Agropolis International
A MISSION WITH AN
INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION
Agropolis International is an association created in 1986 whose members include all higher education and research organizations as well as local authorities located in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France. In its mission to strengthen the international status of the regional scientifi c community, it promotes the establishment and installation of foreign research institutes and organizations in Montpellier, including USDA and CSIRO. Agropolis International has been hosting the headquarters of the CGIAR Consortium since 2011, European LABEX of EMBRAPA (Brazil) since 2002 and, more recently, LABINTEX of INTA since 2012.
The goal is to promote collaboration with these institutions at regional and national levels and to set up and support a platform to serve as a portal for European research. This will foster involvement of the hosted institutes in European scientifi c and academic research networks within the European Research Area.
HOSTING LABINTEX
From this standpoint, the installation of INTA in Montpellier, and elsewhere in France and Europe, is particularly signifi cant. It refl ects the importance of agricultural research in France, while also highlighting INTA’s aim to become a key player in agricultural research worldwide.
Agropolis International, as part of its mission, is focused on promoting the successful development of these endeavours.
LABINTEX was formally launched in November 2012 at Agropolis International, Montpellier, in the presence of INTA authorities, representatives of the regional scientifi c community and the coordinator of Labex Europe EMBRAPA.

RESEARCH PROJECT
“The plasticity of development in
response to environmental stress:
what is the role of the Snakin/GASA
gene family?”
This team will gain from INTA’s experience in this area, via integration of a LABINTEX researcher in this team, especially on the functional analysis of genes involved in abiotic and biotic stress resistance mechanisms, using molecular biology and genetic engineering.

RESEARCH TOPIC
“Tools for the design of novel
foods containing natural functional
ingredients”
The project will benefi t from INTA’s experience, through integration of a LABINTEX researcher, on issues concerning the identifi cation of phytosterol and tocopherol isomers in foods containing hydro- and fat-soluble phases. The researcher will also contribute to the development of a rapid method for oxidation detection in foods.
