St. Martha Church
Corpus Christi
Last week Cragly took one small paw for a puppy, and one giant pounce for dog-kind; Cragly began to visit rehab
and nursing homes. At one local center Cragly gave hello kisses and eager wags to the folks before politely laying down
by my right foot while I said mass for the residents (I think she fell asleep. . .Catholics never do that at mass do they?)
While the visit warmed the hearts of many of my seniors –what struck me most was the impact that little Cragly had
upon the staff. I can say nearly all the professionals walking, wandering, or working at the center just lit up when they
had the opportunity to meet little Cragly and pet a new puppy. Folks who had been dragging their feet through a gray
hum-drum day of being yelled at, complained about, spit upon or taken for granted, suddenly lit right up and were
alive, smiling, and joyful as they pet my little puppy.
Today’s Gospel says, “Jesus spoke to the crowds about the kingdom of God, and he healed those who needed to be
cured.” He did these two things with his body and blood, holding himself out there – both in an extended hand in heal-
ing, or an extended hand from the cross. Cragly allowed other people to contact her furry black body and blood, to
share stories, to smile, to remember the joy and beauty of God’s creation. I’d like to think this surprise – especially for
the staff- is somehow like coming to communion on Sunday.
While we are going thru a normal week, when we come here we suddenly find ourselves in the physical sacramental
presence of someone who loves you completely – who wants nothing more than a little bit of your time, someone who
welcomes hands held out in love.
In Christ,
(Work sure makes Cragly thirsty)

MUSIC NOTES from Lou’s Desk 732-295-3630 Ext 36
Let Freedom Ring
The words, “Let Freedom Ring,” are reflected in the beautiful hymn, “America” aka “My Country tis of Thee.” In addition to our Memorial Day weekend where we remember those who gave their lives for our freedom. We also cele-brate “The Feast of the Body & Blood of Christ,” (Corpus Christi, as it was once known). We also recall our religious freedom, the liberty that we have as Catholics to worship and adore Christ in the Holy Eucharist. As we sing the Eucharistic Hymns in addition to the Patriotic songs, let us continually remember to be grateful for all we have.
A Memorial Day Prayer “Heavenly Father, On this Memorial Day, we pray for those who courageously laid down their lives for the cause of freedom. May the example of their sacrifice inspire in us the selfless love of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Bless the families of our fallen troops, and fill their homes and their lives with your strength and peace. In union with people of goodwill of every nation, embolden us to answer the call to work for peace and justice, and thus, seek an end to violence and conflict around the globe. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen”

Meetings: Sunday 5-7 pm downstairs Happy Memorial Day. Please remember to
take time from barbequing, opening the pool, or whatever you are doing this weekend, to pray for the souls of those veterans that gave their lives for us.
Next Sunday is the Youth Ministry Car Wash. When you arrive for Mass at 7:30, 9:00, 10:30, or 12:00, simply park your car between the kitchen door and the Religious Education entrance, and our youth will wash your car during Mass. You can also bring your car at any time in between and we’ll be happy to wash it while you wait. There will be jars outside for whatever donation you would like to give. For our youth volunteers, there will be donuts in the morning and lunch af-ter. Let’s hope for nice weather!
This is the last week to get your entries in for the St. Martha’s Youth Ministry/Knights of Colum-bus poster contest on substance abuse, which unfortunately is a large problem in our area. There are two categories: “Alcohol Awareness and Abuse” or “Drug Awareness and Abuse.” There are also two age categories: 8-11 and 12-14. Posters should be on 11”x17” or 12”x18” pa-per. Entry forms are available in the vestibule. For your convenience, blank poster paper will also be provided, but entrants can also use their own paper. Entries should be submitted to me at the church office by June 3. Cash prizes will be awarded in each poster category and each age category.
