Linking verbs act as equal signs.

The children were happy.

The children = happy.

We need some action!

Any verb that is not a “being verb” (linking verb) is an action verb.

If a verb does not act as an equal sign in the sentence, it is an action verb.

Examples

Tom kicked the ball with all his might.

The students wrote quickly to complete their test on time.

Anna screamed at me for eating up all the ice cream.

Some action verbs do not look energetic

I believe that my hard work will pay off one day.

Mary thought about the problem the whole day.

Please do not daydream in class.

I have rested enough.
