitude towards learning – recognised through ‘Choices Chart’ – stickers, certificates

• Activity Time – 20 minutes every Friday afternoon

• Reading Rocket Race – class competition linked to home reading

• Weekly ‘Super Star’ and ‘Marvellous Manners’ awards – given out every Friday in assembly to reward achievements across the curriculum, learning behaviours, social skills
