AgriLand and Texas AgFinance Announce MergerROBSTOWN, Texas –Two rural Texas lending cooperatives — AgriLand, FarmCredit Services (FCS) and Texas AgFinance, FCS — merged Jan. 1

The merger of the two cooperatives was approved by their stockholder-customers in November andby their federal regulator, the Farm Credit Administration. The resulting organization, known as Texas Farm Credit Services, has combined assets of $769million. Mark Miller, Texas Farm Credit chief executive officer, said that the merger bringsadditional value to stockholders of both financing cooperatives. “This merger allows our associationthe opportunity to expand our product offering throughout our combined territory, to grow ourmarket share and increase our efficiency,” said Miller. Texas Farm Credit now serves 100 of the 254Texas counties. “As a cooperative, we are owned by our members, and they stand to benefit when wegrow stronger,” Miller said. “And, our customers can still expect the same great products andservices from a friendly and knowledgeable staff. That is what we are known for.” Texas FarmCredit finances agricultural operations, rural recreational property, agribusiness and other rural realestate. It is headquartered in Robstown, Texas, and has lending offices in Athens, Bandera,Beaumont, Bonham, Brenham, Clarksville, Fairfield, Gainesville, Hebbronville, Nacogdoches, NewWaverly, Paris, Pleasanton, Raymondville, Robstown, San Antonio, Sulphur Springs, Tyler, Uvalde,and Weslaco. Texas Farm Credit is part of the nationwide Farm Credit System, a network of ruralfinancing cooperatives established in 1916.

U.S. Congressman Blake Farenthold Calls TAMUCCDesignation as FAA Test Site for UAS a “Huge Win”

CORPUS CHRISTI – Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced its selection of TexasA&M University Corpus Christi as one of six public entities that will develop unmanned aircraft systems(UAS) research and test sites around the country. U.S. Congressman Blake Farenthold (TX-27) praised theFAA’s selection of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.

“The combination of expertise from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi and wide open airspace in Texasmake this an excellent choice for UAS research and development,” said Congressman Blake Farenthold,a member of the Congressional Caucus on Unmanned Systems and Congressional Privacy Caucus. “This isa huge win for TAMUCC and the whole state of Texas. It gives our region the opportunity to take a leadershiprole in both the technology and policy challenges that will arise as these unmanned systems are developed,refined and deployed.”

“As a longtime supporter and advocate for the use of unmanned systems along the border, I congratulateTexas A&M Corpus Christi for this victory in becoming one of only six national test sites for UAS,” saidCongressman Henry Cuellar (D-TX-28), co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on Unmanned Systems. “Ithas been a long process bringing this test site to Texas and we in the caucus have had several conversationswith the FAA. It has been my pleasure to work alongside Congressman Farenthold and the other membersof the Caucus to secure this site.”

Congressman Farenthold, along with Congressmen Henry Cuellar (D-TX-28), Gene Green (D-TX-29), PeteOlson (R-TX-22), and John Carter (R-TX-31), have sent letters to FAA Administrator Michael Huerta, themost recent in December highlighting Texas’ commitment to the promising technology of unmaned aircraft.

“We believe Texas would be a strong partner with the FAA in carefully managing the research anddevelopment of the UAS technology,” the Congressmen said in the letter.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is moving steadily ahead to safely integrate unmanned aircraftsystems (UAS) into the largest, most complex air traffic systems in the world. The agency’s activities mustaddress the needs of a diverse aviation community while ensuring current users both in the air and on theground remain safe.

The testing sites will allow the agency to develop research findings and operational experiences to help ensurethe safe integration of UAS into the nation's airspace as we transition to NextGen air traffic controltechnologies and procedures.

Texas A&M University Corpus Christi plans to develop system safety requirements for UAS vehicles andoperations with a goal of protocols and procedures for airworthiness testing. The selection of Texas A&Mcontributes to geographic and climactic diversity.
