North American Car of the Year

2015 Volkswagen Golf/GTIPerhaps an odd choice for North American

Car of the Year, but the Volkswagen Golf has

raised the bar for compact cars. It’s all new

modular “MQB” platform allows designers to

lengthen and widen the structure to

accommodate many different models while

keeping the solid feel of a Golf and adding the

versatility of including hybrid or fully electric

drivelines to the vehicle without compromise.

Ford

•Unlike the 2005-6 Ford GT which shared the V8 engine layout with its namesake, the new model showcases Ford’s new economical power direction with a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 producing north of 600hp with a 7-speed semi-automatic transaxle

•Styling has hints of the earlier GT/GT40 but moves in a bold new direction, distinct from the current spate of mid-engine exotic supercars with its flow-through design

•Production was announced for (late) 2016
