    AINA SHIRT OR DRESS PATTERN

Youll need:- Raglan sleeve shirt/dress pattern. I used Heidi and Finns Girly Little Blouse .

    - pen or pencil

    - scissors

    - ruler

    - tape.

    -piece of paper.

1 .1 .Take your pattern pieces and lay them on your working table:

2 .2 . Grab the front body piece and the sleeve piece. Align the top part of the reglan seam like

    this:

I had to flip over the sleeve piece to allow to match the raglan seam part, so you can see the

back of the pattern piece in the picture.

3 .3 . Now we are going to determine the width/height of the gathered yoke. In my case I

used the 4/5T size pattern pieces, and I wanted the yoke to be 3 wide at the front

and slightly narrower on the shoulder (2). Adjust these measurements dependingon your tastes and size.

Mark your front yoke width like this:

    Align these edges

And now your shoulder yoke width:

    4/16

And finally , at the raglan seam mark the intermediate measurement between the two yoke

    widths. This is:

Intermediate widht = shoulder yoke width + [(front yoke width shoulder yoke

    width)/2]

In my case this measurement was 2 .

4 .4 .Draw a curved line connecting the three marks:

5 .5 .Cut your pattern pieces along the line youve drawn.

6 .6 .You should have 4 pattern pieces. I labeled them like this:

7 .7 .If your front and back body pattern pieces are different or you decide that your back

yoke should have a different width repeat the process for the back pieces (youll

need a new sleeve yoke pattern piece). I decided to make the front and back yoke

    width the same:

    Mark back yoke width

Mark intermediate yoke width at the reglan seam edges

Draw a curved line connecting both marks.

    Cut along the line.

8 .8 . Now the body pieces are ready to use, but we must create the gathered yoke pieces. So

grab the yoke pieces youve recently cut and with a ruler draw lines about apart

    like in the photo.

9 .9 .Cut along tose lines:. You should have this:

1 0 .1 0 .Do the same for the rest of the yoke pieces. Be very careful not to mix them and not to

loose any of the paper strips.

1 1 .1 1 . Now take your piece of paper and lay the two front yoke pieces leaving a space

    between them like this:

Try to keep the curved shape of the original pieces You can use tape to hold them in place.

This is not a scientific method, I know, but it worked for me so it can work for you too .

We need to leave this space to allow enough fabric to gather. If you prefer a more gathered

look than the one I obtained (see inicial photo), try to leave more space between the strips.

In the same manner, is you preffer a less gathered yoke leave less space in between. Note:

for heavier fabrics such as corduroy, I dont recommend to leave a lot of space because it is

really difficult to gather the yoke to match the body piece later.

1 2 .1 2 .draw a line all around the new yoke piece:

1 3 .1 3 . Now do the same for the back pieces:

Cut your new pattern pieces and label them. (Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of this step)

1 4 .1 4 . Now lets go for the sleeve piece. To make the sleeve piece take your sleeve pattern

piece youve used before (the one with the yoke part missing) and draw a line

where you want your plain top sleeve to end (plus hem/ seam allowance) and cut

    along that line:

    Sorry for the blurry Picture!

1 5 .1 5 .Tada! Youre done. You should have these pieces right now:

    15/16

IMPORTANT: We havent added the seam allowance to the top edge of the body pieces, the

top edge of the sleeve piece and bottom edge of the yoke piece (that is the edge where they

have to be sewn together). You can redraw those pieces including the seam allowance or ,if

youre lazy like me, just add it when you cut the pieces from your fabric.

Congratulations! Now you can make your own Aina shirt!!!

    NOTES:

-The more loose or adjusted fit will depend on the fit of the raglan shirt/dress pattern you

    choose.

    - Your pattern pieces may look different from mine depending on the pattern you use, too.

Remember my pattern pieces are for a shirt and not a dress. If youre making a dress,

    yours should be longer.

Stay tuned, a tutorial of the assembly of the shirt is coming in a few days!
