Free Air Delivery - as available from compressor to drive air tools.

Litres/minute delivered by the compressor x 0.65 (65% efficiency).

This will give Free Air Delivery (FAD).

This can now be related to required air for air tools (each one different).

How do we calculate it?

�An inherent property of compressed air is that it always contains moisture. Much of this moisture can beremoved by using an air filter with a water trap. However, a small amount of water will always reach thetool. Moisture is an air tool's greatest enemy as it can create corrosion which can affect performance or atworst seize the motor. In order to eliminate this threat, three to four drops of air tool oil can be added to theinlet after use and running for a few seconds will prevent corrosion and line the inside surfaces of the airmotor with oil. Use proper air tool oil only, such as Air Turbine oil or Shell Tellus S22. Normal car oils areNOT suitable for use in air tools.

The nett result from the compressor would be sufficient to run the air toolproviding that the use was not continuous.

For continuous use of the air tool the nett result from the compressor

should be at least 20% higher than the tool's FAD requirement i.e. 370l/min.

This would not put unnecessary strain on the compressor motor.

Conversion Factors

Many users install the quick-coupler at the intake of the tool, this is not recommended. Ratheradd a hose whip with the coupling between the whip and air supply or leader hose.

Check air lines and couplings for leaks

Once detected repair immediately

Small leaks reduce performance

Make sure that the total consumption of the air tools used simultaneously is lower than theFree Air Delivery (FAD) of the compressor

The air lines should be kept as short as possible, if a long line is unavoidable make use of a

larger diameter hose

Use 90 psi while running the tool

Higher pressure and unclean air will shorten the tool's life span because of faster wear andmay create a hazardous condition

Drain the air tank daily. Water in the air line will damage the tool

Clean the air inlet filter screen weekly

Use an in-line lubricator with SAE #10 oil
