Ok, don’t juge a book by its cover. This one might appear geeky but pass the visual aspect and the rest holds on pretty good ! Avalon is a Japanese/Polish collaboration (only for that it should be worth watching), a dreamy, melancholic, beautiful movie that runs on the frontier between our childhood and our adulthood. Oshii, the director, is well known for the “Gost in the shell” serie that STRONGLY inspired the Wachowski brothers for The Matrix. The soundtrack / opera by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra along with the Tokyo Pop Orchestra is unmissable.

No need to introduce this Uk band I guess. The track in itself is not bad, Coldplay-y, a bit of copy/paste with what they made before but still enjoyable.The music video is something else ... The band’s singer/guitarist Jonathan Higgs (calling himself humbly “Jon Everything”) directed the video. So we have a succession of clichés effects (ink drops on titles, fast cut edit coupled with symbolic elements shots (was “Requiem for a dream” twelve years ago or ...), black and white, high contrasted light with floating dust, archive footage ... name one you’ll have it) supposed to serve a strong message. “The song is about greed and wealth and I wanted a symbol for that” (says Mr. Everything) - unfortunaltly what I saw was almost only stroboscopic shots of you guys yelling and sweating. It actually made me not wanting to buy the track.

This one is amazing. The principle behind those videos (he made lots of them) is pretty simple, but God it works well ! It’s incredibly graphic and clever at the same time. Just imagine that, nicely shot with a Red camera -From what I got (everything is in japanese on his blog so ..) he is just a guy, not a director or anything related to the industry (hence the little kitty avatar from his blog), who likes driving ..

I think it’s really inspiring, contemplative and meditational (when you switch off the “I’m in an elevator in a fancy hotel in Bangkok” tune layed onto the video).
