God Rules. Who is in charge of your life? Because God created everything, He is in charge of everything. Read REVELATION 4:11.

We Sinned. Have you ever done something wrong? Everyone sins or disobeys God. Our sin separates us from God. Read ROMANS 3:23.

God Provided. God is holy and must punish sin. God sent His Son, Jesus, to take the punishment we deserve. Read JOHN 3:16.

Jesus Gives. What is the best gift you have ever received? Jesus took our punishment for sin by giving His life, and He gives us His righteousness. God sees us as if we lived the perfect life Jesus lived. This is the best gift ever! Read 2 CORINTHIANS 5:21.

We Respond. Everyone has a choice to make. Will you trust Jesus as your Savior and Lord? You can turn from self and sin and turn to Jesus. Read ROMANS 10:9-10.

PARENTS

Adventure can be a regular part of your child’s daily time with God and your family devotion time. Try these ideas this month with your child.

1. The May Adventure is all about Telling people about Jesus. The devotions and activities will help your child know that God wants people to know about Jesus. Help your child realize he can tell others even now. Then help you child think of some ways he can share the Gospel.

2. Enjoy the Fun Facts throughout your Adventure. See if there are some facts that might be new to you. Then take time together to read a devotion and the accompanying Bible verse.

3. Check out the jokes on page 34. Read the jokes together and enjoy a good laugh. Take turns reading the jokes to another family member.

4. Your child may be asking questions about how to become a Christian. Be ready with an answer. Use the verses and information on page 4 to talk with your child about becoming a Christian. If your child is ready to respond by becoming a Christian, lead him to pray a prayer similar to this one:

DEAR GOD,

I know I have disobeyed You and gone my own way. My sin separates me from You. I am sorry that I have disobeyed You and earned Your punishment, but today I turn back to You. I believe that Jesus died on a cross in my place so that my sins can be forgiven. I believe Jesus rose from the dead and is alive. I trust Jesus to save me. Thank You for sending Jesus to live a perfect life and to take away my punishment. God, please forgive me and help me to obey You and to live for You the rest of my life.

Who Is the Holy Spirit? “The one who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.” He said this about the Spirit. Those who believed in Jesus were going to receive the Spirit, for the Spirit had not yet been given because Jesus had not yet been glorified. John 7:38-39

Have you ever heard of spirits? Usually people think spirits are scary. But did you know that there is a good Spirit? In fact, that Spirit is the best kind of Spirit you could ever interact with. When you decide to follow Jesus, He gives you the Holy Spirit to help guide you, grow your faith in God, and help you do the things that God wants you to do. So don’t be afraid of God’s Spirit! His Spirit will help you!

DEAR GOD, Thank You for Your Spirit that comes to believers.

A missionary is a follower of Jesus who is sent out to make more followers for Jesus among the nations and peoples of the earth. You can pray for missionaries and give money through your church to help them do their work.

Needs of missionaries:

1. Pray for the safety of missionaries and their families.

2. Pray that more people will want to know about Jesus.

3. Pray that more people will trust Jesus to be their Savior and Lord.

4. Pray that the missionaries will have the resources to do the work they need to do.

Read about Paul's second missionary journey and then pray for missionaries who are serving today. Read Acts 16:1-5 and Acts 18:1-11.

God Sent the Spirit He poured out his Spirit on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior. Titus 3:6

Jesus’ followers gathered in a house in Jerusalem. A loud sound like a strong wind blew through the house. Tongues like flames appeared over the disciples’ heads! The Holy Spirit filled each of them. Then they began to speak different languages! Peter preached to the crowd, telling them that God had given them the Holy Spirit. God sent the Holy Spirit to help believers tell the good news of Jesus. That’s what the disciples did then. That’s what followers of Jesus do today.

DEAR GOD, Fill people with Your Spirit so they can tell others about Jesus.

Set Apart by God As they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2

God spoke to the leaders of the Antioch church, telling them that He wanted Barnabas and Saul (also known as Paul) to travel to other places to tell the good news of Jesus. Paul and Barnabas were missionaries. A missionary is “a person called by God to leave home and travel to another place to tell people about Jesus.” God calls people today to be missionaries. Maybe God will ask you or someone you know to become a missionary.

DEAR GOD, Thank You for missionaries who go and tell others about Jesus.

Depending on their strength, winds can be known as a breeze, gale, storm, or hurricane.

The Bible is God’s Word. In It, you can learn the right things to do, and you can learn how much God has loved you from the beginning of time. There are people in this world who have never heard God’s Word. They will not know the truth unless someone goes to tell them.

An older man lived in a small and dusty mountain village in Africa. The village was far away. It was hard to get to, and few people ever came to visit.

One day the older man’s heart was filled with excitement as he saw two men approaching. He waved his arms and jumped up

and down on the dusty ground. He invited the men to join his family for a meal and gave his guests the best food he had. Then the older man sprayed each of them with perfume and burned incense in honor of their visit.

After the meal the older man looked toward the sky and began to tell the

men the story of a dream. The man said he dreamed this dream before he had become so old. He said, “I dreamt that one day I would entertain visitors, and so, I have been preparing ever since.”

The men were happy to hear about the man’s dream. They knew God had prepared the man for their visit and wanted the older man to hear about God and Jesus. The two men knew their host had never heard the true stories from the Bible, but now they were there to tell him. Now, he would hear! The men became friends, and the older man heard many true stories from the Bible. He smiled a snaggle-toothed grin and said, “This is truth, and I believe it.”

Many people in Africa know very little about Jesus and the Bible. Christian workers in unreached regions want more people to hear about Jesus. The workers do three things: learn a new language, live among the people in their culture, and are ready to talk about Jesus any time.

• Pray that more Christians will desire to tell unreached people about Jesus.

• Pray for the safety of missionaries working in areas where Christians are not welcome.

• Ask God to give new believers in Africa the courage to share Jesus with others. Thank God for the new believers in Africa.

• Ask Him to give those believers the courage to share Jesus with others.

Learning to Share the Gospel He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out in pairs and gave them authority over unclean spirits. Mark 6:7

Hun lives in South Korea and teaches Christian university students how to share the gospel. Hun sends the students to other countries in Asia. The students live in these other countries for six months, telling people about Jesus. Then they return to South Korea. Hun says the students are very excited when they return. God wants all of His people to tell others about Him. Even if you never go to another country, God wants you to tell others about Him right where you are.

DEAR GOD, Help Hun and other teachers teach students to share the gospel.

Maybe a Missionary In the same way, the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should earn their living by the gospel. 1 Corinthians 9:14

“We’ve been learning about missions at church,” Sophia told Dad. “I think I may want to be a missionary when I am older. Did you know that there are over 3,000 different people groups that need to be reached? Only a small part of each of these groups are Christians. I think I could help tell some of those people about Jesus.”

Dad smiled and said, “Keep thinking and praying. Ask God to show you what to do. He will help you know if He wants you to be a missionary.”

DEAR GOD, Call missionaries and send them around the world so every people group can hear the good news about Jesus.

Beautiful Feet And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. Romans 10:15

Do you know someone with beautiful feet? The Bible says some feet are beautiful not because of how they look but because they carry good news to others. What is the good news? Jesus is the Savior who died for people’s sins and rose again. If people in your church are telling the good news of Jesus, they have beautiful feet. If your church helps missionaries around the world tell others about Jesus, they are helping people with beautiful feet. Preaching the good news

“Emma, don’t forget your pads,” Ethan called.Emma rolled the wheels of her skateboard with her hand.

“I’m just going to the library. It’s only a few blocks. Besides,” she said, “it’s my body. I don’t care if I fall and scrape it.”

Ethan said, “That’s not exactly true. You are a Christian. The Holy Spirit lives in you. Your body belongs to God, not yourself.”

Ethan handed the pads to Emma and she slid them on. “Thanks,” she said. “Wouldn’t want to damage the temple.”

“Yeah,” Ethan said, “those temple repairs can be tough.”

DEAR GOD, Help me remember to respect and care for my body.

Cannot Stop Telling Peter and John answered them, “Whether it’s right in the sight of God for us to listen to you rather than to God, you decide; for we are unable to stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:19-20

Often, exciting news will just spill out of a person’s mouth. The words rush out, and then the speaker is out of breath and smiling. “I just can’t wait! Listen to this!” The disciples Peter and John could not stop telling others what they had seen and heard from Jesus. They had to tell about His resurrection. All Christians should be excited and ready to tell others what they know about Jesus.

DEAR GOD, Lead my church and my family to continue to tell what we have seen and heard about Jesus.

What Can You Do? But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:8

How can kids impact the world for Christ? What could you do? You can pray. Pray for missionaries in the United States and around

the world. Pray for the leaders of your church. You can give. Give money to help your church tell others about

Jesus in your community. Give to support missionaries. You can go. Go on a mission trip with your family or church. Help

with a mission’s project in your town. If you are a Christian, you can be a witness and help tell the world

about Jesus.

DEAR GOD, Show me how I can pray, give, and go to be a witness for You.

A Witness We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him. Acts 5:32

Anointing As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need anyone to teach you. Instead, his anointing teaches you about all things and is true and is not a lie; just as it has taught you, remain in him. 1 John 2:27

In the Bible, people were anointed with oil to honor them or set them apart for a job or task. Someone would pour a small amount of oil on a person's head to anoint that person. The Bible also tells about another kind of anointing, the anoiting of the Holy Spirit. This happens when the Spirit comes into a Christian’s heart, showing that the Christian now has the task to follow God and tell His message. God’s Spirit will always be with a Christian, helping the person know more about God.

What if you wanted to read the Bible but could not find one in your language? There are over 7,000 languages spoken or signed in the world. But no one has translated a Bible for about 2,000 of those languages; many other languages have only part of the Bible translated. Everyone needs to know about God’s plan, but many people cannot read or learn about Jesus because no Bible is in their language. More missionaries are needed to translate the Bible.

DEAR GOD, Help every person be able to read about Jesus in his own language.

In Spanish, His name is Jesucristo. People in Russia call Him Iisus Khristos. His name is uJesu Kristu in Zulu and Yexus Khetos in Hmong. In English people say Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only Son of God, sent by God to be the Savior. He died on a cross as the sacrifice for sin, and He rose again on the third day. Jesus is the only way to God, the only Savior. People of every land and language need the Savior. All need to call on His name— Yīśu Masīha (Hindi); Jezus Christus (Dutch); Ciise Masiix (Somali); Jesus Christ.

DEAR GOD, Show me how to be a part of telling the world about Jesus.

With current technology a New Testament can be translated to another language in about nine years.

Peter is a missionary to herdsmen who raise sheep and cattle in the wilderness. These families are nomads. They may move 11 times a year! They take down their houses, pack everything, and set up in a new place. Peter and East Asian Christians help the families by providing some food, warm clothes, and other needs. They tell the herdsmen about Jesus. Sometimes Peter must search to find where families live. But he keeps looking. They need to know about Jesus.

DEAR GOD, Lead the herdsmen to follow Jesus.

God wants me to grow in my faith in Him.

God wants me to love and follow Jesus.

God wants me to obey Him.

God wants me to obey my parents.

Storm Damage When I am filled with cares, your comfort brings me joy. Psalm 94:19

In Greenville, Texas, a severe storm with strong winds blew into town. Highland Terrace Baptist Church decided to cancel their Wednesday night church activities so members could stay out of the storm. The storm hit the church and the wind pulled off part of the roof. Parts of the roof hit other parts of the church, too. The pastor said they had prayed that God would be in control of the storm, keeping people safe and minimizing damage. The storm did not hit the places where people live. God protected the people and sent others to help with the damaged church.

The Bible says to live in harmony. Harmony is the sound when different musical notes blend together to make pretty music. When Christians trust God to guide their lives, everyone gets along well. If Christians act in selfish ways or do things that hurt others, they don’t get along. People clash like music with wrong notes. Think about ways you can live in harmony with your family and your friends.

Do you have any of these fears: arachnophobia—fear of spiders; coulrophobia—fear of clowns; entomophobia—fear of bugs and insects; acrophobia—fear of high places; xenophobia—fear of strangers. We all have things that make us nervous, unsettled, or afraid. But the Bible says that God did not give His children a fearful or afraid spirit. God gives power and strength to help His people love others and do His

Philip lives in St. Paul, Minnesota. He met many people from African countries who had moved to St. Paul. He started a church for the African people to tell them about Jesus. Khamis came to the church. He became a Christian but he wanted to learn about preaching. He wanted to go back to his country, South Sudan, and tell people about Jesus. So Philip’s church started a school to train Khamis and others how to preach the gospel. These people go back to countries in Africa to help tell other people about Jesus.

Jesus came to be the Savior. He was arrested by the Jewish leaders and put on trial. They took Jesus to the Roman leader and said that Jesus should die. Jesus was nailed to a cross; He suffered and died. His followers took His body and put it in a cave tomb. On the third day, Jesus rose again. He is alive! He died for people’s sins. Those who follow Him have their sins forgiven. Christians live for Jesus because He died for them.
