Do not fear, only believe. Mark 5.21-43

Youth Group starting September 2015 St. Mark's is excited to announce the start of a "youth group" in September 2015. The youth group will be taking part in outings, events, activities and fundraising. These activities will range from bowling, biking, homework club, games club, drama club, Bible studies, faith fashion, potlucks, pie making and so much more! If you have a child 10 to 17 years of age who would be interested in being part of St. Mark's youth group ask for a registration form at the Church or e-mail the committee at [email protected] for additional information.

The Diagram which appears in the Sunday Bulletin At her session with the parish on June 11, Dr. Carol Kuzmochka brought attention to a diagram which appears inside our parish bulletin. We see that diagram every week, probably without paying attention to it. But it is really a picture of parish life. Since earliest days, church communities have been made up of four very important aspects, known as liturgy (leitourgia/doxologia), fellowship (koinonia), proclamation/ teaching (kerygma), and service (diakonia). The Acts of the Apostles 2:42 describes how this was the case in the earliest Church: “They remained faithful to the teachings of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of the bread and to the prayers.” That is the mission, the task of every parish community if it wants to be known as the Church of Jesus Christ.

At St. Mark’s, these “four poles of parish life” also give shape to how we organize the various ministries in the parish. For example, on the back of the bulletin, you will find a list of the many ministries which make up the life of the community, divided along these four poles of parish life.

These four areas of activities are not neatly separated compartments where each can do its own thing. They are dependent on each other, they feed each other, they interact with each other, they need each other. They need to work collaboratively. As Dr. Kuzmochka’s work with the parish draws to a close at the end of June, we continue to work together to strengthen these four poles of parish life and to ensure that they continue to work well together so that our parish community can continue to bear witness to the Gospel.

Adults wanting to be baptized or confirmed Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist are known as the sacraments of initiation. We usually associate these sacraments (which include First Communion) with children. Increasingly in our society, older teenagers and adults are realizing that they have been baptized, but have not celebrated any other sacraments. Or that they have made their First Communion, but not been confirmed. This is quite commonplace today, and provides us with an opportunity to journey with adults who wish to be confirmed and join the community at the Eucharistic table. Together, we prepare for these sacraments in an adult way, respecting the life experience and faith journey of each person. Would you like to be baptized? Would you like to be confirmed? Would you like to journey with other adults who are preparing for these sacraments? If so, please contact our pastoral associate, Julie Cool, by e-mail ([email protected]) or by leaving a message at the parish office at (819) 684-6926. 4th Annual Archbishop Open The fourth edition of the Archbishop Open will be held on Thursday, September 10th at the Kingsway Park Golf Club. As usual, all the benefits generated by this event will be redistributed among the community groups of the archdiocese. For further information or to register, please visit the Diocesan website at: https://www.imakeanonlinedonation.org/diocesegatineau/frm_detail.php?FrmUID=17. Or you may contact the office at (819) 771-8391 and speak with Lise Rochette (ext. 234) or Daniel Dezainde (ext. 226). 141st Annual Pilgrimage To the Shrines of Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré and Cap-de-la-Madeleine from the Arch (dioceses) of Ottawa, Gatineau, Pembroke, Mont-Laurier and Alexandria/Cornwall on August 8-9. The weekend Celebrant is Bishop Marcelle Damphousse, Bishop of the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall. Information & reservations contact Mike Budge 613-224-8110. Space is limited. Info: www.ste-anne-de-beaupre.com.

A warm welcome to new parishioners! Welcome to those who want to make their faith-home here with us. You may be new to Aylmer, or you may have been away for a while. Be assured that we love to have you among us! We would appreciate it if you introduced yourself to one of our hospitality ministers, or to Father Dan. It would also help if you could take the time to fill out a registration form, which you can get from a hospitality minister. The next time you are with us, you can drop off the registration form in the collection basket; give it to one of the hospitality ministers or to the priest. Why should I register as a parishioner? All parishioners are encouraged to register. This enables us to send mailings concerning activities at the parish. Registered parishioners are also contacted to help us in the activities which allow us to reach out to our community. For example, they receive a phone call a few times per year to donate sandwiches so that we can provide a lunch to families who have requested a funeral at St. Mark’s. Finally, being a registered parishioner allows you to get envelopes for the collection, which allows you to then get an income tax receipt. All good reasons to take the few minutes required to pick up a registration form at the entrance and to fill it out!

Check out our Web site! Follow us on Twitter! We have a Web site which is regularly updated with information about Mass times, sacramental preparation, and special events. We invite you to visit our Web site at stmarksaylmer.ca. If you want updates e-mailed to you, you can enter your e-mail address in “Follow blog via e-mail” in the top right hand corner. You can also follow us on Twitter @stmarksaylmer. Happy browsing!
