Adding the finishing touchesInclude a colophon and indexAs you finalize the yearbook, remember to include a colophon to inform
readers how your book was produced and other details that make it special. Colophons
normally include the following information:
• The method the book was produced, including the types of computers, software,
camera equipment and photo programs used to complete the book
• The theme, why it was chosen and how it fits the year
• The type faces, description of paper styles and weights and cover specifications
• Number of copies printed, number of pages and printing company location
• Name of the sales professional and customer service representative
• Memberships in and awards from scholastic press associations
• Optional: Cost per copy, ad prices and other financial information you
plan to share publicly, staff list and policies
In addition to the colophon, the editors may want to include a letter
of appreciation to those who supported the staff. A complete index,
including all students, faculty, staff, advertisers, groups, sports teams
and academic areas adds depth to the coverage in the book.

As you finalize your book, make sure you include all the essentials that tie your book together and help readers understand how your book was created. The title page (page one of your book) should include the name of your school, complete address, school phone, website, name of your book, year, theme and volume number. It should be set in small type and feature photos that represent the theme. The contents contains all sections with theme-related titles and page numbers. It can be placed on the front endsheet or on page two or three. The colophon includes details about how the book was made. The index lists all people, events, organizations, teams and advertisers. Design the index in a style reflecting the theme page designs.

Special coverage ideasAdd a spring supplement
Consider adding a spring supplement to include events and activities that occur after your last deadline in March. Remember to design the parting page to complement the supplement’s cover. The supplement allows spring-delivered books to include prom, graduation and spring sports season results.
