Installation RequirementsBefore you begin to install the physics card or PhysX driver, make sure you have the itemsrequired for a successful installation.

BFG Driver Installation CD

You must have a BFG physics card driver installation CD, or have downloaded PhysX driversfrom www.bfgtech.com or www.ageia.com.

• CPU with processor speed of 1.4 GHz or higher

• 128MB of System RAM

• Microsoft® Windows® XP Home, Pro or Media Center Edition

• CD or DVD-ROM drive

• 20MB available disk space

• A 300 watt system power supply

• A vacant PCI 2.3 or higher slot

• Add-in graphics card supporting Microsoft DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2.0 or higher

Installing the Physics CardUse this chapter as a guide to install your physics card.

Physics Card Installation

1. Before you handle the physics card or remove the computer cover, ground yourself bytouching the metal back or side panel of the computer.

2. Power OFF the computer, the monitor, and all other peripheral devices connected to the computer.

3. Tag and unplug the computer power cord from the computer and the power receptacle.

4. Tag and disconnect all cables from the back of the computer.

5. Remove the computer cover. (Refer to your computer manual for help).

6. Locate an empty 5 V/3.3 V PCI slot on the motherboard in which to insert the physics card.Figure 1 shows PCI slots.

CAUTIONS AND WARNINGS

WARNING! Never open the computer chassis when the computer is powered ON. This couldresult in serious personal injury. Power OFF the computer and unplug the computer powercord before you open the chassis.

CAUTION! Do not handle the physics card or any computer component unless you areproperly grounded. The card and computer components are electrostatic-sensitive devicesand can be damaged by static electricity. Before you install the physics card, ground yourselfby touching the metal back or side panel of the computer chassis. If you have an ESDwristband, wear it when handling the physics card or computer components.

CAUTION! Do not attempt to install the physics card if the computer is powered ON.

CAUTION! After you have installed the physics card, be sure you plug in the IDE power cablebefore you power the computer ON.

7. Hold the physics card by its edges, and align it with the PCI slot on the motherboard.See Figure 2.

8. Press the card gently and evenly into the slot until the card is fully seated. See Figure 2.

9. Secure the bracket screw that holds the physics card in place. See Figure 3.

10. Connect the IDE power cable from the supply that powers the motherboard to the four-pinIDE power connector on the physics card. The IDE connector on the card is located at thetop edge of the card on the side opposite the bracket. See Figure 4.

11. Replace the computer cover.

12. Reconnect any cables you removed, as tagged.

13. Plug the power cord into the computer and the power receptacle, as tagged.

14. Power ON the computer, and allow the system to boot.

15. Power ON any peripheral devices.

Installing the PhysX DriverUse this chapter as a guide to install the driver for your physics card. The driver enables you toaccess and enjoy all the exciting features offered by the physics card … in real time.

Found New Hardware

If you have already installed the physics card, the “Found New Hardware Wizard” windowmay pop up before or during driver installation. To continue installing the driver you must click“Cancel”. See Figure 5.

PhysX Driver Installation

1. Insert the BFG Driver CD into your CD/DVD-ROM drive.

2. The CD will auto-run and bring up a menu of language options.

3. If the CD does not auto-run click “Start” > “My Computer” and then double click.

4. Click “Install Drivers”. See Figure 6.

5. Choose your language. See Figure7.

6. Click “I Agree” to the License Agreement, or click “Cancel” to exit the installationprogram. See Figure 8.

7. Make any needed changes to the component selection and click “Install”. See Figure 9.

8. The physics card drivers are now being copied onto your system. This may take severalmoments to complete. See Figure 10.

9. After installation has completed, if the physics card is not yet installed in your computer awindow tells you to install the card. A pop-up dialog box provides additional instructions.Click “Close” to exit the PhysX Installer, and then install the physics card.(See Installing the Physics Card).

10. After installation has completed, if the physics card is already installed in your computer, youwill see the window shown in Figure 11. Click “Close” to exit the PhysX Installer andcomplete the installation.

AGEIA PhysX System Tray IconUse the AGEIA PhysX System Tray Icon to show PhysX settings.

1. Right-click the “AGEIA PhysX System Tray Icon” in the System Tray, if you opted to havethe icon run in the tray when you installed the PhysX driver. See Figure 12.(The System Tray is located in the lower-right corner of your screen. It contains the clockand other icons).

Select “Start” > “AGEIA” > “AGEIA PhysX System Tray Icon”, if the System Tray Iconis not running in the System Tray. See Figure 13.

2. Select “AGEIA PhysX Settings” or “Exit”. See Figure 14. This option opens the “AGEIA PhysX Control Panel” application.

AGEIA PhysX Control PanelUse the PhysX Control Panel application to access driver and hardware information, installeddemos, system settings and diagnostics, and troubleshooting features.

1. Select “Start” > “Control Panel” > “AGEIA PhysX Control Panel”.

Or

Right-click the “AGEIA PhysX System Tray Icon”,then select “AGEIA PhysX Settings”.

2. Select the following windows:

• Info

• Demo

• Settings

• Help

Info

The Info window displays AGEIA PhysX driver and hardware information. See Figure 15.

Demo

In the Demo window, click an icon to launch the installed demo. See Figure 16.

Settings

The Settings window contains the following options (see Figure 17):

• “Reset AGEIA PhysX Card” button. Select this option for a soft reset of the card.

• “Force Chip Reset on Initialization” checkbox. Select this option to reset the physics card when you power ON the computer.

• “Show System Tray Icon” checkbox. Select this option to display the icon on your Desktop.

• “Start Extended Diagnostics”. Select this option to run extended diagnostics on the physicscard and display the information in the window. Click “Save Report to File” to save the information to a file for technical support. This is a very useful tool if the card does not seem to be working properly.

Help

The “Help” window provides links to technical support websites, and to troubleshooting and documentation. See Figure 18.

Verifying the Physics Card Is Present

1. On the PC desktop, right-click the “My Computer” icon, and select “Properties” > “Hardware” (tab).

2. Click the “Device Manager” Button.

3. If the physics card and PhysX driver have been installed on your computer, and there is IDEpower supplied to the card, the card is listed in the Device Manager window.See Figure 19.

If you do not see the physics card listed, the card is not physically present or there is no IDEpower supplied to the card.

• Is the AC power cord firmly plugged into the power receptacle and the computer?• Is the computer power switch in the ON position?• Is the line voltage correct for your computer’s power configuration?• Is the power source you plugged the computer into energized?• Are all cables, boards, cards and connectors firmly seated?• Is the monitor connected to the computer and to a power source? • Is the monitor power switch in the ON position?• Are all peripheral devices connected to the computer and to a power source?• Are the peripheral-device power switches in the ON position?

4. Right-click the name of the card, and select “Properties”.

5. Click the “General” tab to open the “Device Properties” window.

6. The “Device Properties” window should display the “Device Type”, “AGEIA”, andlocation of the physics card on the motherboard. If the card is present and working properly,“Device Status” should read: “This device is working properly”. See Figure 20.

7. If “Device Status” does not show that message, you can try to re-install the PhysX driver,or use Windows troubleshooting. If you need more help, see “Product Assistance”.

8. Exit the Device Manager.

Verifying the PhysX Driver Is Installed

1. On the PC desktop, right-click the “My Computer” icon, and select “Properties” > “Hardware” (tab).

2. Click the “Device Manager” Button.

3. If the physics card and PhysX driver have been installed on your computer, and there is IDEpower supplied to the card, the physics card is listed in the “Device Manager” window.See Figure 19.

4. Right-click the name of the card, and select “Properties”.

5. Click the “Driver” tab to open the “Driver Properties” window.

6. The “Driver Properties” window should display the “Driver Provider” and “Driver Version” details for the PhysX driver. See Figure 21.

7. Exit the Device Manager.

Connect the Device to the Computer message appears during installation.

If you have installed the physics card and installed the driver, but the installation program still displays that message, then plug the IDE power cable into the card.

I need to verify that the PhysX driver is installed, or check the driver version.

Uninstalling the Driver and UtilitiesTo uninstall the PhysX driver and utilities:

Select “Start” > “Control Panel” > “Add or Remove Programs”. Under the “AGEIAPhysX” program entry, click “Remove”. See Figure 22.

8. In the “Add or Remove” Programs dialog box, click “Yes” to remove (uninstall) the PhysX driver and utilities from your computer.

Or

Click “No” to keep the PhysX driver and utilities on your computer.See Figure 23: Removing PhysX from Your Computer.

Physics Card WarrantyPhysics Card Lifetime WarrantyBFG Technologies is proud to warrant the original purchaser of the physics card included in thispackage (“Product”) that the Product will be free from defects in material or workmanship foras long as the original purchaser owns the product, when given normal wear and proper usage.

This warranty is valid if the product:

• Was not damaged while being installed.

• Was not damaged by software or hardware from a company or individual other than BFG Technologies or by motherboard incompatibility.

• Was operated in accordance with BFG Technologies specifications, instructions.

• Was not modified or damaged by overclocking, tampering, user error, accident, disaster,abuse, misuse, power supply, power application, alteration, repair, modification, a fix or replacement by someone other than BFG Technologies.

• Third party products, such as motherboards and other system components using this Product are not be covered by this warranty.

BFG Technologies’ liability under this warranty, or in connection with any other claim relating tothe Product, is limited to the repair or at BFG Technologies option, the replacement of theportion of the Product which was defective in material or workmanship. This warranty does notapply to any software component.

You assume the risk of loss in transit and the returned Products shall be the sole property ofBFG Technologies. BFG Technologies warrants the repaired or replaced Products will be freefrom defects in material or workmanship.
