Hankison air-cooled atercoolers use ambient air to cool the hot air leaving an air compressor (typically 180°F to 350°F [82°C to 177°C] ) to usable levels 100°F to 120°F (38°C to 49°C] ). As the air cools about 70% o the water vapor present condenses into liquid water which can thenbe removed with a separator. Economical, air-cooled atercoolers use ambient air to remove heat rom the compressed air. Atercoolers can be sized to cool the compressed air to within 5° to 20°F (3° to 11°C) o the ambient air temperature.
