The highest standards maintained by RBCT over the years have been well-documented, and once again came under the spotlight at the 2017 Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry Business Excellence Awards. RBCT won five awards and received a second place in one of the categories. Here are the awards that RBCT’s management and staff are proud of: PREMIUM AWARD OF THE YEAR Awarded to the company or institution who received the overall highest points in the Business Categories. EMPLOYER OF THE YEAR RBCT attributes its success to its people, who are committed to the efficient and effective running of the terminal. ‘Our people do not just move coal, they move it with passion, zeal and dedication.’ Our recognition as Employer of the Year comes from our alignment to our theme for 2017, which is ‘The Year of Commitment’. LOGISTIC BUSINESS OF THE YEAR RBCT is proud to have won the Logistics Business of the Year award for the second year running. Living our slogan ‘Coal to the World, Growth to the Nation’, RBCT, with its roots firmly planted in Richards Bay since 1976, continues to consistently grow. Our secret lies in our people, our process, our innovation and our ability to evolve. ‘RBCT prides itself in benchmarking its logistics offering against world class terminals and has over the years developed systems to match First World solutions. ‘We are constantly striving to introduce new technology to improve efficiency and reduce delays where possible. ‘With this culture of continuous improvement, we have grown to become a terminal with an international reputation of being highly dependable and efficient.’ 2 nd Place: CORPORATE BUSINESS OF THE YEAR Diversity and transformation are critical to the success of RBCT. We are a Level 3 BBBEE company and constantly strive to ensure we have a competent, efficient workforce that has the capacity to meet the objectives and goals of the Terminal. We stand true to our values, which are working to the best of our abilities and we are innovative and pro-active. SABCOHA WELLNESS AWARD At RBCT employee wellness is one of the most important areas of our daily focus. One of the key pillars of our HSEC strategy is wellness, focusing on physical, psychological, social, emotional and financial aspects. ‘Healthy employees are at the core of our excellence in moving coal.’ The partnerships we have with our service providers in this area ensure that our employees are well all year round. We take pride in living our value of ‘We care for the well-being of our employees’. SAFETY AWARENESS AWARD Providing a safe workplace for our workforce is a core value and priority at RBCT. Our quest to create and sustain an injury- free work environment for our employees and contractors continues during 2017. We continue to make progress on improving our safety culture; the continuous engagement of all stakeholders on safety has been identified as key to achieving HSEC excellence. Safety Culture at RBCT is a way of life through: - Positive Personal Risk Attitude - Caring and respect for others and yourself. - Safety accountability. - Workforce involvement in safety, and consultation. - Management safety leadership and commitment. - Safety coaching and mentoring. - We use the safety successes to leverage a wider safety objective of Zero Injuries to all our employees and contractors. RBCT has a responsibility to provide a working environment that is safe and risk free. Our HSEC policy sets out our commitment to eliminating injuries and fatalities from our business. This, in turn, sustains our drive for continuous improvement in safety processes. Our ultimate target remains zero injuries. ‘We will not engage in any unsafe activity.’ MOST EFFICIENT WATER USER OF THE YEAR: During 2016 and 2017, RBCT continues to identify new innovative ways to improve water management and reduce water usage on the already strained Goedetrouw Dam. With the use of recycled water in our 80ml ESUP dams, RBCT is proud to have reached in 2017 a water saving of 61%, compared to 2016’s water usage. RBCT continues to encourage employees and contractors to come up with water saving innovations. RBCT promotes employee and contractors water conservation awareness through induction sessions, team meetings and monthly environmental talks. Although RBCT recycles all water used on site, we still strongly believe that we can save more water through lifestyle changes and innovative technologies.
