Themes of Catcher in the RyeLoss of InnocenceFakes in the Adult WorldThe Pain of Growing UpIsolation as a Form of Self-Protection

Holden must face that fork in the road of adolescence when one realizes that maturity entails a loss of innocence—that greater knowledge of oneself and others and the circumstances all comes with a price.

Catcher in the Rye Journal-3Entry 1: Begin your “Personal Observations/Reflection” portion of the journal project by answering the following questions in your journal tonight. - You will find out soon that Holden spends a lot of time describing

his kid sister Phoebe in quite a bit of detail. So In your journal, write about one of your brothers or sisters in a lot of detail like Holden. Or if you are an only child, describe a friend like this. Take time to watch them and look at their behaviors and features and see if you do anything similar.

Sometimes it is spooky how similar you are to your sibling….
