The inspiration: Wit-nessing a world of star-vation, poverty and

unemployment, the least San-skriti could do was to work to-wards the welfare of people. Andthe credit goes to her alma mater. It was from the school that shelearnt values and started her jour-ney towards lifting others. The action:As the co-founder ofthe organisation, Sarvahitey, San-skriti observed that the COVIDhotspot districts announced bygovernment needed support. Forthe same, they collaborated withSocial Media Matters to provideeffective support to almost 210hotspot districts across Indiathrough the Facebook groups

known as My PinCode. With thesupport of 200 plus volunteergroups, basic sanitary productsand food was provided to theones in need. Nearly 5000 plusfood packets and ration were dis-tributed, which directly helpedmore than 2500 plus familiesacross India. Apart from this,Sanskriti and the organisation, helped 100 migrant workers to go

back to their homes, addressed100+ blood donation requests, and the list is long. The hurdle: Every journey hasits own share of challenges. Ini-tially, Sanskriti and the organisa-tion found that it was difficult toaccumulate the required resourcesand funds and that too on a largerscale where they wanted to touchevery city in the country. Yet, they

were able to involve more peopleand gather more funds to keep theproject in full swing.

Sanskriti left the red brickbuilding in the year 2010.She pursued Bachelors andMasters in Law. She iscurrently practicingcorporate law in a publicsector undertaking andholds the position of co-founder for the organisation,Sarvahitey as well as worksfor the project, My PinCode.

The inspiration: Imbib-ing the thought provok-ing lessons and inspiring

values taught to him by his teach-ers at the school, incited in himthe fire to serve his nation and thefellow citizens. The action: While COVIDbrought with itself uncertainties ,Dr Shubhanshu was certain thathe had to save the lives of the pa-tients that were coming to himwith immense faith. He, alongwith other doctors in the hospital, took all the safety measures andfollowed the government guide-

lines for the treatment of theCOVID positive patients. Work-ing hard day and night and notthinking about his family and life,Dr Shubhanshu made sure thatthe patients got proper treatment

with regular checkups at periodicintervals of time. The hurdle: With the announce-ment of vaccine and drug testingon the way, Dr Shubhanshu wascertain that the spread of the dis-ease could be controlled. How-ever, one issue which was ofconcern was that these testingsand trials are a lengthy processand as a result the number of pa-tients kept increasing with eachpassing day.

The inspiration: MUNs.This one word instilledin Siddharth the passion

to do something for his countryand the society. His participationin innumerable MUNs in schooltime made him realise the powerof youth in shaping the world. His confidence was at par whenhe donned the position of SecGen in MUNs and transformedinto a true potential being. The action: In trying times likethese, Siddharth with a will tohelp people, joined hands withthe MyPincode, an organisationbased on Facebook groups thatspreads across 210 districts ofIndia identified as hotspots by theMinistry of Home Affairs. On the

job, he ensured hyper local, veri-fiable information at the national, state and local level because thebiggest menace he felt was thelack of information and aware-ness among the people. Siddharthalong with a team of 25 internsalso facilitated the return of themigrants to their hometowns. The hurdle: Despite having ad-

equate resources and contacts re-quired, it was a very difficult taskto be able to help the migrants. They were not tested for COVID,had trust issues and weren’t evencomfortable sharing their quin-tessential details. Some of themwere denied tests due to jurisdic-tional issues and even spent adreadful number of hours trying

to find a shelter for the night. Itwas after almost four days ofstrenuous struggle that they werefinally able to send the migrantsback home.

Crusade for change……Is What Our Warrior, Siddharth Kapoor Counts On

Saying goodbye to his almamater in 2016, Siddharthpursued Law from AmityLaw School. He is currentlyworking on the projectcalled MyPincode, which is inassociation with Sarvahitey.

The inspiration: Himadr-ish owes his social andintellectual growth to

Amity. Since Nursery, he wasprovided with an environmentwhich was a bedrock to over-come obstacles that came hisway. What inspired him the mostwas his interaction with PMNarendra Modi, that urged him tocome forward and create a plat-form (Confederation of YoungLeaders) where the youth wasunder one consortium. The action: Ever since the lock-down was imposed, he noticedthat people from lower strata of

the society faced several chal-lenges even for basic day to dayneeds. To help these people, Hi-madrish and other young leadersfrom his organisation came to-gether to distribute food and per-

sonal protective equipments andensured that people around themcan manage to get essential items. The hurdle: To reach out to morepeople in need, one surely needsmore hands. This was the biggestchallenge that Himadrish faced asthere were so many people whodidn’t want to take charge andhelp in the distribution of food.Even after finding people to vol-unteer, many of them were moreinto seeking job rather than creat-ing one for those around.

Teachers: we see themrunning around on theirtoes to ensure that their

students get access to the bestform of education possible. Ear-lier, it was in school; however, now we see the same happening, only difference that now a screencomes between us. We see ourteachers doing their best to helpus even in the wake of such anunprecedented lockdown. Find-ing ways to keep our studiesafloat, it was obviously not goingto be a piece of cake for anyone.Learning in a lockdown has itsown pros and cons. The goodthings are that we all are in thesafety of our home and getting tolearn in a new and different wayand also learning to operate withtechnology. But the cons are a lotto list- not getting the usualschool experience- the gossiping, the school pranks, the chatting inthe class room using chits, friends, the class room study, practical knowledge and ofcourse our wonderful teachers. This crisis has also given us anopportunity to usher in a new eraof learning that is based on thefundamental principles of school-ing — care, concern, and com-passion towards other people. At first, I found this lockdown asthe best days of my life, enjoyingyummy food, watching Netflix

and doing whatever we feel likeas there was no homework butlater I realised that it is not whatI thought it was.Soon enough our online classesstarted. This was the first time inmy life when I was missingschool. I would have neverthought in a gazillion years that

such a situation would occur. Iwould appreciate the effort of ourteachers who are working theirfingers to their bones just to helpus to cope up with the studieseven through these tough times.I have now realised that life is aconundrum of esoteric, you havetwist and turns but the way you

take them defines who you are. This pandemic has also taught usa correct way to live and how atiny, invisible virus could createsuch havoc. In a way, this pandemic was ablessing in disguise. I am nowgetting more time to spend withmy parents and enjoy at home byplaying old games that my par-ents used to play. I also made thislockdown an opportunity to learnunder the guidance of my parentsand teachers. While I focused onmy academics, I also started tobuild an interest for gardening, baking and music. I learned howto play the Guitar and alsolearned to bake cakes and I bakedone for my mom’s birthday too.Fortunately, many of us are en-joying this lockdown in someway or the other but for migrantworkers it is a nightmare. Theyhardly get a meal in a day. So asa responsible citizen I donatedmoney from by piggy bank tohelp them get food. I feel thislockdown truly made me a betterhuman being. I strongly believethat there is always light at theend of the tunnel and we shall seeit soon. So, even though I bow down infront of my teachers and parents, for having imparted so many in-valuable values and lessons mywhole life, I thank the greatestteacher of the year- this pan-demic, for enlightening us inways never imagined.G T
