Darden-LEAD Summer Business Institute

Leadership Education and Development Program (LEAD), a nation organization whose mission is to enable youth of diverse backgrounds to convert High Potential into High Achievement and Responsible Leadership.

Each year the Darden-LEAD Summer Business Institute trains promising high school students from under-represented communities in the basics of management and entrepreneurship.

These students are chosen from among the top academic schools in their region and come from as far away as San Juan, P. R. and Anchorage, AK.

Match bright rising Juniors in Albemarle County schools with rising Seniors from around the nation.

We were particularly eager to identify and capture local students who will become the first person in their family to attend a college or university.

 20 students applied and 12 students attended the Escalante LEADership Camp

  College application and scholarship advice from UVA staff.

Lectures on management and entrepreneurship by Darden faculty.

Mentorship pairing program between local students and LEADers.

Arnold Crummie has applied for this summer’s Leadership Education and Development Program (LEAD) in Stanford.

Alicia Garza was offered a full scholarship at JMU to study nursing as a consequence of the Daily Progress article.
