Agriculture and Rural Development Overseeding Legumes in Bermudagrass Pasture Demonstration: A demonstration plot was planted on the Stan Mannschreck Farm to take a look at different legumes planted into bermuda- grass in order to save money on nitrogen fertilizer. Caddo County Cattlemen Meeting Features Wind Power: The October Caddo County Cattle- men’s Association hosted an educational meeting to discuss contracts and leases for wind power farms in Caddo County. A large crowd came to hear Dr. Shannon Ferrell, OSU Professor of Agri- culture Law talk about the issues that could affect land owners. Commodity Marketing Course Begins at Carnegie: 10 agriculture producers from the Carne- gie area have enrolled in the Commodity Marketing Course “The Basics of Commodity Market- ing”. Dale Beerwinkle of the Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center and myself are teaching the 7 week course which started on October 27th. Caddo County Building Authority: In order to take a look at the Caddo County jail overcrowd- ing issues the Caddo County Building Authority met on October 27th. This was the first meeting of the group since the 3/4 cent sales tax failed in 2007. The committee voted to meet again in January of 2009 at the Anadarko Community Library. NACAA 2010 Tulsa Planning Meeting: A meeting was held of the NACAA 2010 Committee Chairs to continue plans for hosting 1200 Agriculture Agents and their families in July 2010. David L. Nowlin, Ext. Educator, Agric., 4-H, & CED Monthly Report for October 2008 Family and Consumer Sciences OHCE Fall Council meeting was attended by thirty-six women from across Caddo County. Susan Routh, Grady County FCS Educator presented a lesson “Holiday Shopping On-line.” In keeping with the theme of October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dana McElroy, RT (R)(M), a Mammography Coordinator for Grady Memorial Hospital and Certified Breast Self- Exam Educator presented a very informative session on new developments and techniques in detecting breast cancer. Business meeting was conducted; officers were elected and generous donations were made to Caddo County Children First Program and the Ronald McDonald House in OKC. We had a surprise visit from “a bag lady” and her humor really served to lighten up our day. Other Programming conducted in October: Co-Parenting Class. “Making Sense of Money Management” Seminar. “An Apple a Day . . .” OHCE lesson in Stephens County. Met with OHCE Yearbook Committee and selected leader lessons for 2009. Participated in the Washita Valley Leadership Program’s Agriculture Tour. Met with the Health Grant Coordinator at Riverside Indian School to plan nutrition and food preparation classes. Continued to work on the upcoming Women in Agriculture Conference. Healthy Oklahoma Inservice. I presented the Bones in the Farm to Table Display. Ranel Lasley, Ext. 4-H & Youth Development Caddo County 4-H Horse Judging Team Caddo County was well represented by 2 Junior Horse Judging Teams at the Morgan Nationals and World Championship Show that was held in Oklahoma City on October 10th. Team A placed 6th overall and Team B placed 7th. Caddo County 2007-2008 Award’s Banquet Several Caddo County 4-H members and volunteers were rep-resented at this year’s Award’s Banquet. Awards were given to the County Blue group that included; Trevor Percival, Hope Dyer, Kelsey Nowlin, Laken Lierle, Melissa Nightingale, Trent Williams, Grant Tho-mason, Shane McGlothlin and Kati Rose were recognized. The Hall of Fame Members are Hope Dyer of Ft. Cobb-Broxton and Trevor Per-cival from the Home School Club. National 4-H Week The week of October 6th-11th was National 4-H Week. Caddo County 4-H Clubs were encouraged to develop service projects that would benefit different people and groups throughout the week.

2008 South Western Youth Action Conference This month 33 Caddo County 4-H members attended the 2008 South Western 4-H Youth Action Confer-ence. This year’s theme was “4-H Centennial Vacation” as a kickoff to the year long celebration of 100 years of 4-H in Oklahoma. Youth attending the conference participated in District Elections and partici-pated in several leadership workshops. Two Caddo County 4-Hers’ ran for a district office. Trent Williams of Gracemont ran for Reporter and Grant Thomason of Anadarko ran and won the office of South West District Vice President.
