Seminars We organized the series of seminars with eminent foreign and Armenian scientists during

2015, in order to make Optics and Photonics more popular, to make science more

interesting and to answer actual questions that arise for students. Seminars were

conducted by popular lecturers from scientific and industrial centers of Armenia and other

countries, and our chapter members. As always the topics of seminars included various fields of science,

optics, astrophysics. Some seminars were unique and were met very enthusiastic and attracted participants

of various specialties.

1. Prof. Alexandre Soares Leal Nuclear Technology Development Center (CDTN),

Belo Horizonte, Brazil

“New Applications of Research Nuclear

Reactor TRIGA IPR-R1 Mark 1”

2. YSU&NAS SPIE student chapter member Hrach Toneyan

“Nonlinear- dispersive similariton

for ultrafast photonics ”

Visit to the ANEL Research laboratory

We organized lab tour to the ANEL Research

Laboratory for bachelor, master and PhD Students from

Yerevan State University, Institute for Physical Research of

NAS RA and Russian- Armenian (Slavonic) University of

Armenia. The program was aimed to give an opportunity to

students to learn more about experimental culture and

technique. These events are motivating and inspiring

students to improve their knowledge on physics and get

acquainted with the research of ANEL more closely.

Officially the ANEL (Armenian National

Engineering Laboratories) was founded on September 2,

2013 by Enterprise Incubator Foundation (EIF), RA

Government, United States Agency for International

Development (USAID) and State Engineering University of

Armenia.

The main goal of the Project is to meet the demand of the

engineering industry in quality specialists and graduates

educated on up-to-date technological base to confront the

employee shortage and to increase value-added and

innovativeness of Armenian high tech businesses, thus

increasing their international competitiveness.

The Big World of Physics

This activity becomes traditional which includes work with schoolchildren, to make Optics more interesting

and popular for them. Traditionally we were taking them to excursions to various University laboratories,

this year we have organized several activities.

1. “Physics is for all” At September 18-19 at Goris together with OSA Armenia chapter and IREX’s "Project Smile"

we’ve organized a class named “Physics is for all”. There was participating about 50 pupils and they

were shown to how interesting is physics and what would happen if there was no physics.

2. “Public Moon Watching”

Together with OSA Armenia chapter and Student Scientific Society of Yerevan State University

we’ve organized a public moon watching day. A telescope was put in near the Republic Square in

Yerevan and people could come and watch to the moon.
