Advantech has invested heavily in dedicated resources to develop the essential building blocks that enable the deployment of innovative and integrative video infrastructure solutions, including video acquisition, video transport, video processing and video distribution. The Advantech VEGA-2000 Series extends HEVC benefits to portable video solutions such as wireless broadcast cameras by creating an embedded streaming module that makes best use of limited 3G/4G or Wi-Fi uplinks bandwidth and local storage capacity. The VEGA-2000 rich I/O comes in an ultra-compact format with less than 5W power consumption that can be integrated into light acquisition and contribution solutions for global video coverage even in the most challenging scenarios.
Advantech's VEGA-6000 Series of fully integrated encoder appliances are compact and efficient platforms that enable 4K live video contribution in space and power constrained applications. The family supports the latest HEVC codec to optimize high resolution video transmission over satellite or mobile networks. In addition, the VEGA-6301 can be deployed as part of a flexible, 4K IP-based field production requiring up to four times less cabling than a traditional SDI-based deployment. Both, the VEGA-6300 and the VEGA-6301 are 1U high, less than 270mm deep, and two can fit side by side in a standard 19” rack.

The Advantech VEGA-3000 adapter implements the SMPTE 2022-5/6 standards for transporting high bit rate media over IP networks. A key requirement for the transition to IP in the industry is a way to connect existing SDI-based cameras and equipment to the IP infrastructure that implements the new connectivity. The VEGA-3000 PCIe card effectively creates up to three “virtual SDI” channels within a 10GbE network link, and bridges each channel either to a physical SDI connection or to a logical server port across the PCI Express bus. When the board is configured in standalone mode, it can be installed in a small single or multiple-card enclosure to create a multi-port gateway device without the need for a host.
Advantech has teamed up with Sony and other industry leaders to collaborate in the development of a multi-vendor IP infrastructure that enables efficient distribution of AV media in 4K live production workflows. The Advantech VEGA-3001 adapter provides an easy-to-integrate interface card that fits a 4Kp60 video signal, including audio and metadata, into a single 10GbE link. The VEGA-3001 also supports redundancy schemes and high precision synchronization which are essential for live productions.

The new High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) significantly reduces bit rates when compared to its predecessor, H.264. It is particularly relevant for UHD which requires much higher capacity. But these improvements come at high computational cost with up to 48 server-class cores typically required to perform real-time software-based 4K HEVC broadcast encoding.

Advantech VEGA-3300 and VEGA-3301 encoder accelerator cards enable real-time HEVC encoding at up to 20x less power consumption than a software-only solution. Traditional server hardware is not well suited to video processing, especially when multiple high bit rate channels require manipulation. Advantech’s compact plug-in encode accelerators provide video equipment manufacturers with the technology to accelerate this part of the workflow without otherwise losing capacity or adding more servers, helping them successfully address the challenges of UHD video processing in a cost-effective manner. Using offload acceleration allows a server to do more of what it is good at, and significantly reduces power, cost and footprint of high-density solutions.
The VEGA-3300 and VEGA-3301 PCI Express adapters are tailored for the video infrastructure and are capable of performing real-time, broadcast-quality 4Kp60 Main10 4:2:2 profile HEVC encoding at less than 15W and 35W power consumption respectively. The VEGA-3300 targets file or stream-based encoding workflows in a low-profile adapter format to facilitate the integration of multiple accelerators in a range of servers and appliances. The VEGA-3301 adapter additionally features 4K video capture over built-in 4-ch SDI-3G, HDMI 2.0 or Display Port video inputs for acquisitionbased encoding. Both cards feature a simple-to-use API and example code for FFmpeg and GStreamer multimedia frameworks to streamline new product development and their integration into existing applications.
