Guest SpeakerPatrick F. BassettNAIS President

Prior to co-founding Heads Up Educational Consulting in 2013, a consulting firm that provides strategic, operational, governance, and programmatic guidance and consultation to educational enterprises, Patrick F. Bassett spent his entire career in education. Bassett began his career in independent schools in 1970 as an English teacher, lacrosse coach, and dorm parent at Woodberry Forest School (VA), an all-boys boarding school. In 1980, he became headmaster of an all-girls school, Stuart Hall (VA), where he remained until 1989, when he was appointed head of school at Pomfret School (CT). From 1993-2001, Bassett was the president of the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS), a professional path that ultimately led in August 2001 to appointment as the president of the National Association of Independent Schools. He was also an adjunct faculty member of Teachers College, Columbia University during his tenure at NAIS.

Bassett has served on the board as a trustee of NAIS (1985-1989), The Multicultural Alliance (1994-2000), The Council for Spiritual and Ethical Education (CSEE 1996-2013), The Council for American Private Education (CAPE 2001-2013), the National Network of Schools in Partnership (NNSP, a public/private school consortium, 2012-2014), and his alma mater, Williams College (2010-15). He currently serves on the board of trustees of United Educators (a school and university risk management insurance company); Finalsite (a website & mobile technologies company); Woodberry Forest School (VA); the Benedict Foundation; Three-W International (an international student placement and services company); and Grab the Torch (a non-profit dedicated to inculcating philanthropy in youth).

Professional recognition has included being named a Kellogg National Leadership Fellow in 1986; a recipient of the Educational Leadership Award in 2000 by The Klingenstein Center of Teachers College (Columbia University); and global leadership awards from The European Council for International Schools (ECIS), from the Near East South Asia Council of Overseas Schools (NESA), and from NAIS; and the Visionary Leadership Award in 2017 from the Association of Delaware Valley Independent Schools (ADVIS).

A Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of Williams College (’70) where he was captain of the lacrosse team, Bassett also holds a master's degree in film studies from Northwestern University (’73). He and his wife, Barbara, have two grown daughters and two grandchildren living in Boulder, CO. His passion is golf, for which, sadly, he seems to have a flat learning curve.

COLLEGE Historically...

• 100% of graduates attend a 4-year college or university.

• 90% of graduates receive a significant college scholarship.

• 85% of seniors in the top half of the class who apply gain acceptance to a top 25 college or university.

• 80–90% of seniors are accepted to their 1st choice college.

Holland Hall has the best college counselor to senior student ratio in the region with an average of 25 seniors per full-time college counselor.

Holland Hall is the only Cum Laude Society school in Tulsa and one of only 3 Cum Laude Society schools in OK. The Cum Laude Society is a selective national organization similar to Phi Beta Kappa. Schools must apply via a rigorous application process. Having a Cum Laude Society chapter is seen by colleges as the most critical mark of academic excellence.

ALUMNIThe Holland Hall alumni network includes more than 3,000 leaders involved in business, medicine, technology, law, non-profits, government, religious organizations, education, and just about every industry you can imagine. Each one is a potential mentor and guide for your child.

The average income for a Holland Hall alum is in the top 5% of earners in the U.S.

In a recent national survey, Holland Hall alumni satisfaction was rated at a higher score than all other schools surveyed.

DIVERSITY AND INCLUSIVITYHolland Hall students come from 40 different zip codes. 22% of students PreK–12th Grade identify as students of color. 30% of 9th–12th Grade students identify as students of color. The student body represents every major religious and faith tradition, including, but not limited to Judaism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Buddhism.

21% of PreK-12 and 32% of Upper School students receive some form of tuition assistance.

Holland Hall invests in 5 Learning Support Specialists across all 3 branches of the school to help support an incredibly diverse array of learners.

FACULTYHolland Hall has the lowest student to teacher ratio in Tulsa at 9 to 1.

70% of the Upper School faculty have an advanced degree, including 5 doctorates. This is the highest percentage at comparable schools in the state and region.

To attract and retain the highest quality faculty, Holland Hall invests heavily in our teachers. On average, we pay 5 to 10 thousand dollars more per year to our teachers than other Oklahoma private and public schools.

The average number of years our faculty members serve at Holland Hall is 10 years. The average number of years of industry and teaching experience is 15 years.

MORE THAN JUST ACADEMICSHolland Hall offers...

• 62 different Upper School art courses. All students begin participating in the arts in PreK.

• Nearly 20 different sports teams in the Upper School. Competitive sports begin in 7th Grade.

• Over 30 different clubs and honor societies.

Holland Hall’s endowment is approximately $85 million, placing us in the top 5% of PreK-12 independent day schools in the country.

TUITIONHolland Hall’s PreK tuition is competitive with comparable programs in Tulsa.

Our overall tuition is less than comparable schools in Oklahoma City and across the country. It’s higher than other local private schools so we can attract and retain the best teachers, fostering a culture of excellence that results in amazing college and life outcomes for our graduates.

Promise StatementThe Holland Hall promise statement is our internal covenant about what Holland Hall delivers to every student, every day. It is a clear way to define our value proposition that captures the essence of what makes us different from every other school.

As Tulsa’s only PreK through grade 12 independent Episcopal school, Holland Hall

— iconic, inclusive, challenging, embracing —

offers bedrock academic foundations, uncommon extracurricular equilibrium,an extraordinary apprenticeship in self-reliance and an integrated approach to character development that instills empathy and inspires engagement.

Here, students build a reserve of complementary strengths

— flexibility, conviction, dexterity, depth —

as they create collaboratively and think independently, compete on the gym floor, the courts, the athletic fields, and create on the stage, in the studio, across the canvas, and on the page, and embrace problem-solving and project-driven learning alongside the timeless disciplines of discourse and research.

Here, too, master educators

— diligent, dedicated, authentic, accessible —

distinguish themselves and develop as a team, each deploying an approach finely honed to suit a specific subject, a personal teaching philosophy, a class dynamic, and a single student’s needs, and all while sharing a common devotion to the pedagogical craft and human ministry of transformative teaching.

Holland Hall educators cultivate exceptional academic outcomes, as they create and curate extended mentorships, enduring friendships, and a cohesive and deeply kind community.

And here, the Episcopal-influenced Holland Hall mission

— wide ranging, well-considered, ambitious, individual —

shapes eager students into independent thinkers who stay true to themselves while celebrating others, work hard and learn enthusiastically, and set a confident course — for themselves, for others, for Tulsa, for the world — toward a better tomorrow.

Category of OneOur strategic advantage.Holland Hall’s “Category of One” defines the distinctive values, unique mechanisms, and transformative outcomes that only Holland Hall can claim.

Holland Hall is Tulsa’s PreK through Grade 12 independent Episcopal School, where the possibilities of AND

meet the assurance of ALL to foster independent thinkers who set a confident course toward college, work, and the world beyond.

So what makes Holland Hall stand out? Well, it’s written in our name.

We start with the exciting possibilities of AND

— our many unusual electives, athletic teams, arts programs, instructional approaches, and active learning opportunities both on campus and across Tulsa —

and connect them to the solid assurance of ALL

— the complete educational experience that prepares students exceptionally well for college, work, and the world beyond.

As an Episcopal school, AND and ALL highlight our inscribed values:

We honor the individual integrity of each child.

And we provide the bedrock education every student needs.

It’s a commitment so strong, it’s quite literally who we are.

The possibilities of and The assurance of all
