- What do you hear? Listening for Strengths and Potential Coaching Points
- Slide 12
- Audiotape Coaching ProcessOne way to do it: Before meeting the learner, code the tape (if using a coding instrument); note strengths and potential coaching points. If first session, go over what the two of you will be listening for (i.e., spirit, direction/guiding, OARS, change talk, flow, etc.). Ask them to ID the target behavior and evoke learners perceptions of strengths. If not first tape, review goals from last session and evoke progress/thoughts.
- Slide 13
- Coaching Process (cont): Explain that you will listen together and either party may stop the tape periodically to discuss. While listening, be sure and reinforce/affirm the strengths and look for learning opportunities to use E-P-E for discovery and practice. Before ending the session, ask the learner to set 1-3 goals for further practice. Schedule next tape.
